Then...they gotta watch Joker 2019. Joaquin Phoenix took the Oscar for Best Actor. Not your typical comic book movie...thought it was amazing. Bet Asia will shed a tear 😢
@@jasonmcgill3904 Joker is a fantastic piece of cinema. It’s a character driven drama about a man’s descent into madness and violent revenge against a world that ignored him his whole life. The pacing, the dialogue, the soundtrack and the cinematography are all on point. It’s an understated kind of film that doesn’t rely on CGI. A movie that’s anchored firmly on its main character and his journey. Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur is simply phenomenal. For those expecting an action movie, yes, you’ll be disappointed. Me personally, I loved it. It would be great to see them react to it 😁
@@logik200 Thought Joaquin Phoenix was amazing and deserved his Oscar, otherwise I thought the movie was meh (and not because I was expecting an action movie, I wasn't, just thought the story and movie outside of Phoenix performance wasn't amazing)
Bruce wanted revenge against criminals for his parents death. That's why he locked himself in prison and that's why he accepted the offer of training from Raz. But when he was asked to execute someone, he changed his mind and chose his own path instead. Raz wanted to destroy Gotham, Bruce wants to save it.
I watched The Return of the King. I have just been waiting for Asia & BJ reaction to it. A& B reacted to part 2 while I was in vacation. I have been home a week & I still don't see 🎥 movie 3. I am confused how Batman reaction is posted before Return of the King. I 💕 A & B but I think I will skip this Batman reaction. I haven't really ❤️ a Batman movie since the 1st with Michael Kenton.
Simply, the best Batman origin story of all time. I saw this in theaters in 2005 and it blew me away, but just wait until THE DARK KNIGHT and Heath Ledger's Joker. He won Best Supporting Actor on a film posthumously. He deserved it. Its disturbing and haunting.
@@brianmcmaster5112 the main reason I say this besides heath's performance, is because the scene where joker came to the party, caught the great Michael Cain so off guard that he forgot his line's. He's a classically trained actor that never forgets his line's, but he was so terrified by heath's performance that he forgot his line's, that's beyond acting at that point. He has become that character, which is a difficult thing to do. There's others that have done that before heath, but you can still get a bit of a glimpse of the actor being there, a tiny bit. But heath was gone completely in his performance and it's proof when another classically trained actor is so stunned that he forgot his line's, in my opinion that equates to arguably the greatest performance in cinema history.
Batman is my favourite superhero because he’s not “super”, he’s just a regular human who has dedicated his life to fighting crime. Whilst other superheroes are born with their powers, or develop them through an event, Batman becomes who he is through pure dedication.
You two proved why including an origin story is important. While many of us know how young Bruce lost his parents and have seen it in several films, shows or comics - not everyone has and the look on your faces is a great reminder to those of us whom have 'calloused' over time. A young man with resources and motivation can make a huge difference.
Yeah, he won an Oscar. Like that should be something joker brags about in the comic book. It also speaks volumes that heath ledger won an Oscar in a movie with Christian bale and Gary oldman. RIP. Would have been a mega star if he hadn't overdosed before the dark knight released...
I love this trilogy. Christian Bale is my favorite Bruce Wayne/Batman because of this trilogy, he really got the character as well as the differences between the personas Bruce Wayne has, such as the fake playboy Bruce Wayne for the public, the real Bruce Wayne that few people get to actually see and Batman where he releases his frustration and anger. I also love the supporting cast, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Katie Holmes as Rachel. The villains were well cast to, Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul and Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow. Christopher Nolan rebooted Batman the best way possible, especially after Batman & Robin 8 years prior. Great reactions guys, take care!
Morgan Freemans character is Lucius Fox. He is an expert in military technology at Wayne Tech. So a quick antidote isn't out of the question. They probably had a universal one on the shelf.
The idea of the Bruce Wayne persona is to make him the last person anyone would think is Batman. Side note, I really do enjoy seeing people's reaction to that guy going, "Where are you!?" and then Batman shows up behind him going, "Here." Also, this movie ended up being super underrated because of the hype of "The Dark Knight". Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow was perfect casting.
I always forget that it’s Cillian who plays scarecrow 😂 Like he’s right there but he looks so different and it always takes me a second to see him lol. Such a good character 👏
The flower they gave Bruce during his training is meant to bring out your worst fears and you're supposed to overcome them. That's why everyone is terrified whenever Scarecrow uses it on them, plus it's made to be even stronger in the spray form. Raz-A-Gul is more of a title than a single person, the name is immortal but it's more of an identity you become.
