This interpretation of the Lazarus pit is probably my favorite. No giant pond of green ooze that turns corpses into zombies, but a literal pit in some forsaken part of the world in which Batman is metaphorically reborn. Bruce may have put on the cape and cowl to fight Bane once before already, but it isn't until this scene where Batman actually returns. Once again finding his greatest tool: fear.

That's a cool ass interpretation of it but I always thought it was more the actual nod towards banes origin. He was literally born in darkness in some south American or central American prison of legendary status for it's horrible reputation and it's quite literally built straight down into the ground same as in Nolan's movie and bane learns everything growing up in that prison. Learning multiple languages and warfare tactics and history and knowledge and all sorts of stuff. Banes actually a genius and ended up straight up taking control of the prison as a young man and used it as his base of operations for a time before he eventually heard tales of a bat like man far to the north in the city know as Gotham.

That's the main reason I love the trilogy because it makes almost everything believable. Many people complained about bane. I personally don't like the stupid super steroid juice from the comics . I do admit I would have preferred Ras not being an hallucination . But overall I enjoy the film. Just watched it again a few days ago. The part when Jim Gordon realizes who batman really is brings a tear to my eyes

The shot where bats suddenly jump out is insanely meaningful. Bats always symbolised Bruce's fear. This shot is fear finding Bruce once again, but as the old guy said, fear is the only thing that'll help him rise. Unlike the natural way, where bats fly into darkness, here they rise into the light, the top of the well, symbolising the "hope" that Bane mentioned earlier when talked about the well. This shot literally means fear flying Bruce out of the well.

Not many people understand this scene, but this, THIS was the moment Bruce Wayne stopped being Batman. The entire movie is about just that. Not just "rising" as of coming back, but rising from the pit of darkness in your life - MOVING ON. Bruce moves on from being Batman and makes way for his heir, another orphan who can't move on - Blake. And this is the moment when he moved on. This scene in the pit is a reflection of his first fall into the bat cave. His father saved him. Without him, without his parents, it's impossible for Bruce to not be afraid. It's impossible for him to continue living without their help, their support. He could never leave any "cave" in his life, without them. But he did it. He made the climb without the rope. Without his father, his parents to rescue him. He allowed fear for his own life overwhelm him for the first time. For the first time he doesn't want to die. He can't, or his city will burn. And in doing so, he moved on. His life has meaning again, he is no longer an empty vessel. This is why he goes on to fight Bane in bright daylight. Batman of the night is gone. It's just Bruce Wayne in a Batman costume. After he saves his city, he never wears his costume again, he truly moves on, moves away with Selina, to have a normal life. He is not angry anymore.Batman died and Bruce Wayne was reborn in this very scene. Yes, I cry everytime.

This scene means so much to me. Back in High School I was a wrestler and had wrestled for pretty much all my life and going into my senior year I got into an accident that broke my femur and I was unable to walk and finish out my senior year and that was the year college teams were getting an interest in me. But all that went away by one freak accident. I thought I wasn’t going to walk again and was in a pretty rough spot mentally and was suffering from depression and felt that my life was falling apart. Right around the time this movie came out I went to see it with a friend of mine and after seeing Bruce go through a similar journey I did of being injured physically and mentally and overcoming it, it inspired me to never lose hope and to keep fighting. Believe it or not this scene helped me through a dark time in my life and after months of enduring physical therapy I was making significant progress of building back my muscle that I lost and not long after I was able to walk again. The doctors were so amazed at how well I recovered even though they told me that it would be unlikely that I could walk again. Even though I couldn’t wrestle my senior year I still learned a lot form my experience. I owe a lot to this movie and especially this scene. This scene is one of the big reasons why Batman is my favorite comic character because he is just man without any powers but yet his most amazing quality is his determination to push himself both physically and mentally. He inspires us to never give up and be the best version of ourselves. And no matter the setback or loss he endures he never gives up. He is a character that everyone can relate. To me he is more than just a comic book character but a symbol that can inspire us to be better than what we suffer. Sorry for the long rant but just wanted to express my love for this movie and this scene. Stay blessed everyone and never give up…

Memtub The rope signifies safety. With the rope on, Bruce could jump without worrying about falling and dying but it’s a double edged sword because it also held him back. Without the rope, he is afraid of dying and that adrenaline pushed him to be careful climbing up and then jump farther to make it across.

