Here's what you do. I just did this the other day and it was incredible. Take a mason jar or a good-sized bowl and fill it with about 10-12 paper towels. Soak the paper towels with bleach and then line them end to end around the caulking of the tub and kind of push them into the grooves. I let mine set for about 45 minutes. I removed them and all of the gunk was gone. I then scrubbed it with an old toothbrush. If you spray it on, it dries. When you put the paper towels on, they stay wet and kill it.

I've seen a woman do this using reinforced salon coils, bc they're cotton held together by plastic, which means you can stand them up straight if you need to get mold that's running up vertically. Works like magic.

Vinegar works well at killing the mold as it is acidic. If you use vinegar on a daily basis the mold will die. Then you can use bleach to lighten the stains the mold has created. After that you can use vinegar twice a week and the mold should not return.

So like, just spray vinegar on the caulking after showering?

using a 50/50 bleach/water mix - it removed all of the mold on the caulking in about ten minutes - thank you for the advice.

our shower was super bad.. i did this method and it didn't work very well.. so i followed one of the comments here where you soak a bunch of paper towels with full bleach then let it sit for 45mins and it WORKED.. and I MEAN really worked.. amazing. my only complaint is that the smell was strong and probably NOT good for you and the paper towels were very warm to the touch, (chemical breakdown? not sure).. but it worked..
@davyl1414
@davyl1414 9 лет назад
another thing.. i used some bleach i had on hand.. i hardly ever use bleach.. it wasn't working with the paper towel method and my husband made a comment how it didn't smell very bleachy.. turns out bleach has a REALLY short shelf life.. I went and bought new bleach and it worked like a charm.. so if you are using full bleach and it isn't working maybe your bleach has gone bad.

Bleach breaks down the caulking, creating gaps for future mold to build behind the caulking . Best to use Lysol spray or vinegar. Vinegar is the least harmful to the caulking and the good part is that after vinegar dries the smell goes with it. Same for plastic shower curtains. Throw them in the washer with vinegar and it will come out mold free and it also works against hard water stains. Almost forgot. If you have mold building in gaps, its, best to scrap it all away, scrub the area with bleach and then scrub the tub and tile area clean till its smooth to the touch and then wipe with water and let it dry for a day or use a blow dryer to dry. Then apply the new caulking. If you don't do those steps the caulking will not adhere correctly and pockets will be created for water to get trapped and build mold under your caulking. Also please let it dry for at least 24 hours before using. I learned this after a lot of trial and error and decided to watch some home repair videos. I thought the time and all the work was ridiculous but ever since I did it, I only have to slightly wipe down the caulking with vinegar when I see some pink and I am not getting any mold behind the caulking and it has been that way for months.

People don't have to take the advice. They are more than welcome to let the bleach eat the caulking away. Making my own video won't correct the misinformation if people just stop at the bad advice.

"Robertmon3" why dont you just go shut the fuck up? Moron. If you don't like it then be quiet and move on. Bleach isn't a good long term solution for mold. It's temporary at best.

I can confirm Ishikami is right. I've tried the bleach method and ended up having to scrape it all off and re-apply caulking.

How has no one said anything about the mold that is INSIDE the caulk. Not on top not behind but literally inside of it. I see the best method is soaking but is that gonna get the stuff INSIDE? Doubtful. Who has a chemical that penetrates and kills what’s grown inside? Or is it just permanent stains making the caulking bad and needs to be replaced? Trying to avoid replacing every 3-6 months

I've read and also heard from people who work in mold remediation that bleach does not work to kill mold. Tea tree oil is apparently a good alternative that is supposed to kill many types of mold.
@gift1843
@gift1843 2 года назад
I wish more ppl realized this. Bleach just makes the mold retreat into the wall and grout. The water left from the bleach residue allows the mold to breed on it and eventually it just gets worse. Plus the mold stays inside your walls, grout etc after it has retreated which is inhaled during a shower. You need to buy a Fungicide(not the type used for lawncare) from a cleaning supply center.

For me nothing worked i tried for 2 hours with Ajax mould remover didn't work then i looked and youtube found a half bleach half water Didn't work And the i saw this and so i used straight bleach and sprayed it all over the shower to see if it would get the mould of the tiles which i was trying to do originally and after about 5 minutes it worked hopes this helps guys but when you spray the shower with it like spray it everywhere get away from it as fast as you can because it hurts your throat and makes you cough so just wait and when the 5 minutes is done it shouldn't be as bad the bleach smell and there we go

I use Zep Mold Stain & Mildew Stain Remover for getting mildew out of the tile grout, but it doesn't work for the caulking. I'll try the bleach and toilet paper soaking thing for the caulking.
@Jac70
@Jac70 11 лет назад
Once the caulking has gone black nothing will get it white again - the only way to restore is to remove and replace the sealant. Doing what is suggested in the video will help to stop the sealant turning black in the first place though.

BIG SECRET THAT WE ARE NOT BEING TOLD: Keep all of the drain openings of all the sinks and bathtubs properly covered when they are not being used ( with something that floats on water to allow the drain to always work ) and discover a new you to become much healthier and stronger. Also cover the drain opening overflow somehow. Please help spread this important message.

Bleach?
@beejay2431
@beejay2431 11 лет назад
what does it matter, who's mold it is? Mold is mold, and bleach will NOT remove it. Besides, straight bleach was never meant to be used, it's quite dangerous. Therefore a half water half bleach mixture is the recommended safe solution, even though it's not going to remove the mold, as proven by your video.