Okay, you got that last part wrong. Raz flat out says that the other person who was acting as Raz was a distraction. This fits with the comics entirely. Raz is followed by a super big and skilled warrior named Ubu. In the first appearance of Raz in the comics, Ubu is wearing the "demon head" mask and acts like he is in charge while Raz plays the role of a father whose daughter was kidnapped by the League of Assassins. It was all a ruse to see the true character of Batman. The funny thing is that in the third one, Bane is the new Ubu. He plays the role to protect the true leader the exact same way.
The look on Asia's face when BJ notices the two girls getting out of the Lamborghini....PRICELESS. Careful BJ, you be gettin' in trouble my friend. LOL
This Batman trilogy is some of the best DC has ever put on the big screen. This one was truly amazing, but the next one will absolutely blow your mind. So glad to see you reacting to these. Would love to see y'all do "Warcraft" and "13th Warrior" at some point, too.
It's a very interesting commentary on psychedelics. The very thing that was used to make the Batman overcome his emotional obstacles, also had the power to effectively throw society into chaos. Intent, and desire to grow do change with the individual, and not everyone has the ability to face their fears, so to speak. This is an excellent way to display character growth, while also highlighting one of the many things that makes Bruce extraordinary.
I remember walking into blockbuster when they still existed and seeing this movie in the wall. At the time I had no idea they had even made another Batman movie, I was pleasantly surprised by it. When The Dark Knight came out later I was totally blown away.
@@scottvanhille5688 Well, there have been a few Marvel/DC crossovers in the comics, so who knows. DC still needs to step it up a bit first. But this is the best of the DC series (to me). Especially the Dark Knight.
"She gotta run up all them steps to get help for Bruce?" Less than 6 minutes into the video, and I already know this is going to be another amazing reaction by you two. 🥰
Great stuff both Marvel and D/C great stories and heroes and villains . Been a comic collector since the 70’s-80 . The movies are finally doing the books some justice. Batman tv show was great .
I can’t wait until you guys react to “The Dark Knight!” The late Heath Ledger is ASTOUNDING as The Joker! And btw, you’d never be able to tell, but Christian Bale (Batman) is British! He masks his accent extremely well!
First time commenting, but i have to say... Cristopher Nolans iteration of the Batman is one of my favorite trilogies. Can't wait to see them with you guys !
So if you listen to the speech Raz tells Bruce in the house, the chemical from the toxin in blue flower is where it comes from, but they were able to weaponize it. It does no harm the way they were using it in the beginning. And of course, the beginning is the people who essentially made Batman become “more than just a man.” They say that a few times to imply Batman is essentially unstoppable when he reaches full potential.
People forget Prince did the soundtrack to Batman (89) And Wesley Snipes playing Blade (98) was Marvels first big box office success that inspired them to start the MCU
I was 6 when I saw Batman in a crowded theater back in 1989. It's one of my favorite memories ever. I'm glad that you shared a little about watching it back in the day. I've seen every live action version on Batman at the movies. The Nolan films were such a treat to experience for the first time. I have to admit I envy you both just a bit. I'm so looking forward to these. Thank you, both.
Yes, before Bruce was Batman he trained his a ninja and all kinds of combat, not just League of a shadows but used all martial arts he learned from his past to create himself as Batman
I cannot WAIT until you see "The Dark Knight." You're about to have your minds blown. This first one is great, but the director, Christopher Nolan, took what he did in this first one and multiplied it by ten. No joke.
Bruce traveled the world for years, putting himself into the underworld to understand it from the inside. He also learned from anyone who was great at what they did, whether fighting, strategy, detective work, and whatever else, all as training to be a crime fighter. He uses his wealth and resources to fund that effort, as well as community and humanitarian efforts. And he honed his skills to their highest potential. Eventually he would meet Superman and Wonder Woman and together form the Justice League. But they would appreciate that while they're the best at what they do given their strengths, he's the best at what he does. At one point in the comics Superman said that Bruce Wayne is the most dangerous man on earth. He is willing to do literally whatever it takes to win, except he won't kill. That's the only thing he won't do.
The Bale trilogy is up there with the Keaton films! Especially the dark knight. As always, much love to you both and keep on with keeping us entertained as yall always do!
Hey everyone since Asian and BJ are so entertaining and we all love them so much I thought of a great idea! Lets all buy some reelin with merchandise! Lets show some love to the people that bring us joy! Lets bless them back. Imma get me a hoodie! BACK LIKE WE NEVER LEFT... This is my favortie movie of all time !
I really love this origin story for Batman, and this is a really good movie, but next one up, The Dark Knight, it is the shining star of this trilogy! It's so good! It's probably top 10 of all time for me. Can't wait to see you guys watch it!
To answer some of Asia's questions: Wayne Enterprises had it's fingers in a lot of different pies, including weapons development. And as Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman) says, they were developing the armor for soldiers, the vehicle for military bridging exercises, and so on... All Bruce did was find ways to repurpose them as Batman. And Dr. Crane was weaponizing the flower's hallucinogenic properties the same way you take the spicy stuff from chili peppers and concentrate it into pepper spray to spray into an attacker's eyes. Also, this isn't Batman's only origin story. There have been a number of variations over years, but most include his parents being gunned down in an alley behind the theater, as this gives him the motivation to go after criminals.
