Batata Chana wada is a delicious snack made of potatoes and chana dal! A definite hit with everyone :)
Ingredients:
Red chilli powder
Cumin seeds
Asafoetida
Amchur Powder
Ova (Carom Seeds)
Ginger
Garlic
Poha powder
Soaked Chana dal
Boiled potatoes
Onions
Green chilies
Coriander leaves
Salt
Method :
1. Set aside 1 tbsp soaked chana and add the rest to a grinder. Add 1/2 tbsp cumin seeds and 1 green chilli and grind coarsely.
2. Peel 4 small sized boiled potatoes
3. To a deep pan add 1and 1/2 tbsp oil, add 1 thinly chopped onion and saute. Grate 1/2 inch ginger and 6-7 garlic cloves. Add 1/2 tbsp carom seeds (Chana Dal is often difficult to digest, adding carom seeds makes easier on the stomach! ). Add 1/4 tbsp asafoetida
4. Once the onions turn pink add the chana dal. Add 1/4tbsp salt and mix well.
5. Turn the flame off and cover the mix
6. Roughly mash the boiled potatoes, to the potatoes add thinly chopped green chillies, 1 tbsp red chilli powder, 2 tbsp powdered poha, 1/2 tbsp amchur powder, 1/4 tbsp salt, thinly chopped coriander leaves and the 2tbsp chana dal that had been set aside.
7. Add the cooked chana dal mix to the potatoes and mix well
8. Shape the mix on the palm of your hands in small flat and round pieces (when mashing potatoes keep the mash chunky, that adds texture to the dish! ).
9. Add 1/2-2 small bowls of oil to a deep pan.
10. Once the oil heats add the pieces and cook on both sides!
