Thanks so much for this video. You saved me from making a couple huge mistakes. I was having trouble installing one of these and came across your video and suddenly everything made sense and fortunately I hadn’t glued anything yet. Great video!
I was Blessed enough to be able to get Bubba to install my shower, of course I waited in line ,but Dude, this guy knows his stuff!! Been thru hacks and getting ripped off enough to know waiting for someone who is experienced and honest is PRICELESS!!! This shower is nice, but I opted for ceramic tile, and Bubba rocked it out! Nice video, glad you got to spend some quality down time with Mr.Jackson! You Rock sir!!
You would have to see how it sets on there. It’s hard to say I would actually have to buy the product and place it on there and if not, return it to the store.
@@eddyrampersaud6458 you're welcome yes instructions can be very confusing at times because they're written by college educated people and mostly read by blue-collar people like me that don't understand college written instructions lol maybe that's not the case for you but it is for me
I just bought this. I completely ripped out the old shower and it looked good with no moisture damage. My question is this: can you just completely cover the studs with osb on all 3 sides then add your walls?
EXCELLENT VIDEO; American Standard should contact you and create a new Installation manual with all the details you mentioned in this video. This is good faith and outstanding mentorship. We really need more in the cyber world! You saved me for a couple of booboos!
@@shawnmccune Glad you enjoy it. Take time to have fun. Yes they’re putting all the work on the installer with the prices of the products aren’t coming down.
The one by four is three-quarter inch of course and the OSB I believe was 7/16 I don’t believe there was anything that was 7/8 of an inch. I think for the OSB board if you’re right around a half inch you’ll be fine
just found your video on the shower and tub after two weeks reading and re reading the so called instructions . was planning to just to go ahead and tile . your video was so helpful I am a builder but them rubber strips had me scratching my head. instructions was a nightmare . thank you for saving my sanity .
I think the people that write the instructions or overeducated they need to have people like me right instructions I can do a much better job with less education
@@781coolmind I guess that would depend on what you're comparing it to your budget matters? actually it's not a bad shower easily ask last somebody 20 years with no problems or hiccups under normal use
Just walls around the tub, no shower pan. I have the carpenter experience you need since only skills you need to install this over ridiculous price junk 😅. I have it installed now. I think I under bidding them, tho. I only changed 600.
I so regret not just going with Tile. Wife wanted a surround. This seemed to be the only surround that would fit my 1996 American Standard bath tub. Soooooo Glad you posted this EXCELLENT Vidio ! also the comments section about the “Glue”. After reading the comments I took back the 8 Tubes of construction glue and bought the Lepage PL 700Tub and Surround Adhesive. I hindsite I should have replaced the existing tub and purchased a nice Fiberglass Surround.
1 x 4 stands vertically exactly where your shower door would screw to the wall. Dry fit the end panel and you can mark on the wall and floor(base). exactly where it falls use a level it should be level up and down
Im at the door install and my door hits at bottom and 3/4 gap at top. Im a tad out of level on the top rail but I can’t get these things to line up, wall says level, glass says it’s level…. Any advice sir?
Good video, I'm in the process of installing the neo-angle version of this and the instructions are terrible! So far, the hardest part has been figuring out what the framing in the back should be. I wish I'd have just forked over a couple hundred more bucks and gotten a direct-to-stud surround. You're right about the manufacturer putting the extra work onto the installer. After you factor in time and extra materials this surround doesn't seem to be nearly as good of a deal as it appeared from the onset.
Not sure I haven’t heard nothing about that. I can’t understand how the door would sag unless maybe it was improperly installed. I mean it’s not a hinge door it’s on rollers. How does a rolling door sag? would need more information to draw conclusion.
The door rolling door does have some adjustments on it but if not, tighten down properly could loosen up it’s kind of a tricky thing Glass doors rubber plastic you don’t wanna overtighten, but you don’t wanna under tighten kind of like a toilet
What adhesive did you use. I just went through this and the adhesive failed. Did not stick to the panel at all one side and barely on the other. I used loctite pl 3x. Should I use pl 550?
The ends are screwed to hold it in place so I don’t know if the glue held or not because I don’t think the screws would let it come off anyways. And with the connector strips the back panel snaps in place also so I don’t know how important the glue truly is. We use whatever glue was recommended in the instructions I believe it was Loctite. I don’t have the greatest memory. But that looks like the Loctite in Jackson’s hand, gluing the back wall.
