Imagine my surprise as an 18 year old student at Manchester University in 1992 walking into Manchester art museum and seeing the cover of this album occupying a full wall of a room in the gallery! I used to go back with a Walkman and sit and listen whilst looking at the painting
@@JDAMorley That's total Horns Up! I'm assuming it was just the painting without the logo and album title, of course? I imagine that memory floods you with joy! Hail Quorthon 🤘💀🤘
@@mikaelhanssin_MN it's a painting called "funeral of a viking" by Victorian artist Frank Dicksee in 1893, apparently inspired by the poem Beowulf. I don't think the art gallery curators know that Quorthon chose this for the cover of one of his albums, perhaps we should petition for the album to be played in the room!
In 1990 when i first heard this, the older dudes who gave it to me claimed it was Bathory turning more commercial. Never understood why fans want from the artists to produce whatever we the fans want, and not what they, the artists want. I consider this album another masterpiece by Quorthon. And Home of once brave is one of the most epic pieces of music ever written. Simple in a sense, but majestic! Thank you Quorthon and Quorthon's Dad.
I found this album after being told to give this band a listen. It wasn't specified that I should pick this album but lucky me. It's one of the best albums I've ever heard and I found it in a bargain bin at a music store, back when those were common around 20ish years ago. You can find amazing things if you look for them.
This is my favorite Bathory album. A masterpiece. I listen from the beginning to the end without skipping a single song. It's magical. Quorthon is a legend!
The first 5 albums are listenable, it is not at the level of black sabbath, motorhead, megadeth, V8, in my ranking but it is fighting for 5th place with as i lay dying and others bands (overkill, Hermetica, Iron Maiden, Satan, Underoath, Death, Almafuerte, Led Zeppeling, Deep Purple, The Cure, Joy Division, New Order, etc)
I remember when you had to show a ID to be 18 to buy some of the Records because of the Cover Art... Now you see Life War Carnage on Stream... WaW.... 🤯
Velice krásné vikingské album, jak je vidět a slyšet bathory se nikdy nebál experimentovat a vždy to bylo skvělé! Pro mě mister Quorthon vždy nejlepší!😉
Where some see excessive theme-length, one should deem the very nature of ritual. I for one know that, for instance, ''Hammerheart'' is probably Bathory's most popular work amongst the Neo/dark Folk clique (or at least was). It's a monument of Pagan pride, an unmistakable declaration of intents, and his actual second skin. He was quite a character - remember the 1990 promotion tour that brought Quorthon here in Portugal - there's footage of it with teenage Langsuyar and Belathauzer interviewing their master, and that's Bathistory !
Bathory to jeden z najbardziej znaczących zespołów w muzyce black metalowej i viking metalowej, mający jednocześnie największy wpływ na kierunki rozwoju tych dwóch odmian metalu]. Wraz z wydaniem albumu Blood Fire Death a następnie Hammerheart styl grupy ewoluował w kierunku łagodniejszej muzyki, charakteryzującej się wolnymi, epickimi utworami z towarzyszeniem chórów. W warstwie lirycznej, treści satanistyczne ustąpiły miejsca tematyce nordyckiej mitologii. W tej stylistyce zespół wydał jeszcze albumy Twilight of the Gods, Blood on Ice oraz Nordland I i Nordland II. W międzyczasie powstały także albumy Requiem, Octagon i Destroyer of Worlds które nawiązywały muzycznie do thrash metalu lat osiemdziesiątych, ale spotkały się one z nieprzychylnymi opiniami krytyków. The layering and effects draw me into another world, epic in scope, where the Norse gods of metal reign supreme. Love the loud exhale at 3:12. Quorthon at his genius best.
Big fan of his earlier work this was a departure for me back 84 everything had to be fast and evil been fortunate to have aged to really enjoy Qurthons other styles
Satisfied and proud to remember in an underground store back in 90s, Twilight of the Gods and Hammerheart in vinyl and Bathory´s debut in cd. Bought the debut and taperecorded Hammerheart
i remember the first time i did mushroom, was on a lake in the woods with my friends, had a sony discman hooked up to some portable speakers, the peak hit just as the drums kicked in, what a wonderful journey
I've always been death-doom thrasher and never liked any power-epic, dickinsonic stuff of this kind, but this and Twilight totally blew my mind me when I was a kid! I used to play the two tapes all the time for several weeks, I couldn't even distinguish which song comes from which. The sound is so rough and unclean, guitars, vocals, solos... Outrageous! A classic!