I always see people count The Dark Knight Rises as like the ugly duckling of the series but this scene right here, this scene might be the best scene out of all 3 movies. The entire scene is amazing. From seeing him fail and him realizing what he needs to do is so inspirational. The music by Hanz Zimmer is in my opinion one of his top 3 songs he’s ever made. And the slow buildup of the song and the scene as a whole are incredible. And when he finally makes that last leap of faith and makes it out of the pit, that is when the Batman was born again.

@@Iden_Elihio_1999 I think it’s just messy compared to the other two. There’s a lot they’re trying to wrap up here, almost to the point that it felt like it needed a LotR-style Extended Edition. Sure, 10 years later it’s easy to say “I don’t get the reputation” but when it was brand new and had tons of hype AND had to try and live up to audience expectations after The Dark Knight….yeah some disappointment was inevitable. There’s also the sad truth that the plot was most likely already at least somewhat laid out before Heath Ledger died and had to be altered. Either way, I don’t think it’s ever been viewed as a stinker of a sequel or anything. It’s just not quite as good and lacking overall compared to what came before. But it also has some of the best moments in the trilogy.

Key difference between Talia Al Ghul and batman Talia believes them all to be monsters and it's okay for Bane to die with them so she does not throw in the rope. She'd rather he dies with them all. Batman believes he must throw in the rope because there are still few good people down there. Same belief for Gotham, Talia wants to destroy it because it is very corrupt and dirty. Batman wants to save it because there are still few good people.

Small but really telling detail: How casually Bruce tosses the rope down. After facing down tremendous personal demons, and overcoming near impossible adversity, his first instinct is to help his fellow prisoners. No taunts, no hesitation, to celebrating. It's such a simple, brief moment, almost thoughtless. And then he doesn't wait around at the top for congratulations, or to feign humility as he secretly seeks praise for doing something that only one other person managed to do. We can't fully comprehend it, but we can see and imagine the relief and hope overwhelming them by looking at the old man's face. It's like he's just now contemplating the possibilities of freedom, something he probably never let himself think or dream about for years up until this moment. Bruce immediately leaves, knowing full well he'll likely never see any of them again, to progress to the next obstacle. It really shows you what kind of person he is at heart. A good one. It also makes me picture a scene where the jailors return for a supply run only to find an empty prison, realizing that one of their captives found the strength to escape the pit, and maintained enough humanity to do for others what they may never have done for him if the situation were reversed. It really shows you what kind of person Bruce is at heart, which is to say a good one.

This is the most important moment in Bruce Wayne's life. The rope symbolizes his father coming down to get him in the well. Now for the first time he has to really face the fear and pain of his childhood, even more so than in Batman Begins. This is him finally moving past that and it's why after this he's Batman in the daylight. He's come out of the shadows. Top that Marvel and Zack Snyder!

That is incorrect; his fear isn't gone at all.. Rather, his mind has been redirected to the greater fear: that his failure will result in the death of Gotham. He has to find the will to escape the pit, because there is no other way for Gotham to survive.
@mhtube01
@mhtube01 2 года назад
I wouldn't say his real fear is lost, if anything he needed to embrace his original, childhood fear to find the strength to rise from the pit. This was signified when the bats came swarming out around him before he jumped. His greatest fear at the moment though was failure. I see what you're saying though about him rising from the pit as Bruce Wayne. It ties back to what Rachel says at the end of Batman Begins, "the man I loved, the man who vanished, he never came back at all." The Bruce she knew, wasn't who he was in the public eye as he was trying to avoid suspicion. Batman represented who he really was, kind of like Blake says to him in this movie, "Right when I saw you, I knew who you really were." The Bruce Wayne who left Gotham originally to travel the world finally went back to Gotham after this scene. Batman was lost as a hero in the end, but the real Bruce went on to live a normal live with Selina.