COOL!! Before Christian Bale played the Dark Knight, Josh Brolin, Heath Ledger, David Boreanaz, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Jackson, Hugh Dancy, Billy Crudup, Henry Cavill and Cillian Murphy were considered Kurt Russell, Chris Cooper and Dennis Quaid were considered for Commissioner Gordon. Rachel McAdams and Emily Blunt were considered for Rachel Dawes. Viggo Mortenson, Daniel Day Lewis and Ben Kingsley were considered for Ra's Al Ghul. Ewan McGregor, Marilyn Manson, Christopher Eccelston and Jeremy Davies were considered for Scarecrow. Wolfgang Petersen, JJ Abrams, The Wachowskis, David Fincher and David S. Goyer were considered for Directing.
I'm SO glad that you watched 'Batman Begins' before watching 'The Dark Knight' because with most Batman stories, Batman kinda plays a supporting role to the villains but they REALLY focused on Batman/Bruce Wayne in this trilogy. Such great movies!!
I know people love the Keaton Batman and while I loved those movies as a kid growing up. I really love this Batman and the triology by far my favorite. All 3 movies are great and each has some great characters in them and actors.
I love seeing you two experience Batman for almost the first time, as a life long fan (and also being named after the first Robin) I cannot wait to see how you react to the rest of the trilogy! Batman is such a cool character!!
Really glad you went back to watch batman begins first! And I strongly recommend you watch the entire trilogy, all three movies, because they all fit together perfectly and tell the whole story!
When you guys were asking about Batman's suit being resistant to fire, Lucius Fox states that the armour is a "Nomex survival suit". Nomex is the fabric firefighters did are made of and is extremely resistant to heat and flame. He also mentioned it is a Kevlar bi-weave, meaning the nomex is probably interwoven or layered to be stab/bullet resistant as well.
It’s hard to describe how stoked I was when this was coming out,I had gotten back into comics about a year earlier(especially Batman) and hearing that we might get a comics accurate “real world” depiction had be hype af. I liked the Keaton version and everything but it seemed like it treated the source material as something in the way and I knew this would be something great. It’s one of the few times my expectations were exceeded,it was somehow better than I thought it would be. The sequel is an absolute masterpiece of course but I still prefer the first,if they were able to have Ledger’s Joker here it would be the perfect Batman movie but he obviously works better in the middle chapter. Dark Knight is a better movie but Begins is a better Batman movie. It’s the first time they realized these movies should be about Batman🤦🏻♂️
Alfred's story was never told in the movies. His deceased father was the Wayne's original butler. Alfred took over when his father died. But Alfred was a inspector/detective at Scottland Yard in the UK/ London, England. He and another old American detective/ Private Detective? Taught Batman /BW his detective skills too.
His dad didn't create things like that suit for himself. Wayne Corp. Is a company like Amazon. Amazon started as a book company. Now they have multiple markets open to them. Wayne Corp was making a suit for the military but the cost effectiveness was deemed to expensive so it remained as just a prototype like many of the other gadgets batman utilized.
Great reaction, guys! So glad you enjoyed this movie. There've been many adaptations depicting and explaining Batman's back story and origin, and this one is very artfully done. As I recall, "Batman Begins" touches on the reason why he's reluctant to kill. His father was a doctor, and instilled in him a deep respect for the preciousness of life. As such, Bruce sees it as wrong to take away human life in anger, or as a matter of convenience. So when Ducard/al Ghul presents him the opportunity, he realizes that he doesn't want to become some heartless executioner. There's a part of Bruce that wants to honour his parents' memory, and keep their legacy alive. Also, regarding the 'fear toxin' cure: As B.J. said, Batman was unconscious for two days. During that time, Lucius Fox (Freeman's character) was able to analyze his blood samples and create an antidote. He might have done it by extracting and studying the poison, or by creating some kind of serum from Bruce's blood itself. Have fun with your next video!
This is the best Batman series to be made thus far. I have seen them all and Christian Bale is the best Batman that I have seen. Enjoy the next 2. They are awesome as well.
One of the reason these films are so good is because the trilogy was directed by Christopher Nolan, widely heralded as one of the finest directors of his generation. He also directed Inception, Memento, Interstellar, The Prestige and many others.
It wasn't until like the third time I watched this movie that it sank in just how good it is. I certainly liked it, but it took a while to really appreciate what Nolan did.
