"Beyond" sounds good in English but if you translate it to other languages like spanish you get "Batman mas allá"/"Batman del mas allá" or "Batman far away"/"Batman from the far away". Also "Mas allá" some time is refered in spanish as "heaven" or "the other side" so that is why it is easier to say "of the future" or "del futuro" in spanish.
Still probably the best intro to a western cartoon series ever. The futuristic, monolithic city of Gotham appearing in the mist still gives me goosebumps.
When I was little I saw this series on TV, but I didn't realize that it was really dystopic and dark. Also as a child, I didn't like this series very much, but about today I have to admit that it is a really underrated series

In Brazil we had the "Batman of The Future" version and a narrator with a deep voice translating the texts that appear on screen, "greed, justice, etc.". It made the intro so 🥶
The only differences I noticed were the slight delay on our end by milliseconds and a crooked "X" in the international version. But otherwise, I prefer the "Beyond" title than the "of the future title".
The title change worked really well in Czech because "Batman of the Future" translates to "Batman Budoucnosti" which brings back the original alliteration. Also "beyond" would be hard to translate to Czech in a way that sounds good.
@@neongenesis7236 I guess with translations it's always a choice between being literal and being more creative to mimic some other characteristic, in this case alliteration. I don't envy translators :D
Batman Beyond having two different names for the USA and international markets reminds me of Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the show’s USA subtitle was renamed to The Legend of Aang for the international audiences.
Also reminds me of how the first Harry Potter book/movie was retitled in the States to "Harry Potter: And The Sorcerer's Stone" when the original title was "Harry Potter: And The Philosopher's Stone"
I’ve seen this as batman of the future and found the title corny as hell. Batman beyond sounds like a graphic novel title, while ‘of the future’ sounds like a research thesis...

from what i remember about the reason behind is that batman beyond was airing at the same time as justice league, so they ended up canceling the show to give way for the justice league. considering it was an original material, they didnt seem troubled to end it there. yeah there were some movies but never kept it going.
That's wasn't the last episode of Justice League Unlimited, tho, but the last episode of Season 2. There's still a whole other season of justice league after that.
Yeah, that's interesting! I'm from Brazil and the show came here as "Batman do futuro", literally "Batman of the Future". But I always thought it was only here. By the way, the cartoon intro in the TV was the original with Batman Beyond on the title. Weird.

I'm from Devon and remember it being called Batman of the Future. Mind you my family didn't have Sky so we either watched it during the CBBC slot on BBC 1 (or 2, I can't remember) or it was a part of one of the Saturday morning segments on ITV1. For those of you outside of the UK (especially the US), during the early 2000s the only forms of TV you'd usually see people with in the UK were terrestrial aerial or a satellite set top box that you paid a subscription charge for under a company called "Sky". The former could only receive 5 TV channels which were BBC One, BBC Two, ITV (later named ITV1), Channel 4, and Channel 5. It wasn't until somewhere between 2004 and 2010 that we were finally offered non-subscription digital TV via a service we still use today called "Freeview" which worked via a set top box that hooked up to a terrestrial aerial and then later on came Freesat which was the satellite equivalent of Freeview.
I liked this show as a kid, but I remember watching a certain episode in the dark in the late afternoon. The one with the radioactive green skeleton in the wall. Mesmerized me, but also scared me to hell.
That's actually what happened. Bruce Timm mentioned in an interview that while everyone thinks it's CG, it's actually a sculpture that he stuck on a lazy susan to turn it and shot it with his camera.
Watched the series in French (not in France, Belgium to be specific). The title card was the "USA"'s. The show' s actual French title (Batman: la relève, which would translate to "Batman: Succession or Batman: Next Generation) was even unknown to me until I eventually wanted to watch the show again. I only knew the original name. Anyway. Batman Beyond is the perfection of a name.
I grew up watching batman *beyond* but the name never sat well with me; "beyond." It sounds to me like someone saying popsicle *cold.* I don't know what I'd personally call it but I wouldn't have gone with beyond or batman of the future.
In France the title was Batman :la relève (Can be translated as Batman : succession) the USA title is much better. Love that show for sure best Batman ever.
To be honest, we were all kind of lucky to grow up with more adult-themed cartoons. I tried to watch new stuff on Disney XD, and it was so cringe literally, there were farting and burping sounds every 10 seconds.
In Mexico (and I have to assume that also in Latin America) the intro does say: "Batman Beyod", but with a voice that says: "Batman del Futuro" (Batman of the Future), the same voice that also translates the words throughout the intro (Apatía, Codicia, Corrupción, Poder, Esperanza, Coraje, Honor, Justicia).
It wasn't localized in the opening but it was voiced so it's a change.We have the same in Russia because in late 90's no one made changes in text of video
@@sandansaiyan5675 It's lie. In late 90 (and in the early 90s as well) there were a lot of content with localized video. For example, ALL Disney cartoons had localized titles. Even anime had (Pokemon, Sailormoon etc).
I prefer the American version, because if you notice, between 0:01-0:02 you will see a quick subliminal image of Bruce Wayne as an old man for a brief moment. Hiding in the shadows. Also Batman Beyond is a way better title than Batman of the Future
Many countries dont have so creativity to have 10+ meanings on 1 word so Beyond is hard to translate except Future.And check the translation.It's a more late time from now aka future
I remember in Russia they showed us the US version of the movie, called it Batman of the future but translated it through a voice over as “New Batman” in the theme song.

