THANK YOU 3C FILMS! I ALWAYS WANTED MORE MOVIE REVEIWS FROM YOU CAUSE THEY'RE FUNNY, INTERESTING, AND FUN TO WATCH! THANK YOU 🙏 SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS REVIEW FOR ME! HERE'S THE SECOND BATMAN MOVIE THAT YOU NEED TO REVIEW (BATMAN RETURNS)!
I remember begging my Dad to take me to see this when it came out. I still love this film! Yes, some of it is dated, but us who were their when this came out remember the phenomenon that Batman 89' was!
It was absolutely crazy. I worked in a store back then and the amount of merch we had was INSANE. Warner Brothers couldn't keep up with the demand. There is an interesting mini documentary about a small company called Toy Biz that made the original 89 action figures instead of Kenner. They couldn't handle the demand; they couldn't get Michael Keaton's face right on the figure; and were just overwhelmed leading to the retail shortage. They went out of business and Kenner came crawling back and they did the much better figures starting in 1990, I believe.
It's weird because I was born in the Christopher Nolan era, but I really like Keaton's Batman the most (so far). I just think the world and characters are very focused and compelling. Great vid by the way
For me I enjoyed Kilmer’s Batman. It felt like BTAS Batman on the big screen (idk if BTAS came before or after Batman forever) not to mention Val felt the most Batman like. Idk how to explain it but even with the psychological things his Batman deals with were just so interesting
Jack Nicholson was hilarious yet terrifying. He’s still the closest to the comics especially for the time. He always wanted to come back too but they never took the opportunity.
@@disclaimer.imjokin Nicholson, DeVito, Pfeiffer, Lee Jones, Carrey, Schwarzenegger and Thurman were all slated to appear in the cancelled 5th movie in the series, Batman Unchained. They would have appeared in an extended dream sequence where Batman encounters all of his past villains. This would have been brought on by Scarecrows fear toxin, who along with Harley Quinn, would have been the main villain of the film
Fun fact: when it comes to Batman's introduction in this film, originally Batman was supposed to say "I am the night". But while filming Michael Keaton changed it to "I'm Batman" and they kept it.
@@raddpluto ya it’s an awesome line. I reviewed all the classic Batman movies on my channel too if you would like to check those out my friend. I can tell your a big Batman fan so I trust your opinion.
To quote Jack Nicholson. "You need the dark comedy, Some of him needs to be outrageous or preposterous because if that isn't there and you try to humanize a character like that, it'll fuck you up mentally. It was probably my worst audition as I'm not acting for some of it I'm just having a good time because I love the character so much. My goal was to freak people out. I think they liked it, I'm still making money off it!"
This movie has a special place in my heart. Keaton and Nicholson will always be my favorite Batman and Joker. Is this the best interpretation of Batman? Well no, that comes later in the Nolan films, and no it is also not The Dark Knight as many will say. My favorite Batman movie will be the 89 film but I believe the best one is actually Batman Begins.
I used to watch this movie on repeat at my grandmas house, I remember laying in a cot she had for me next to her bed and I would always lay there and watch it, this movie has a very special place in my heart
Michael Keaton is wonderful as Batman back then and I love the music of Danny Elfman bringing to this movie so this 1989 movie of Batman is still really cool!👍😁🦇🤩🖤
Actually, I ALWAYS saw this as the joker's movie. From first watch. I always felt he had FAAAAAR more screen time than batman. And we're talking about Tim Burton here. Ofcourse Joker would be his fascination.
In the novelization of the book the money he was throwing during the parade was also laced with the chemicals that the balloons were going to release. He had them either way
I saw this movie when I was just 8! And then the love of batman continue I saw every one without hesitation and loved it I think every actor did a fantastic job with the role and I hope to see that continue with Robert Pattinsons role on the batman
This was the first live action Batman movie I remember watching when I was little, and since then it's remained one of my favorites alongside Batman Begins and the Dark Knight. Michael Keaton is also still my favorite live action Batman. Always loved how mysterious and subtle he was, and how naturally dark and intimidating he felt without really trying. Excited to see him in the role again in the Flashpoint movie.