Liam Neeson told Bruce his name was Henri Ducard. The "Ra's" that died when the building exploded after he wouldn't execute the criminal was a decoy. I assume that if he'd have executed the guy and become a full member he would've been told that his teacher was the actual real Ra's. Either that or it's a title passed down. Sometimes I think the man Ken Watanabe played was the REAL Ra's.....until he died. And then it passed to Liam Neeson. And was meant to also pass to Bruce one day. Because he tells him at the beginning in the prison that he can become "a legend.." He's obviously not talking about becoming Batman because Bruce hasn't even thought of Batman yet. He means he would be Ra's al Ghul one day. Ra's al Ghul is Arabic for "head of the demon" or "head of the dragon" or something like that so it sounds more like a given title than a name. Maybe Liam Neeson WAS Ducard. And only became "Ra's" once the other one died. Because in the comics Ra's is immortal. LITERALLY immortal. In this since it's supposed to be less fantastical Ra's is immortal in a sense. As a title passed down..
Hey BJ, in answer to your question about the psychiatrist character's name in this movie, his name's Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka: Scarecrow He uses a fear toxin on people to bring out their deepest fears when committing his crimes
Amazing that you guys didn't know Batman's origin story! Really cool to watch a first time reaction to that!! Glad you guys are reacting to the whole trilogy ❤
The last line, "I never thanked you. And you'll never have to" always gets me, just one of the badest ways to end a movie. Love Begins, didn't think it could have been topped... then Dark Knight showed up and says hold my beer.
On a sidenote, other example of fictional heroes, who made themselves “super“ human would be daredevil, the punisher, green arrow, green lantern, Iron Man, black widow, and Hawkeye to name a few. All these people, they all have one thing in common. They all had different origins and such but each one of these people were regular humans and do not have extraordinary powers. They are regular people who made themselves. I will say that daredevil is the exception of the bunch. I name because daredevil does have superhuman senses, but he basically is a trained martial artist and he does not have superhuman abilities outside of the senses.
In 2005, when I was a teenager, Batman Begins was a great theatrical experience. I thought right in the beginning that if the bats were scary, Bruce turning into the Batman would have been demonic and quite crazy. Bale and Nolan were great to show this side of Batman, maybe superior to the dark phantom that Michael Keaton was in 1989. Also Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow and the toxin effect were epic and frightening as hell: I felt like hit by a taser and forced to cover the eyes.
Nothing beats that feeling of seeing someone else experience something you've loved for so long for the first time, and it's literally so awesome that you guys haven't seen these things yet and can share it with us lol
This was my favorite reaction watching you guys because your like a blank canvas with really no previous experience or information and I loved watching you learn how amazing Batman is. The fact that you don’t know anything about who joker is, is gonna an experience I can’t wait to share with you
So a quick backstory on certain characters in Batman. The character that Morgan Freeman played is Lucius fox, he makes all of Batman's weapons. The character of the psychiatrist played by Cillian Murphy is Dr Johnathan Crane AKA The scarecrow. He created a chemical that he sprays his victims with to make them fear him and is a constant enemy of Batman. Henri Ducard played by Liam Neeson is Raj Al Ghul right hand man and also uses Raj Al Ghul as an alias as well was one of the mentors of Batman in his early years.
Would love to see you guys react to "A Few Good Men". Peak Tom Cruise & Jack Nicholson with one of the most famous lines/scenes in movie history.... THIS IS A MUST!!!
BJ I know you didn't just throw out the 'Shucky Ducky quack quack' from Cecil Armstrong. I use to watch him all the time on Def Comedy Jam in the 90s when I was a kid. He was funny as hell.
Asia - the Doctor was Dr. Crane aka Scarecrow. Lucius Fox is Morgan Freeman's character, and he runs Wayne Enterprises, and comes up with new toys for Batman to do his job. Ras' Al Ghoul is immortal. He runs the League of Shadows, and he's run into Batman several times, his daughter Talia and Batman were romantically involved. Ras is one of those that says you just got to wipe out Gotham and start over. The aerosol spray is just like BJ said- it intensifies your fears. Other notable villains mentioned are the Joker which is Batman's biggest baddie. Falconi is a mob boss. Victor Zasz is a serial killer. Not mentioned in the Rogues gallery - Penguin, Catwoman (sometimes they work together), Riddler, Mister Freeze, and Bane.
I've watched this a few times but never made the connection between the blue flower and the gas. I thought they were both completely different agents based on the effects. But now you've mentioned it, it makes perfect sense lol. It seems the aerosol version Mr scary face was working with was a concentrated or modified form of the flower toxin. Good catch and good watch guys!
Batman is my favorite superhero because he's more realistic, in the sense that he doesn't actually have superpowers, rather he relies on his wits and gadgets.
The cave scene was a form of “exposure therapy”- immersing yourself in the thing that bring you terror so to conquer your irrational fears.. a truly powerful scene and my most favorite