I understand the translation difficulties when it comes to titles, but both titles do work since both are accurate, but Batman Beyond gives off a more "protector of the city" vibe than Batman of the Future does. Batman of the Future makes me think of the movie "Back to the Future" which is a bit more silly than Gotham's resident nerd in a jock suit in a Batman suit.
I think the title was changed because in non-English speaking countries there are a lot more people who know the words "of", "the" and "future" than "beyond", especially 20 years ago. They simply would have been confused by the title.
You as a kid, I watch Batman Beyond and their episode when humans becoming Hybrid Human Animals, in my child mind I thought, that will never goanna happen in the future, but now in 2021, it started to become a reality.😱
Im from trinidad🇹🇹. I was lucky to have cable with kids wb...where it was known as Batman beyond. Then the show was picked up by one of our local tv stations....and was shown as 'batman of the future'. I was most confused by that change for years.
Pretty sure it was Batman Beyond in the Netherlands as well. But we're country that has a high percentage of English speakers, so that might be the reason.
I remember watching this show when it first premiered. After having seen BTAS this was by far the greatest way for them to continue the series. I’m glad they fave fans some closure later in one of the Justice League Unlimited episodes.
I think Western cartoon intros peaked in the 90s-early 00s.....Spiderman, X-Men, Batman: TAS, Batman Beyond, Men In Black, Justice League, JLU, Teen Titans, Jackie Chan Adventures.....anything I missed out?

So this is what actually happened! I used to see this series in my childhood which was aired under the name 'Batman of the future' on cartoon network channel. During my college years I got curious once and wanted to re-watch it again only to find it nowhere. Later I saw a few videos of the show under the name 'Batman beyond' and I was really surprised. I thought it's probably due to me forgetting the the actual title or something. Again like after another 10 years the mystery is finally solved I guess. By the way I'm from India. 😅
I live in Canada, where we only ever had Batman Beyond, but I remember watching one day on the same channel as always, and it was the Batman of the Future intro! Was so weird. I guess they got sent the wrong copy of that episode by mistake.
This needs to be a movie at some point. And we need those 90s elements. Including the head banging rock music. It's almost "The Crow-like". And what a way to have Michael Keaton be old Bruce Wayne. It would be badass.
For us in India it was called “ Batman of the Future” i think. I even remember newspapers having small pictures of the show with same description. It would usually play late nights on Cartoon Network around 9:30 pm or so.
I've noticed with a lot of the shows at the time some regions will get box view whereas others get a wider screen. Ben 10 (2005) is a good example of this where the version on TV in some regions had the sides cut off.
@@ChromeMan04 People still had cube TV's in 2005 with most regions receiving the 4:3 aspect ration version of Ben 10 like the US did for Batman Beyond.
I get not using Beyond for the non-English versions. But for English "Batman of the Future" sounds like a single episode of the OG Batman Animated series, not an actual series title. Glad they kept the music the same at least, to this day the OP is still shwey.
Originally here in Uruguay we had the Of The Future (with a dub of Del Futuro when the words appeared on screen) for a few episodes until they reverted the title to BEYOND (with the dub of Mas Allá) both sound great honestly so im happy i had both titles instead of just one.