@@Solwid100 those are great choices. I like rises and dark knight best. I’ve been reviewing on the classic Batman movies on my channel, have you had the chance to check those out? I think you would enjoy them. I would appreciate you letting me know how I did in my reviews friend.
@@bluedragon1418 that’s awesome. I remember enjoying them since I was little. I’m reviewing all of the Batman movies on my channel too, if you would like to check them out my friend? I think you will enjoy them.
Michael Keaton’s Batman is the definitive of pure revolutionary. A revolutionary newest reboot that introduces a Batman that is much more serious and dark.
I was 9 when this came out, and it was the first movie I ever saw in theaters more than once. This movie, and the Animated Series are primarily the reasons that I am a huge Batman fan today. That being said I feel like your criticisms were spot-on. I feel like Batman was always the supporting character in the films all the way up until Batman Begins. The movies prior to that were always about the villains.
I’m starting my Batman marathon watch before The Batman comes out. I definitely love Burton’s Batman for what it is. I do, however, see it’s flaws and as an avid reader of mainly Batman books, it’s absolutely nothing like what I’d consider Batman to be, and that’s not a bad thing actually. And that score…my lord that score. That part of the film is just perfect.
I'm good with it. Batman's been campy and serious and this is just another take. And it's a good one; we're still talking about it more than 30 years later. It resonated.
You're a true top tier youtuber loved all your videos and can't believe the amount of passion you put into all of them you are a true inspiration keep it up
Everything. It has my favorite version of Gotham City. My favorite Batmobile. My favorite comicbook movie score. My favorite versions of Batman and the Joker. I know it's not a perfect movie, but to me it captures the spirit of the characters and the world, perfectly.
@@orlandoruizjr3834 I think all those are great points, really awesome movie. I reviewed the movie on my channel too, could you let me know how I did in my review of it? I trust your opinion friend as I know your a true fan of the movie.
i think burton did it on purpose to cast michael keaton who is short and not so muscular to be batman who would expect someone that looks like that to be batman.
I was born in 83. As kids, when we talked about our favorite super-heros, it was Batman with Keaton or Superman with Reeves. Imagine a world where the multi-verse included a white haired, white suited, Reeves. Keaton and Reeves on the screen together either then or now would have been epic. RIP Reeves, still the best, and Superman is better.
I really haven’t seen any of the older Batman films but your review has inspired me to start watching all of them, especially since this is going to be a huge year for Batman
When it comes to Batman killing in the Burton films, from what I understand the reason is because Batman killed in the golden age comics, which is what Burton was basing his Batman on when he made these movies. It's also the reason why the movies have a oldschool setting.
Well in The golden age wonder woman's main weakness was being tied up by a man superman couldnt fly until the flesisher cartoons and lex luthor was a generic mad scientist and most stuff in it was retconned by The crisis on infinite earths so using it as an argument or excuse for batman to kill is stupid
I really enjoy you doing these franchise summary review videos they are amazing never stop making these you should make a name for them cuz they are awesome and unique. Also one thing I’d like is action scenes have a behind the scene descriptions stuff like that would be a good add to make them super awesome but they are already amazing and very entertaining!!!
Watching Batman 89 ending right now watching your review. Love the movie and it was essentially the first major Batman movie. It still holds up to this day.
I'm glad u brought that up. I think it's very interesting how the casting for Batman has always been very controversial until we see a trailer or the actual movie and then our critiques on the casting changes. Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Rob Pattinson, even Christian Bale I believe had criticism for his casting.
Yeah this was my first introduction into Batman as well. Superfriends had been off the air for years, there was no Batman Animated Series, etc. Although my favorite Batman on film is Bale, Keaton's Batman will always hold a special place in my heart. Also I liked how you included actual footage of people not liking Keaton being picked as Batman. I always heard about it but I was too young at the time to even know the initial backlash with Keaton's selection was negative. It just goes to show that WB knows what the hell they're doing when casting Batman in these movies, excluding George Clooney.
