The Dark Knight trilogy are one of my favorite movies of all time and my favorite Batman adaptation, but damn the fight scenes could have been much better, I hope we see more of BvS Warehouse fight style in the new The Batman 2022
Imo the first and second movies did the combat well. in Begins, it was incredibly choppy, but gives the feelinn of "where is he!? how!?" it made him seem elusive and precise. The second showed more of his martial arts (Keysi fighting method) and its practicality. Third was just Haymaker city.
@@evanwashington6959you see, when the dimwits talk about gold fight scenes, they want to do bodies flying around comically as opposed to actual hand to hand combat they they’d have to realise. They literally want a “comical fight”.
@@e3nethan910it's probably because the movies itself weren't that good, though to be fair the warehouse fight scene is really good, and the Snyder of cut of justice league is amazing.
@@cekmate20 no the suit is light watch the movie again and not to mention the action coreography is indeed bland and the cuts between shots are so miserable. I mean just watch warehouse scene in bvs every punch that batman pulls feels impactful and shots are amazing!
@@shinobi-no-bueno Chris was NOT going for "reallife fights" in reality ppl would not wait their turn to get hit, they would all jump in at once and they would use their weapons. They're literally watching their coworkers get beat while they're standing there holding machine guns
"Alright. Batman's in front of me beating up my colleague. I have a fully loaded gun. Guess I'll go and thwap him with my forearm." - Random Chinese mook.
Batman has been trained extensively in various martial arts, mastering over 127 different fighting styles, making him one of the best hand-to-hand combat fighters in the DC Universe.
"In the DC Universe" The Nolan Trilogy isn't set in the DC Universe and is meant to be a more realistic interpretation of Batman than the comics. Master of 127 martial arts is a gross impossibility (it takes constant and continuous training to master just one) and just a stupid way to say "my Batman can kick more ass"; a more realistic interpretation condenses all that into a Mixed Martial Art.
Lucian Ganea not at first - in the first movie he's fighting very much like Afflecks version of the bat especially in the prison sequence but bales batman got weaker as the movies progressed - the dark knight was his peak strength wise but his fighting style was less wild then in the third film he was weak and got the crap kicked out of him by bane as a result - also this batman couldn't turn his head which limited his fighting abilities
once again, if this version of batman existed, he'd get wrecked. hard. he'd be too slow to fight 4 people at once. as for the theme of the movies, the theme was that anyone could be batman. but no. only a select few people can be batman. they have to be rich, genetically gifted to be the perfect human, and be extremely intelligent. which is why JGL's character would've died so hard if he took over the mantle. He couldn't even fight two thugs without having to use his gun
Lego Sushi King Productions Yeah, i trapped him in a net, he saw me coming with a crowbar with 1.5 seconds to react. That's a lot of time for a martial artist to react, and he didn't even react.
Lego Sushi King Productions I don't wanna kill him, what would i do without him? Oh yeah, my phone trick's gonna work again, so i get to play with batman in about 2 days time. :)
+You Dont E.N.O Yeah, if all you care about is fight scenes. The rest such as characterization and acting, you know, the meat of a character, so far still remains to be seen.
Thomas Jiang high level fighting is a big part of Batman's character, Christopher Nolan didn't do that well. But I didn't say any of the movies were bad.
Pretty much what i said. This shot is a joke and the whole trilogy is overrated as fuck. So many damn plotlines. AND AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HATES BALE?? ITS LIKE IM WATCHING AMERICAN PSYCO.. Seriously who fucking casted a dark blonde guy as Batman??
Harry The Cat When I see people say Christian Bale is the greatest batman I rol my eyes so hard, I think they only say that because of Heath Ledger. Don't get me wrong TDK is one of my favourite movies of all time but even I thought he was a shit batman. I mean the fight with Bane in TDKR was so anticlimatic. Imagine Batfleck taking on Bane it would be a much better fight
+Zenzi Sage snyder is known to make simple shit look epic. The Nolan Batman is like a hipster version of Batman. Minimalistic, look at the lame as batcave, the stupid fighting technique with the elbows. Just badly shot and lacks dynamism.
jesus fucking christ batman begins had horrible camera work for the fight scenes... A combination of shaky cam and super fast cutting? that might have worked for the first scene but it was shit for everything else. Gladly the dark knight learned from its mistake and made its fight scenes in much longer takes and the choreography was pretty solid. Then the Dark Knight Rises fucked it up again, not with bad camera work, just flat out BAD choreography. Several instances of bad guys just waiting to get hit in the face instead of just SHOOTING batman when there's a clear opening. The first bane fight was passable, batman's movements still looked hella awkward. The last bane fight was just all around bad and not fluid at all
They weren't standing around waiting to be hit, Batman caught them by surprise and kept throwing them in each others way so they couldn't get a clear shot.