+Tony Gonzalez (l2eCkl3sS On3) While that moment is crucial, the moment at 3:20 where Bruce Wayne visualizes himself making the jump he immediately believes that he can do it. You see him become Batman and his persona. When Bale plays Batman he always has his mouth open. It is one of the mannerisms that Bale uses to play two characters.

I remember once on a late night walk I was okay but a little tired then I looked up and the sky and felt a great joy in my heart when I saw a bat fly. You begin to realize that I read to many comics and watched to many movies. But yes, every time we now see bats fly we don't think scary monster movies. We think this. Oh what do you know I gave you your 52 thumbs up. Another comic book reference.

I don't think the bats were real. They represent his fear and signify that he's afraid to die from attempting this jump. The fear of dying found him, which propelled him to make it. Awesome addition to the scene.

I know it's the smallest part to this or whatever probably, but one of the best things about this sequence is where he throws the rope down at the end. Just a lovely touch.
@alexanderharvey400
@alexanderharvey400 10 лет назад
What did that do? When he throws the rope from the top at the end?
@MeesaBack
@MeesaBack 10 лет назад
^ What it did was that it freed all of the prisoners. These were Bane's prisoners, so Batman probably thought that he has no right to keep them there any longer, so throwing the rope down basically set them free.
@alexanderharvey400
@alexanderharvey400 10 лет назад

Using the rope lol. He would have had some men down there with him.

Dominic Burke So he must have brought other men and guns as well. Cuz if it was just him then all the prisoners would just swarm him and kill him and take the rope.

This is not just a scene for me.. its basically my life.. it’s always this part I come back to when I need to be picked up again. I’m 28 years old and this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Not only because Christian bale is one of my favourite actors and my favourite Batman and I’m a MASSIVE Batman fan(I have Batman memorabilia & other collectibles in my room) but mainly for his iron will and his dedication and never giving up. Seeing him stand up out of that pit rising like the warrior he is with Mr. Hans Zimmers music and the prisoners cheering is bloody amazing it gives me chills and its exactly how I felt. Being sick & dying in bed everyday first from destroying my body, and then being sick from healing it, as Batmans was until he was finally ready to make the climb and rise. I like to think that I myself conquered what I did and I also did rise again. I finally made my climb out of my prison of addiction. I’m no warrior but I battled drug addiction in my life and pretty much lost everything. After highschool, I went from an athlete, a competing promising kickboxer, a basketball player, to a junkie loser. No money no future no desire literally nothing. Couldn’t even save a dime. I was a walking corpse. Nobody wanted anything to do with me. I didn’t either. You can imagine I was called every name in the book and suicidal thoughts were nothing new to me anymore. Talking harshly to myself was nothing new to me anymore. I had a privileged life I had everything I ever wanted and I guess somewhere down the line I took advantage of it and abused it and I went from a good kid an athlete, to nothing. Just another junkie loser. Here I was hurting my loved ones but mainly myself the worst way possible. After battling pure hell somehow with the Grace of God one day at a time I’m now almost 4 years clean and sober and I have everything back in my life and more. My family. An amazing fiancé who knows everything about me and wants to be there for me through it all. And I can actually save money now which is a blessing to me like no other. I went to acting school for couple years and got an agent and became an actor so we’ll see what happens with that. It has become my passion. And I started a small carpentry business at home since Covid started. I love acting but If it doesn’t workout, I can atleast do the things that I want to do now in life and try. And not be trapped in my prison of addiction anymore.. Despite all that I still consider myself a junkie loser who hasn’t really done anything in his life. And I don’t feel like I’ll ever make my parents proud. Staring death in the face and fighting for my life and conquering it back from addiction I guess isn’t something this older generation of my Indo Canadian ppl think it’s anything to be proud of.. more like something to be ashamed of. I know I have to talk to myself kinder and that’s something I’m working on. But it’s hard when even now sometimes people who I don’t get along with that well try to judge you for your past mistakes. Using my past as a weapon. So I just stay away now as I can’t handle that kinda toxicity in my life. It hurts more and does more damage than most will know but it is what it is. Most importantly I just hope to make my family proud, mainly my fiancé and my parents who will hopefully be proud to call me her husband and their son one day. Thats all I really want. That’s all I hope for. Thank you for your time to read this. All the real ones struggling and fighting out there please keep going. One day at a time. You are a warrior like Batman! When he finally rises out of that pit it is exactly how I felt when I finally beat my addiction and saw the world with my clear eyes again. I was rising again. To a better, wiser and stronger me. I made the climb. You Will Also Rise! God Bless You🙏🏼💪🏼🖤

