This game gave me a flashback to when I was 14. I was at the skatepark playing an adult and in the game I landed my first 360 flip. Then committed to getting them on lock that summer. A game of skate can encourage you to expand your comfort zone on newer tricks and since it's a game you might be more willing to commit rather than throw it away.

I love bergers style. So proper. Haven’t seen him skate flat too much but I can already tell his bag is deep. Can’t wait for his next game

Sunny’s got that style we all started with as kids (not in a bad way). Like the days when we were hungry to prove we could land the next hardest trick, not caring if it looked good. We just wanted to say we landed it, and flex on our friends. Then with age, we go from completionism, to perfectionism, and then finally expression through style.

Matt Berger story Matt Berger taught me 3 flips when I was a teenager. I have autism so whenever I wanted to learn a new trick I’d hyper focus only trying that trick for days, weeks, even months some times. I always (and still) love 360 flips and I remember being at the Kamloops park trying them over and over. Being autistic, it was super difficult for my brain to understand I was doing something wrong so I would try the same thing over and over and never make any progress until someone gave me a tip. I was doing the classic “only landing on it with the back foot while basically planting the front foot on the ground while it spun”. Matt was the first person to tell me to try planting my back foot on the ground instead and landing with my front foot and once I figure that out, try to stop planting my back foot and I should be able to get it because I flipped it perfect every time (probably due to trying it for months lol). It only took me a few more tries to figure out how to catch it with my front foot and then land my first tre flip. I remember trying to hide my excitement but when I looked over and saw him giving me props, I don’t think I’ve ever felt so accomplished even to this day. I remember a couple years later I 3 flipped a 9 stair and every time I went to the Kamloops park, I had a pocket in my backpack with the footage that I wanted to show him and thank him for teaching me how to do my favourite trick, but I think that was around the time his skating career took off so I never got the chance to see him again. At 19 I had a serious ankle injury and was rushed to the hospital, but my bag was left at the skate spot and ended up stolen with the footage. I haven’t been able to skate since. I can barely push now without my ankle seizing up. I’ll always be grateful for how kind he was to the autistic kid at the skatepark and how much his approval meant to me. He turned my love of skateboarding into a life long love. Truly an incredible human.

I get the refs wanting to be strict but tictac/sloppy is fine! They should only call toe/heel drags and when someone doesn't pop on defense.

Rules Question: there is nothing in the rules as they’re written about repeating tricks and I know in previous long battles tricks have been repeated, is there a mechanism in place to stop a skater from learning a weird, abstract, difficult trick and then repeating it five times for a win?

Sunny improved A LOT since BATB12, he’s prolly also 6in taller since then too lol. Crazy how close he got to nollie hardflip & switch hardflip for never trying them(let’s be real he’s probably tried at least a few times but from the look of shock on his own face he hasn’t practiced them much)
