Since I'm an old guy I'll throw in Doug Moench's name. I like the work he & Denny O'Neil did in the 80's. Bats has had a lot of good writers over the decades.
Haven’t read Tynion but Snyder’s I found leagues better than King. I have a friend whose fav villain is Bane and he also really didn’t enjoy Kings use of him, but I also really don’t like King’s dialogue
@@TheComicBookReport Eh I didn’t care for his use of Flashpoint batman either, however! The Talia and Booster Gold mini arcs were some of my fav parts of the run there is definitely some great moments just overall I didn’t vibe with it as much
I really enjoyed this video a lot! Enjoyed your breakdown of each run. A little constructive criticism- maybe a little less summary of the individual runs and more comparing what one does better/worse than the others it’s put up against. Maybe rank writing, art, characters, stories, etc. Totally just a suggestion though, if you did more just like this, id still be watching
Appreciate the feedback! Thanks so much :) Newer video concept to the channel so still trying to get a feel for how I want to set these up, thanks again for the input/feedback 💪🦇
I gotta say this is a really great video and idea, Dom: brief compare/contrast analysis. I love Snyder and King's runs. I'm one of those people that loves King's tendency to prefer broken more vulnerable heroes. Tynion's was more meh to me (not bad by any means). But I LOVE his DetComics bat family run. We mostly agree for once! (Though I love disagreeing too).
Hahah well said my friend! Yeah I share a lot of your opinions here 🦇🦇🦇 I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the video! If this gets good feedback I’ll definitely try to do more of this kind of video in the future
It was a great video about batman writers comic run , i watched 3 times. Ps : i hace a question , you will do the same thing to superman comic modern run or others comics in future?
I wanted to see how this video did / how people enjoyed it-so far the reception feels positive. I think this video concept will be one I return to with different characters in the future :)
I have all of Snyders Batman run and Tynions IV’s Detective run. I will try to read his main Batman series one day (I know what goes on, I just haven’t read it yet), and maybe I’ll officially read Tom Kings run.
Yeah everyone has their own taste, but I definitely enjoyed all of these runs-they all brought something distinctive to the table 🦇 Whenever you get to those other runs, I hope you enjoy! 📚📚📚
I loved Snyder’s first time I read it. Re-read it and it was ok. I prefer Tynion’s writing and I love his Batman run, although his Detective Comics run is perfect. I haven’t read Tom Kjng’s run. I haven’t been able to get through it. I think if an Omni is released a I’ll be able to do so.
@@Carlos-xz3vi I love Snyder’s I’ve re-read portions, some parts more than one re-read 😂 I really enjoyed all these runs but I respect not all are for everyone ha. 🦇🦇🦇 Have you been reading any of Zdarsky’s?
Perfect timing on the video. I just ordered the Scott Snyder vol 2 omni plus the Tynion run in a hard cover lot off ebay. Now I just need them to reprint the deluxe hard covers 3-5 for the tom king run or put out an omni so I can complete his run.
I love Snyders run, it was also the first Batman run I read and it gave us one of the best Batman artists (Capullo) but after reading a lot more of Batman, my favorite is Morrisons run.
Such an awesome video idea. Honestly I love all the runs. I don't own all of Tom Kings, mostly due to waiting for a new edition. But Snyder is the best. In my opinion. I cherish that whole run so much. I have it all in trades and I know I need to upgrade because of how much I love it. Tynion's run is soo much fun. Like you said some characters stole the show even from batman. Like Clown Killer is one of my favorites. His whole story is sooo good. I agree joker war was fun but a bit of a letdown but great still. The current run is pure gold too. With the added KNIGHT book which is phenomenal its definitely up there. I agreed with so much of your opinion and my Snyder experience was the exact same way. Definitely do more videos like this!!😁👊
Tom King writes incredible stories but I hated all the Bat/Cat stuff in his run. Snyder's run is really consistent and just nails Batman in lots of ways to me.
Dark Designs is a top 5 all time for me. But agree the run overall doesn’t hold up. And I’m in the side who loves Kings run, although I haven’t read some of the later volumes
Sounds like we are in a similar boat though I finished King’s run (I’m a fan personally) And yeah I LOVED their dark designs I’m surprised more people don’t talk about it 🦇
@@TheComicBookReport I’ve always wondered the same thing no one talks about it! How are the issues leading up to city of bane? It’s the only material I haven’t read yet but I did read city of bane
@@TheComicBookReport yes from the cover there’s some penguin stuff, and a description talked about some dreaming stuff. But what issue do we see Thomas come to their universe?
@@whysosidiouspod yeah I think that dream arc was kind of polarizing for a lot of people but I found myself enjoying it. To be honest with you I can’t remember when Thomas was introduced, but I know he became more prominent toward the end of King’s run.
Scott Snyder's run has to be my favorite of the three. King's run is meandering and should have been a lot less than what it was. Months would go by where the plot didnt advance and the subtext was shallow and juvenile. I thought Tynions would be a break but it just seemed to be a boost for the speculator's market with a new character each month.
I wonder if king benefited from collected edition. I agree there were story arcs that dragged a bit/perhaps could’ve been tighter however being able to read complete arcs in a sitting may have helped my enjoyment-I’m sure if I went month to month there could be times I felt it drag. And yeah I found Tynion’s Detective Comics run a bit more engaging overall but still liked what we got. Snyder is my favorite 😂🦇
I really liked but didn’t love. Still absolutely worth reading and I think a magnificent conclusion to his run, but there were portions of his run I preferred
I have added snyder's omnis to my read list as I picked up the compact court of owls and am enjoying it so far. It is strange to me though that his run on batman has such a divided opinion among batman fans. Either you love it or you hate it with no in-between it seems.
I agree a lot of polarized feelings on Snyder’s run-I see it a bit with Tom King’s run too. I also see a lot of people with Snyder’s loving the first half and not liking the back half. I enjoyed it all myself but it is interesting to see the feedback from people 🦇🦇🦇 What do you think of that compact edition?
@@TheComicBookReport the compact edition is pretty neat. I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I have. You can take the stories with you anywhere and enjoy them in places an omni just wouldn't work.
@@GimilitheGreat yeah DC has a few lined up in kind of interested in! Saw a few reviews of the first two titles they released they look fun. As you say I love the idea of a portable reading copy
I love Snyder and capullo's run it's my personal favorite Batman run in my opinion no run has been able to come close since! king's run was a mixed bag some stories I really loved and some stories I just hated and James tynion was just okay it really peaked at joker war and I still haven't read Chip zdarski's run!
Think this is totally fair! I’m in a similar camp-LOVE that Snyder/Capullo and so far that’s my high bar for a Batman run but there are so many great ones
@@TheComicBookReport also what's your personal favorite run on Superman? For me I think it's Peter j tomassi and Dan jergens's run on Superman and action comics!
@@MarvelKnight-tw9hb I’m still reading that Tomasi run but really enjoying that. I am a sucker for John Byrne’s run though. Also I’m currently reading the Warworld saga which is excellent so far
I have not done a dedicated re-read yet but I can absolutely see that! I was a big fan my first time through but I’m eagerly awaiting when I dive back in sometime :) 🦇🦇🦇 Great to talk to King Bat fans! 💪👏
Allan grant the goat best batman stories was his with the goated team of doug moench and chuck dixon . The villains this team made is unmatched. Snyder is the only one who is at the level and goated
Fair enough! I loved that Snyder run but Court of Owls was probably my high point in the run-love that story. King’s run I also loved, I may be due for some re-reading 🦇