I always thought the scene of Batman sleeping upsidedown was a dream Vicki was having. There's a ticking in the background that you don't hear when she wakes up and it sets up how she doesn't know if the night at the museum really happened.
I love that he keeps doing these, the Halloween ones were Sooooo good, and the Spiderman ones were awesome, I can't wait for the Batman and Robin review
@@borbgorbon I agree, my review will be posted in a couple days. I reviewing all the classic Batman movies too. Let m know how I’ve done with my 89, returns and forever reviews my friend?
By the way it was meant to end with Christopher Reeves Superman and Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman meaning that we’re going to have a real cinematic universe before they were eventually scrapped
Sean Young, Daryl Hannah, Kelly McGillis, Julia Roberts, Linda Hamilton, Bridget Fonda, Joan Cusack, and Sigourney Weaver were considered for Vicki Vale.
Sean Young had the role but during rehearsals in England she broke her arm horseback riding in preparation for a scene. Kim Basinger was cast literally two days before filming began. She deserves credit for stepping in flawlessly.. Was her role the greatest? No, but she was savvy enough to know this would be a game changer in her career.
Thanks again as always! I love your reviews man, and respect your opinion a lot. For me personally i like Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, i have nothing with Ben Affleck, but he nailed that part of the role. I always felt Keeton was a bad Wayne
Batman 1989 will always be my favorite Batman movie. Jack Nicholson crushed it as the Joker. “As My Plastic Surgeon Always Said - 'If You Gotta' Go, Go With A Smile!” is my favorite line that Joker says! Love the review Chris and I like the toys in the background. As Joker says, “where does he get those wonderful toy?”
@@isaacjuarezjr.2416 he was great. I reviewed all these classic Batman movies too if you would like to check them out on my channel friend. I trust your option since your a Nicholson Joker fan.
I used to watch Batman 89 all the time when I was a kid, and a few weeks ago I rewatched it for the first time in years. And I loved it. Especially Nicholson. I think Heath Ledger is definitely the best, but Jack Nicholson has become very underrated in recent years. He was absolutely phenomenal as the Joker. He is also by FAR the most accurate portrayal of the character ever put to film. He had so many iconic lines and he was genuinely funny and terrifying at the same time. Phenomenal performance
Awwww Shit Chris is doing the Batman movies! I’m excited now I love your review series. You always bring in a new take and make them enjoyable. I can’t wait 😵💫
In case for those interested on who’s my first Batman, it’s the animated series version. I watched the show on Fox Kids and I watched the badass Mask of the Phantasm on video and I watched it every single damn time, so who was my first live action Batman? Val Kilmer’s take on the Caped Crusader in Batman Forever, I still love the film years later and I love that it kept some of the dark tones from the previous entries while at the same time being goofy and campy like the Silver Age Batman with hints of the 1966 Batman series.
I find Burtons Batman 1989 to be most influenced by the early 1939-1940 era of Batman, where Batman very much used lethality in dispatching his adversaries. The film is essentially reflective of the Finger/Kane/Robinson days, with a some Sprang influence (especially with the Joker having a permanent smile) all rolled into one cinematic experience.
Maybe the resolution is all a part of his growing character. This is probably him still trying to understand who he is and what is actually right or wrong. He still doesn't understand the problems with being Batman such as how his actions may have consequences (including killing the Joker). He still didn't learn in Batman Returns, but he might after witnessing both the Penguin's sad(ish) death along with never seeing Selina Kyle again (until they meet up in the '89 comic). After this, he probably is trying to learn more about his consequences and tries to mend his wrong doings.