Spencer Malley the rooftop fight and the fight right outside the tunnel when batman rescues Blake say otherwise. Watch it again and look at what every other henchmen is doing. It's fucking terrible. No one is taking the time to simply back the fuck up and shoot him
Officer Dank Kush Lord I was referring to the fight when Batman saves Blake, I reiterate he's throwing the henchmen in each others way so they can't get a clear shot
Spencer Malley yeah as i just said, that is complete bullshit. Lol i just rewatched it, and within the first 3 seconds, the two guys in front of batman have all the time in the world to shoot him dead. They're both armed with automatic weapons, and if the one on the left couldn't get a good shot off (which is bullshit from the angle he's at, he has plenty of room), the guy on the right has an enormous opening. And that's not even including the several times afterwards in which batman could have been shot. They are literally WAITING to be get punched in the face. This is almost the defintion of terrible choreography. The Dark Knight was much better and much more convincing at least.
@Coochie Monster several ppl in the league of shadows and their captives Ras al ghul Joker henchmen Dogs Harvey dent Talia henchmen Talia And recklessly endangered several more innocent lives.
So three batman movies that combine around 7 hours only has 5 minutes all combined worth of fighting scenes.... Yes I know you think of them as masterpieces but that is a flaw on nolan's part they need to be balanced at least 15-20 minutes each film of fighting is what I say...
These are just hand to hand fights. There are more action scenes involving batman (like chase scenes) or just the bad guys. Then again, I'd say this trilogy is more about Bruce Wayne than about Batman. It means they had to install character development scenes which take a lot of place
@@Korounet Also, Nolan's a bad fighting director, but a brilliant large set piece action director. This is why Inception is the only movie he made that had more than one good hand-to-hand combat scenes; they're incorporated with the crazy set piece.
He's supposed to be a Batman in our world not a Batman in the comic book world. In Nolan's Batman movies there are no super powered beings or characters that can "easily" destroy 30 armed bad guys so a Batman that uses fighting skills sparingly and stealth and tactics and technology more regularly is what Nolan was looking for.
Also, its not realistic to start with lol. Some of donnie yen's films, ppl go there to watch the realistic fights though. He can make them look good and realistic at the same time.
I actually find the combat in Batman Begins to be the most dynamic and interesting. Even in The Dark Knight, which is the most critically acclaimed of the series, Batman's combat is pretty straightforward and unimpressive.
That's mostly to do with the choppy camera work in the first one. They stabilized the camera in the second one which allowed more of the okay but nothing stellar choreography to show.
Begins: To many quick cuts Dark Knight: slow Choreography Rises: More slightly faster but strange choreography This Bruce was trained by the league of assassins yet fights like a random street brawler. Keaton and Kilmer’s Bruce’s fight with great skills all the time in those films and the fights looked fun. All I see in these films are slow punches, weird kicks, and extras falling over. The best fight for me was when he saves “Robin” in the canal/tunnel entrance. Felt quick and showed at least something I think The Batman will have the best choreography since Forever… thankfully. Edit: it did
@@SIRebrum amazing fight scene when watchin in theater for the first time and 10x better than bale fight scene and to be fair michael keaton batman just survived a plane crash and ofc batman would lose but win again later
@@jasonsalim622 Are you kidding me? Bale is by far a better fighter than Keaton and Kilmer. Bale could easily fight various groups of fighters from 6 to 10 members. Bale used punches, kicks, elbows, etc. Keaton couldn't fight very well, in 89 all the enemies attack him from the front, batman doesn't do much, batman 89 and returns are very good movies but the fights aren't very good, keaton only throws punches at the joker In the final fight, no kicks or elbows or heads, just fists and little else. in 89 a thug jumps at him and keaton knocks him out by literally touching his foot and he dies, is this better for you? leave nostalgia aside. in returns in the scene of the fat man keaton faces a thug who jumps next to him and stands waiting for keaton to throw him without moving. and Kilmer only faced brute thugs who screamed when they went on the attack and little else, kilmer moves similar to bale in begins but not like bale in rises (where it is his best moment in hand-to-hand combat)
1:48 cracks me up every time. If you look at Batman’s face you can see the disdain he has for guns in his face right before he back fist’s the Bat wanna be. Excellent attention to the Batman mythos.
Christian Bale's batman demonstrated knowing and using 13 different martial arts. Keisy, Boxing, Kung fu, Sanda, Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, Henso jutsu, cho ho, jujutsu, senshi teki kioyo, etc.
@@Mr_Wayne2012 Yeahthey could've done a lot more demonstrating those fighting styles because a lot of the time you can't really see whats going due the camera angle or the cape disorting the picture. Which looked cool when he would swoop in but then the choreography would suck. The Batman and Batman V Superman still has the best Batman fight scenes. And Snyder Cut.
I think what a lot of people in the comments don't get, is that the fight scenes aren't concerned with looking flashy or cool, Their focus is on getting the Job done.
If I had to chose between Spider-Man or Batman's combat, I'm sorry, but is go with Spider-Man. It's not the fact that it has to be flashy, but they should both look extremely skilled. Batman in this series however looks like as if he was in a wrestling tournament.
