I appreciate you showing the basics that you take for granted. We don't know the small tricks of prep that are necessary for a quality installation. Thanks. On mine I didn't know so I used a small pad sander to slightly rough the surface up for better mechanical bonding. Lot of porcelain dust.
He's good basically has to be clean, need a shop vac to get the old caulking, scrapers, not easy everyone has different techniques. Instead of remodeling the entire bathroom can do this to give ur bathroom a few more years......he definitely knows what he is doing
I’ve tried this before on a white tub and it left a lighter “stain” mark wherever the cleaner touched. Do you have any solution for removing these marks?
@@pambrunner5716 there's a product called CLR that gets rid of calcium deposits (white film), lime and rust. There are also other rust remover products.
I got a couple drops on my forearm while cleaning the toilet. I didn't drop everything to wash it off, finished the job and then washed. Got a minor acid burn, and the pain would not go away. The first aid instructions were to rinse in cold water for 20 minutes. I filled a bucket and soaked it instead. I was cringing all the way through this.
@@lunamaeve6018 LOL some people just don't have taste for color harmony. My mom asked for a lilac walls and she got bright yellow instead, worse thing is the contractor lied about her asking for yellow walls in the living room. That's like 5 years ago, she still got the yellow walls and she says she got used to it..poor mommy
I did this and holy crap the strong chemical smell when I went back in after the 10 min, the smell was horrific! I thought my nose hairs singed off! On the bright side my tub never looked cleaner lol
@@sleeks9939 very bad! Im not sensitive to smells at all but it was burning my eyes and it hurt to breathe. My mom lives with me and she has damaged lungs and I had to open all the windows and put fans in the bathroom
@@savisavvy_ wow! That sounds pretty horrible. I just picked up some of these products. I hope you and you’re mom is okay. I could just imagine must of been heavy on the chest with breathing with those kinds of smells. 😬
Yes we recommend sanding the tub smooth to the touch, even if its pretty smooth we recommend ruffing it up with 400 grit. Then give it the deep clean and etch the surface with the Lysol power or any toilet bowl cleaner that has hydrochloric acid in it. Then you'll want to tape your drain up.
yes you ca, just make use the tub doesn't have a flex meaning when you step down or push on the walls and they move that is a flex that would need to be fixed with expanding foam first.
I would recommend sanding it smooth then clean it with lysol power or any toilet bowl cleaner that has hydrocleric acid in it then you will be fine to coat with ekopel. If you wanted to take extra pre cautions you could use something over the rust to treat it and then use our primer.
My wife did rustoleum tub and tile paint and did our tub. It has peeled twice now snd will need to be 100% stripped for the second time. I don’t think she cleaned it well enough but I can’t be a sure. Do you think I need to buff off the polish on the tub or sand it first for the paint to stick better?
I would recommend peeling up what you can of the old finish. Then sand the rest smooth with 400 grit sandpaper. Then give the tub a deep clean with Lysol Power or a toilet bowl cleaner with hydro cleric acid in it. Then dry with a lint free cloth. Then you will be ready for your ekopel application. It's not needed but if you want an extra good stick you could use our primer. It gives Ekopel a better stick but ekopel sticks great on it's own.
Nice easy to follow directions, good video. I would like to mention as a suggestion that when editing videos you might equalize the sounds out a little more. The music was a nice addition but it was way louder than the guy talking in the video, I had to keep turning it down when the music would hit because I had it all the way up to hear the guy explain the process.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions I used "Bathworks" for the first tub I refinished, it went on really nice and no excess to scoop out as it is more of a paint on finish, but the smell was horrid. How is the odor with this product?
The Mr. Clean Magic erasers work really well to clean the non-slip part at the bottom of the tub. Also, would you remove the caulk between the tub and the tiles if you are just re-glazing the tub, and then once the glaze is dry, re-caulk?
Yes, you will want to remove that caulk as ekopel will not adhere over caulk. When fully dry and harden so about 36-48 hour then can go back in and re-caulk that area.
Even if the tub is pretty smooth we recommend a quick rough up with 400 grit. Then always a deep clean and etching with Lysol Power or any toilet bowl cleaner with hydrochloric acid in it.
My dummy husband squirted the Lysol Power on the tub and just let it sit there for I don’t know how long. Well, when he washed it off it left the marks that ran down the tub. 😡
Just wash it again to be sure you get any deep dried residue off. The coating will be fine to go over it if there are blue streaks or anything like that from the acid sitting on there.
Can the toliet bowl cleaner remove the stains that was left from leaving the toliet bowl cleaner on too long. My daughter left the toile now cleaner into long.
Normally you would wash an uncontested tub with Lysol power to remove soap scum and etch the surface before coating with Ekopel. If there is a previous coating it is best to use a paint stripper and remove this coating first or at the minimum sand down completely smooth. Then follow our Ekopel refinishing videos.
I bought my home and went to take a bath for the first time and there was white paint peeling off as I soaked in the tub. This was a complete shock. There is still peeling paint in the tub, how do I make my bath tub useable again?
Did you sand the tub down before using the lysol power toilet cleaner? Was it bone dry before you started putting down the epoxy? Did you wipe it down with alcohol to get any dust out before putting down epoxy? To fix it, you'll have to scrape out anything loose and then do the prep again- sand, clean, dry
Can you point us to the video where you pour the material? I have been looking for a demonstration of the tub+surround procedure, but I have not found the video yet.
Thank you for these videos. They're very helpful. Do you have a recommendation for a cleaner to use on surfaces that will be re-grouted or otherwise not re-finished? Are there any (types of) cleaners to avoid in order to prevent damage to the Ekopel after refinishing?
@@RefinishedBathSolutions I can agree a bathmat or soap scum. Do you have an email. I want to send a picture of my current tub. Maybe you can tell me if it is a refinished tub? Thanks
It's hard to tell from the video but it looks like someone had painted the tile walls in the past , do you need to remove the paint first? Also I have seen others use a heat gun/ blow dryer to level out the product and remove bubbles do you also use one?
Yes remove the caulking with other prep work and refinished. After you've refinished and it's dried for 24-36 hours then you can go back in and re caulk.
@@RefinishedBathSolutions thanks! I just picked up a can of Epokel. To use on my newly renovated subway tile bathroom. I’m a little nervous about taping the valve and drain hole during this process but I guess if any material gets on the surface I can chip it off.
and a mask. don't breathe in hydrochloric acid fumes. open a window if ya have one. source : copd from years of working with corrosive cleaning products
Next time do the video without the backup music. It's really annoying when you turn it up. It's loud and it's annoying. We just want to hear you talk. We don't need all that other stuff. No likes
If you want to completely remove all the old surface you can use citri striper. Or can peel up any loose pieces then sand smooth use car bondo to level areas out sand smooth and then use ekopel.
