Absolute masterpiece this. I was a teenage thrasher and always bought the "Speed Kills" compilation LP's. One of them had "For all those who died" on it and that track immediately stood out as something different. Much darker than anything else on the record
What an amazing album. The beginning of viking metal, and it still stands as one of the best albums of the genre. Thomas Börje Forsberg was an absolute visionary. His legacy will live on! RIP Quorthon
1. "Odens Ride Over Nordland" 2. "A Fine Day to Die" 3. "The Golden Walls of Heaven" 4. "Pace 'Till Death" 5. "Holocaust" Side two 6. "For All Those Who Died" 7. "Dies Irae" 8. "Blood Fire Death" 9. "Outro"
When I listened to this album for the first time, my hair stood up on my head and I got goose bumps. I love BATHORY. They created a new style in metal music. AVE BATHORY.
Absolutely this album is a master piece, equal to Under the sing of the black mark too. Quorthon was a genius, pioneer of black and viking metal. R.I.P.
Someone said listening to this album was like a great trip and i agree. It's like you've been thrust into one almighty battle up in the heavens of Valhalla with Odin, with lightning and thunder crashing through the dark clouds until you reach the climatic finale, Blood Fire Death. Epic
Listening to this in the car , a stunner of an album. A nice move from the typical black metal satanic inspired lyrical to explore Viking mythological themes .
Well to be fair, this came before most of that kinda black metal anyhow. Most of the popular Satanic oriented black metal bands you think of when someone says Black Metal came out '91 or so and later. This album came out 1988
@@TheRyanH. You're talking to someone who was 20 in 91. In the 80s I was listening to Mayhem, Frost , venom and Bathory -. The first Batbory album I bought was 'The return' . So to me the 90s bands are 'second wave' . At the time, Manowar did try Viking stuff, but they were cheesy and comic book style .
@@andyventures6574 Manowar was one the the biggest inspirations for the full on Viking period that came after this. Try Edge of Sanity doing a version of "Blood of My Enemies" or the actual original and that song could have matched unto "Hammerheart" or "Twilight of the Gods" style flawlessly
@@alphaomega5205 They were still cheesy as as a whole shop full of nothing but brie though. And never had that extreme edge that the bands that followed did . Plus they were as cheesy as a shop full of Gouda. Did I mention that?
@@andyventures6574 Well if you dont like cheese you are enjoying the wrong type if music. Its as much about spicy chillies as it about cheese. Personally euro-style "poodle" power metal (Finland, Sweden, a few others) is more rancid (of course there's dozen of exceptions like the classics Helloween, Running Wild, etc) You see there is good cheese and there is bad cheese. At their most epic Manowar is Gouda at their most biker-crass its a Camembert. I can even draw some parallels between say Manowar and early Virgin Steele or others who tried go for the epic. You need to chill and let the cheese flow, defo anninfluential band for epic metal. Quorthon took the Gouda bits off songs like their debut title track.
I first time hear this brilliant!!!!! I oldscoll heavy music fan,but never hear this band. And me 54 years old. I SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!! TRUE ORGASMIC,MAGIC MUSICIANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
54 myself. i was on it in since day one the early 80's. But it's never too late. It speaks of our generation that were alive and our hearts and minds were open to the eternal.
Immortal music, this is as strong anno 2024 as it was back in 1988, and it will still stand alone in 3050. Nobody, not even Quorthon himself ever topped this, nor will anyone ever be able to. What power, utterly raw but beautiful, what mastership. What strong message.... All of BATHORY's albums are more than worth listening, but this one is the absolute pinnacle. ALL HAIL BATHORY/QUORTHON, you and your music will always be completely unique and REAL in this fake reality!!!! BATHORY FOREVER!!!
Orgy of silence Conspiracy of peace Only the sound Of the cold northern breeze Twinsun sink fading Behind the black lake Asleep is the mountains Yet the night is awake Strange is the night Now black stars rise And many moons circle Through silent the night Along the black mountainside scattered By the campfires awaiting the dawn Two times a hundred men in battles Tried by the steel in the arrow, axe and the sword By battle worn hunger torn awaitening For the sun to break through the cold haze And for the banners of Ebal to appear On the hill in the sun's first warm rays The elder among the men looked deep into The fire and spoke loud with pride Tomorrow is a fine day to die Now the morning advance from far east Now the sun breaks through dustclouds and haze Now a forest of spears appears on the hill And steel shines bright in the sun's first rays Die Die Die Die
The band that turned me from the average thrasher into a fan of black metal and it has been my favorite genre of music for years now along with gothic rock and doom metal, hail bathory and thank you Quorthon for the awesome music!this one and under the sign of the black mark are my favorite bathory albums
Quorthon's voice always reminds me of Tom Angelripper from Sodom and Mille Petrozza from Kreator both bands had early Black Metal Influenced albums before Thrash Metal Albums. but Really they're great Black and Thrash inspired bands back in 80s. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for sharing the individual songs and the full album. It means a lot listening them from the official channel and those songs will be here for eternity for all metalwarriors to discover them in the future...
Cool,I'm follow you in you channel,me big fans of Rotting, thou art, Varathron, Necromantia all Greeks metal bands don't expect see you here greetings from Detroit of a Mexican metal brother
well actually slayer was before bathory, show no mercy was released in 1983 and bathory self tilted album was realesed in 1984, but yeah, i understand why you mean, you see in the bathory first record what you will see in hell awaits or even seven churches later, and in this record you see the first seeds of the nordic paganism oriented black metal that will appear a little after the secon wave with bands like burzum
Thank you for posting this, had this on tape a looong time ago, it was one of my escapes as school kid and it helped me deal with the Pagan, and German, side of my family.
I fucking love this album. I dont care if the golden walls of heaven sounds like hell awaits it's still one of my favorite songs lyrically and sound wise