The moment I saw BvS and I know we don't get a Batfleck Compilation anytime soon. The warehouse scene and the future fight were so badass but not enough. Waiting for the Batman film to come out/ Geof Johnson and Affleck coowrite the script. It can be awesome for sure!
I like the swat fight in the Dark knight waaaay more than the warehouse scene in bvs, because in the swat fight, batman uses tactis and skills to save countless slaves from being shot by the police, stops the joker and saves Two boats full of people WHILE causing zero deaths. The warehouse scene is all about batman snapping arms, cracking skulls, stabbing, shooting, exploding and murdering henchmen with a soundtrack going: "BWAAAM BWAAAAAM BWAAAAAAAAM" Now don't get me wrong, i love the Dark knight returns and i know ben Affleck's batman is kind of based on the batman in that comic, but the reason he was so violent in that story was because he was old and crazy, while batfleck is only 45. " WHY ISN'T BATMAN KILLING EVERYONE?!? HE SHOULD HAVE USED GUNS AND KNIVES TO KILL EVERYONE INSTEAD OF TACTICS AND SKILLZ!!" - Zack Snyder 2015
Probably the best comic book movie fight scene, but I gotta say I do love that first fight between Batman and Bane in Rises, just because of the emotion and character development that is tied up in it. But yeah, Affleck/Snyder's Batman truly kicked ass in BvS.
@@BryanLomax can people stop saying that. It was no the best "comic book fight scene". How often do you see Batman killing people in the fucking comics?
I liked BvS and mos but Tdk trilogy is much better. Sure BvS and man of steel may have better fight scenes, but bale's batman was a more realistic batman and Ben affleck was batman straight from the comics. And I hate how everyone says that the batman vs babe fight is unrealistic. You want an unrealistic fight? Look at superman vs General Zod. Superman had NO fighting experience whatsoever and he somehow won against a man who was bred for the sole purpose of being a warrior. Take the batman and bane fight and replace batman with superman and bane with Zod, and that would be what happened to superman in that fight.
Canaan B Bale's batman fighting was not realistic. The reason why all of you say its realistic is because you don't see all those flips and whatnot. But to martial artists, the technique and effectiveness of it matters a lot too. And a lot of moves are ineffective, impractical and ugly in the fights. The speed, when batman attacks, a lot of you say its realistic too because its the same speed as UFC. In a street fight, the techniques will be the same, but the fight will be faster paced. Its not just the bane vs batman, its almost 90% of the fights. Batfleck was unrealistic, but the moves actually work like the judo throw and its actually effective and practical. I can give you some examples if you like
like i said before, it's the Keysi method. i've heard some people say it works and some people say it doesn't. it all depends on the enemies you're fighting and the style they use.
Great fight scenes, just wish they would zoom out more so we can see everything. Compare the last third of the video to the rest. Framing and composition is everything.
One of my friends is a certified Keysi Fighting Systems instructor, and he occasionally teaches me whenever I’m visiting home. The Dark Knight trilogy adapts it well, but it moves way faster in real life. This movie really slows it down for the cameras.
Wow 10 year old me thought this was the best thing ever. The camera angles suck and you never see the fights that well or anything and it’s kinda disappointing.
This is definitely a lot more realistic than most of the flashy high speed fight scenes in Marvel movies, it would make sense for someone as armored and strong as Batman to focus on slow, but powerful debilitating blows.
Batman is one of the fastest humans alive. He knows more than 80 different fighting styles and you still think he will attempt a haymaker at the first goon? Batman was never meant to be realistic, but you can at least make him entertaining
One thing I will say about the dark knight batman is all of those hits rlly feel like he putting effort into them. Even if he’s not super fast he move precise
Living proof that even when it comes to superhero movies plot is why you go see movies. The action did improve over time for the most important fights though; in Batman Begins they just shook the camera whole time but the Bane vs Batman fights were well done in the Dark Knight Rises.
It’s as if the henchman don’t know how to fire their guns. They’ve had plenty of opportunities to shoot but all they did was hold them and wait for Batman to disarm them.
I know folks always try to ignore this excuse, but that’s the most reasonable explanation: the reason why these movies have fight scenes with such little amounts of style and flashiness (and movement) is because, realistically speaking, KEYSI (the fighting method used in these films) would be the best fighting style to use when fighting in this suit, since it requires minimum movement from your body as a whole. The suit weights half of your weight, and there is also a big ass cape behind your back that will always get around your feet if you’re not precise. In order for you to actually defeat someone, you’d have to use as little movement of your body as possible to get the job done, because the weight of the suit will take twice amount of energy if you will try too hard, and its chunkiness will prevent you from performing some of the moves, and may actually put you in a vulnerable position. This is not video game Batman, who also wears a weighty armor with even longer cape yet can float around in the air like he’s made of pillows. This is Chris Nolan’s Batman. Nolan is a smart man. He knows his shit, and he considered all the possibilities before making these films. This is how he made it. The real flaw was the way the editing went with some of the scenes.
