Batman Encounters Maxie Zeus - Excerpt from Arkham Asylum A Serious House on Serious Earth 

Seriously Maxie Zeus is one of the most underrated and underloved Batman villains ever. This scene alone is like 100x better than most villains in Batman.

This is like clayface. batman comes across these people who are deranged and alone. its really sad.

This definitely made me feel sorry for Maxie. You did a good job with the editing and the audio.

This comic (and your depiction, which I think is the most accurate one I’ve seen with the claustrophobia mixed with the right blend of atmosphere) is probably my favourite depiction of the rogues gallery of all time. These aren’t criminal masterminds that are just somehow inherently evil but somehow they got super powers. These are mentally ill people who have been driven far past their edge and further still by the curse of super powers, in many cases. I think clauface is a perfect example. He’s not in there plotting a mass murder scheme to outsmart the Gotham pd, he’s sitting in a corner, suffering and praying someone would come and let him ease his pain as he rots. Also the long panels are some of the best design I’ve seen in a comic. It’s not everyday you see artists using the physical comic as an advantage to immerse their reader in the atmosphere but this one does it My favourite part is maybe how Morrison includes real life elements in the story, like how maxie is obsessed with feces (a common symptom of insanity) or how clayface is inspired by those suffering from hiv (skinny, rotting, in pain, also (though this may be a stretch seeing as it’s just part of his character across comics) Batman’s fear to touch him which was common during the aids epidemic due to misinformation about the disease spreading through touch (which is alluded to when clayface says “I just want to spread my disease”, or something along those lines. P.S. your depictions of the characters are just perfect. For example, your batman isn’t some badass dude immune to his surroundings, he’s just a kid in a bat costume legitimately disturbed by everything around him, part of which he’s responsible for and you portray him as such (especially in your clayface extract). The same with Maxie, most others portray him as some booming god like voice but you make him sound legitimately damaged and insane.

You can definitely feel the gothic dread n eerie atmospheric tone around this dark corridor

For the longest time I didn't understand WHY he was cradling the oak barrel full of filth. Until I figured out that the repeated electrical shocks probably paralyzed his sphincter muscles. Gift of his body indeed.

i didnt realize he was holding a barrel of his own shit the first time so i wondered why all the moths (i thought they were moths) this moment was always one of the more pathetic and surreal moments of the villains as maxie rambles on while being electrically tortured, batman just observing then leaving the mess of blue he's staring at ultimately the moment is lonely, sinking into the sea

Maxie was a professor of Greek mythology, he wouldn't make such nonsensical mishmash of unrelated faiths.
