Greetings cobbas 🤠 these were the days of true racing legends now in 2023 these next generation will never have My respect and admiration of the names like BROCK 05 MOFFAT HARVEY ect cheers mate from the land down under 🤠🦘🐨🐴👍
@@coalfacechris1336 - well there’s more to it than that . If you get a chance : talk to the mechanics on the Brock cars and you will have a heart attack on what was happening behind the scenes. I could tell you some truths that the extinct brand would not like . Also my uncle worked for CAMS and said before he died “ if ever an investigation happened between Cams & Holden - they would all be in jail”
Absolutely AWESOME!!!! SO MUCH BETTER than the racing nowadays!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor old Brocky, broken axle. These cars were based on road cars with a roll cage and some modifications. Do not write off Allan Moffat, RX7, 250--300HP great aerodynamics, featherweight, Now they barely look like road cars they are just purpose built RACE cars!! 1980 was the year DJ 17 would rather forget, a Large Rock took him out of the race think he was in the lead. Car 17 DJ XD Falcon 351 Cleveland V8 don,t know the exact HP but it had plenty of HP and Torque!! Guessing 160+++ on Conrod Straight!!The Camaro Kevin Barlett, 'Big Rev Kev' they called him, brakes on the car were not great!! Brock Commodore VK? 304/308?
When Bartlett was looking for the driver who took him out and the commentators mentioned Ron Wanless I thought he'd be keen having a crack at him when Bartlett said exactly that :)
After 1980 and a year of Dick Johnson and the 'rock' saga boring everyone to death, all Australians were glad to finally hear the end of it with the start of the 1981 race. But then of course, Johnson drama again when he didn't really win the 1981 race.
The story doing the rounds back in the day was that the Camaro was homologated with rear disks and fuelie heads but cams refused to allow Bartlett to run them.
Incorrect, The Chev that had had rear discs since the 60s had to run as a different model with drums on the reare and with dunger heads as well. Which were what the 'different' model actually used.
The fact that that piece of rubbish was allowed on our sacred track is a joke. I never saw 1 of them my whole life. What a joke allowing that thing to race here
@@ldnwholesale8552 - that’s correct mate - Fords had disc brakes on rear for years - A9X got rear discs also .cams just didn’t want the Camaro to win .
When I was a kid, I used to think that Mike Raymond and Garry Wilkinson were mediocre commentators made worse by a very obvious professional tension when calling this race. Listening back now, I'm even more convinced of it. There's clearly no plan between the two as to who will play what role, who'll be front line 'announcer' and who will do 'colour'. On the face of it, Wilkinson should have taken the former role and Raymond the latter, given his alleged knowledge as a motorsport commentator and Wilkinson's generic role for Seven. But they clearly didn't agree on roles and their producer was too low status to boss 'em around. That's why you have Wilkinson giving a pointless, unplanned countdown to the start and Raymond messing up 'blast off' or 'touch down' with "We have touch off...!'' Listen a bit closer and you will hear numerous occurrences of one trying to cut the other off. In all honesty they probably should have employed the Murray/James technique. One shared mic.
The American IndyCar racing in the late 90s had a couple of years with two announcers who were very clear on the 'announcer' and 'colour' roles as you put it. The 'announcer' was a very knowledgeable strong clear talking commentator - and the 'colour' announcer was very insightful and a little wise-cracking giving the main announcer a bit of jib that was beyond him while also being good-natured. It made for great commentating and enjoyable commentary - it was a terrific era for IndyCar racing itself too, so it was awesome watching. By the way, how 'bout those first 10 laps in this race, loved it!
Ford had so many handling problems with the Falcon, why didn't they ever use a Cortina? smaller, lighter.... I'm sure this car would have been a killer.
What a great error of tin tops in Australia and CAMS mucked it up with group A and paid with fan attendance. Supercars have ignored the fans who make and break the sport by making telecast on pay TV and they may well destroy it once again. Definitely going to be a loss of you generation followers because the free to air viewers rarely get to see it. 11pm on Sunday nights for country viewers doesn't count. I was on the mountain in 80 and 81 and I can't remember much but it's age related it's beer related
Darron, I think you are dreaming of you think the xd was a race car. Leaf spring rear ends are for horse and carts. The commodore was a superior road car and a vastly superior race car and the results speak for themselves. only diehards like Johnson Murray carter and of course Moffat stuck there heads up there arse and continued to flogg these dead horses year after year with little or no results.johson spent a small fortune on his greenstuff xe trying to keep the Vk s at bay and that was a waste of time and it ended up in the trees from him over driving it in the shootout for pole. Maybe save your praise for the a9x torana which layed waste to everything in 78 79 and was THE car to race compared to xc s which were a wallowing boat. Head to the historic racing these days and the original xd s of Murray carter are still getting flogged by the same cars that beat them thirty years ago.
+Captain Kaos The XD's were a great car both on the road and on the race track. The drivers did not have their heads up their arses for entering their Falcons into the race, that's simply bullshit on your part. What would you prefer? Watching Falcons, Commodores and the other breeds racing, or just watching a bunch of Commodores race around the track? How fucking shit would that be? Darron wasn't dreaming when he said the XD was a race car, because it was both a great car on the track and on the road.
Go and have a look at the steering box leaf springs and rubbish front end setup in an xd josh have you even been under a hoist to look at those dinosaurs, Johnson and co spent a fortune trying to get those piles of crap to do a decent lap time. The results are there forever that the Commodores were a superior car and way easier and cheaper to develop. Stop dreaming
+Captain Kaos Man, your just someone who has their head buried firmly up the Commodores arse. Yeah you can love your Commodores, or your Nissans, or your Toyota's, whatever takes your fancy. That's okay, because everyone has their own opinion as to what car they like or dislike. Point is, that I and many other people like the Falcons as race cars and road cars, and prefer the XD's and XE's over a Commodore any day of the week. Oh by the way, an XD Falcon won the 1981 James Hardie 1000, Good on you for supporting your team and all that sort of shit, but don't be blind to other peoples opinions, don't be blind to facts and don't ever force your opinion onto other people. Its just an opinion and opinions are like arseholes, we all have one. So go and enjoy watching your team race, support them and remember that the XD Falcon was a fantastic race car.
Ummmmmmm the Commondore was German mate and you only won in 1980 because of the Neanderthal morons who threw a rock on the track. Dick was smashing it by a mile till then
Its a conspiracy done on purpose to keep the Camaro of the track the onlyTrue muscle car runnin all American Body Suspension motor gearbox...Ford n Holden running Amercan v8 motors in them.