I watched this Batman first when I was younger, and when I watched the dark knight when I was like 11 I was disappointed that they didn’t kill the joker like they did in this movie. Now I’m so happy they didn’t kill him because that would’ve contradicted the whole point of the movie
Awesome job! That was a very on point breakdown of the things which make this film groundbreaking, yet flawed in some very important areas. The whole critique of the lack of a character arc for Bruce/Batman was totally accurate IMO, & you managed to highlight exactly why so many hardcore Batman fans had serious issues w/certain aspects of this story. Many fans came out of this film feeling cheated in a way, because making Joker the killer of Bruce's parents came off as sort of lazy writing to an extent. It provides an avenue for a rather simplistic revenge story to play out, all the while casually defying many of the rules previously established for the character over many decades of mythology.
You know the one real thing that gets me about this movie…How in the hell does Knox not know who Bruce Wayne is?! I mean, I can understand Vicki not knowing because she’s new in town but Alex is a friggin reporter in Gotham! Sure Vicki runs into him during the party and actually asks him “do you know which one of these guys is Bruce Wayne?” and Bruce shoots her a no idea. Heck, I would too if some random hot woman would be asking for me too! Lol. But again, Alex saying “who are you?” when they run into him while looking for Commissioner Gordon is kinda odd for me. Sure he may be a bit of a recluse int the first two movies but c’mon everyone in Gotham has seen at least a picture if the man once. Again, Alex works for the newspaper! How do they not have at least one image of him from some kind if something somewhere?! Best way to put it…Batman! Batman! Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we live in where a man dressed up as a BAT, gets more press than Gotham’s golden boy?! Lol. Looking forward to next Friday thats for sure! And I cant wait for the “Returns” upload as well.
Can’t even comment without a bot automatically sending ridiculous stuff🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ but can’t wait to see these great reviews from past generations of Batman 🔥 gotta get my tickets soon for march 5 ‼️
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Murray, Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Pierce Brosnan, Nick Nolte, Kevin Spacey, Tom Selleck, Jeff Bridges, Mel Gibson, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Tom Hanks, Matthew Broderick, Sean Penn, Kevin Costner, Michael Douglas, Robert Downey Jr, Harrison Ford, Kiefer Sutherland, Alec Baldwin, Ray Liotta, and Kevin Kline were considered for Batman.
Hands down the best live action Batman movie ever made. Michael Keaton is only topped by Kevin Conroy, Jack Nicholson is only topped by Mark Hamill, and the best Gotham City ever made. It's very interesting that Bruce Wayne isn't that well known by the public, instead being a recluse. I'm also genuinely shocked that Bob, Eckhardt, and especially Alexander Knox (who is the best character in the movie) haven't been brought back in the comics or cartoons...
Jack Nicholson is an underrated joker and personally my favorite. Peopl are always talking about how crazy heath ledger and quoqin phoenix are (btw I don’t know how to spell his name)
12:21 Actually during production, Tim Burton and Michael Keaton had to read not only Dark Knight and Killing Joke while the other had to read the Silver Age comic, but the two also had to read the original early 30s comics when he (at the time) killed his criminals, and Bob Kane suggested Burton to make Batman kill a few of his criminals in order to reflect that vintage version he and (mostly) Bill Finger originally intended the character and stray FAR as they could to Adam West's version. Also, it was Michael Keaton's idea to hang upside down. Not Burton. So, you would die if you do that Mr. Keaton. 🤣
Actually Bill Finger hated the idea of Bruce/Batman killing, when DC editorial suggested Batman stop killing criminals he jumped on the idea & encouraged it. Also he really loved the Adam west show, mostly because of the fact it was the first time he was publicly credited with a Batman property. Also had it not been for the series Bill would have lost the official writing Job he had for Batman comics at the time. Bob kane used all of his powers & connections to stop Finger to be credited. Finger didn't want royalties or any compensation for Batman he just wanted to be credited.
I remember when my mom gave me a vhs tape of Batman 1989 and I was surprised of how Batman looked and I gotta say that he is awesome, while Joker from Michael Keaton's Batman is cool, But to me, Heath Ledger's Joker is the best version of Joker we know in my opinion, Still I agree with you Chris. Also Michael Keaton was my first time of watching Batman.