The Pit is actually Nolan's interpretation of the Lazarus Pit. A grounded pit. Seeming references to the Lazarus Pit in the film include: 1. Bruce healing from his injured back after being placed there by Bane (albeit over a period of 5 months) 2. A hallucination of Ra's al Ghul telling Bruce that "there are many forms of immortality", hinting that he is "immortal" through the birth of his daughter who was born in the Pit. 3. The death of Ra's al Ghul's wife in the Pit, who lost both of his wives (one of whom was Talia's mother) because of the Lazarus Pit in the comics. 4. The apparent insanity of the prisoners who killed Talia's mother, a common side effect of the Lazarus Pit.

This movie and especially this scene always gets me motivated and helps me out of dark times when I'm at my lowest. Also that it shows that even someone like Batman can be depressed for 8 years and still manages to get through it somehow. Fictional character and still helping me like if he was sort of my mentor.

I have some inspirational people in my life(fictional and imaginary) in some moments I imagine them chanting like those people in the pit for me. All in all its a good thing to refer to someone else who can inspire you in a tough moments it was even written as advice in the Bushido which was written centuries ago. Thats why i like Nolan's Batman he is very human despite being a superhero.

I must've watched this scene a dozen (if not more) times over the past two years. A deep part of my being yearned to be able to tap into the same pure courage and spirit that Bruce exercised here. The scene spoke to me, instructing me on how to act and guiding my evolution. Then one day not too long ago I watched this scene again. It still felt meaningful yet I noticed that the deep yearning in my soul wasn't there anymore. I'd embodied the lesson shown in this clip in my own life and hence nourished my soul. Deep gratitude to Nolan, Bale and all who produced this marvellous cinema magic.

This scene resonates with me in so many ways. Since late 2019, shortly after high school and before 2020, my life has spiralled downhill, i spent a yr just doing nothing at home, staying up late at night for too long, watching and doing things i wasn't suppose to do, struggling with managing diabetes, having poor social skills and overall just not being productive. I'm currently in my lowest point in my life and I've been living in the same area for yrs now, especially with the quarantine and the pandemic. Now watching this scene from the dark knight rises as bruce Wayne climbs out of the pit is a truly emotional and inspiring scene, since it reflects how we can all overcome all the anxieties in life and take the risk that'll change our lives for the better! I won't give up and i have faith that I'll escape my hellhole and find purpose in life! Pray for me guys, pray for me.

This scene got me out of the hospital when I broke my leg. After two surgeries I was absolutely miserable and all I wanted to do was go home, but I needed to prove I could manage that. But my first attempt at physio was an absolute disaster. The therapist wanted me to go from one end of the corridor outside my ward to another, on just a crutch. I managed a step or two but gave in to pain. I retreated to my hospital bed and hated myself for a while. But I loaded this up on my tablet, and remembered how much I was psyched watching this the very first time in the cinema. And the next day I called the nurse and physiotherapist, and asked to try again. I made it from one end of the corridor to the other by pushing through the pain. When my therapist asked, I made it up the stairs at the end of that corridor. And when he asked me for more, I made it to the end of the hall at the top of those stairs. I got to go home to my own bed that weekend. If I hadn't seen this movie, I'd probably have had to take the long way around.