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers the instructions just said adhesive and I just grabbed some general construction adhesive...should have thought about the surround material.
Definitely the best video of this type of shower unit.. I did have 1/4 space between back and side wall joint.. You indicated to correct , with a shim? not sure if i need to shim the whole OSB panel out by 1/4” , or shim out the corner?
Was thinking about how you said more people are getting away from bathtubs, I find that to be true also, but not me!!! My bathtub will be around for a good long while😉🛁🛁🛁🧼
Well easier to do when you have two bathrooms but if you only have one bathroom it can be a tough decision. I had an 84 year old woman who did not want a bathtub anymore she wanted to shower(NO TRIP HAZARD) but she was going to have a bathtub installed for resale value she thought. So after she was gone so her kids wouldn’t have to take a hit. Her children told her mom you get your shower don’t worry about us. Good kids Good common sense. And love for their mother
Hey Bubba, I'm currently installing this shower myself and the directions are horrible. My question is do you put osb behind the shower faucet side wall as well.
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers ok great thank you and not yet I got the sidewalls up but of course I'm missing of the connector strip for the back panel so I'm waiting for one to come in the mail
Well, if I understand, you’re trying to tighten up the seam for the back panel and you would put the shims wherever you are putting the screws if you shim it out along the outer edge and then you’re going to fill that in with drywall mud as hot mud .hot mud the perimeter like I show in the video Shims would go at the screw locations
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers at first I thought I needed to shim out the osb and all of the studs , which didn’t work , than I saw that you can flex the corner a little 1/8” to make up the gap and put the shim behind the upper flange . Thanks , your video helped , plus I need to start reading the instructions:-)
Yes, you can shim the panels themselves up to a quarter of an inch possibly 3/8 of an inch as long as you don’t pass the surface of the drywall it will fill-in with the hot mud
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers . That's what I picked up I can dodge a return the 7/16 will work I'll lay a cigar fat bead of PL and be generous with it. Appreciate you getting back to me. The instructions are non-existent on this.
Yes seven sixes will work we will just need to put your glue little heavier Glue the studs under the OSB and then glue again on top of the OSB that will make up the difference
Thank you for posting a comment. It’s always a pleasure to help a brother Like Jackson says we are all we are all brother and sisters because we all come from Adam and Eve.
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers Hi there and thanks for the video! can you tell me how you shimmed the end panels? I know that probably sounds ignorant, but I need to make adjustments to the placement and am not a contractor. Thank you in advance for your kind reply.
@@jerrybrockman3115 I just backed out the screws on the end panels in slip a shim behind and then screwed it back down give me a eighth of an inch off each and to make up for the quarter inch
Hey, Big Bubba, great video. I’m about to out in one of these showers and I appreciate the tips. By the way, the instructions with the base say it is good for up to 300 pounds without a mortar bed underneath. What say you about that?
It’s not a matter of strength to me as far as a weight load I do not want the pan to ever move if it moves that’s gonna be a recipe for disaster so regardless of the weight limit I mortar them in. But I’m an overkill kind of guy I’d like to do things top notch. I have had people call me to their homes in their bathtub is moving because it was not mortared. When I tell them I can pop off the bottom tile pull the tub reinstall the tub put the tile back on and we’re talking like $1500 to do so. They cringe and typically I don’t get the job they just live with the mess
@@Worldwidegiantgrowers Bubba, thank you for the reply and I understand. I also like to do things right the first time. So, what time of mortar did you use and did you put it down and then put the pan on it wet and bed it down?
@@andysparks7381 Yes it really helps to level it also. you want to use a sand type mortar not concrete. Yes you put it down wet and then you level and secure your pan to the wall walk away call it a day. Go fishing and come back the next day and walk in it
@@andysparks7381 I just use some tile mortar that I had left over some Laticrete 4XL I’m sure that will suffice I had a half a bag .it’s free why not use it
Most likely it is stronger cement board would be weaker between studs Also convenience if they make the job more difficult to install cement board is very difficult to stall for most people that would cost them sales. I’m just hypothetically guessing.
@@historygradstu I would not do that. If you’re worried about the OSB getting wet, I would primer with an oil base primer and let it dry and make sure you do the edges but I don’t think there’s no need to do that. I think it will be fine. You should never leak that way.
