Always loved Batman being dead silent on the drive to the batcave. Refusing to answer her, like he's not human. It made his presence so much more weird & mysterious.
Best Batmobile, Best Looking Batman suit, Best musical score, Hottest Bat Babe, Best Batman movie ending, This movie was THE ABSOLUTE BEST MOVIE to come out before the end of best Decade! 1989 Batman is still the best Batman movie in my opinion.
@@TendingGarden Though I love both 89 and Returns, the sequel just edges it in terms of a scene-stealing Danny DeVito, an equally scene-stealing Michelle Pfeiffer, and the dark atmosphere. Returns was also the last great Batman film before Batman Begins came along in 2005.
Everyone mentions about how badass this Batmobile was, but let's not forget how the Joker's goons vehicles were painted nicely in Joker's iconic colors. ;)
With all these modern batman movies that have come out, sometime I forget just how great michael Keaton was as batman. He really set the standard for the character on the big screen.
One of the most painful movies ever is "Man of Steel." It is just one long fighting sequence against a guy who Superman can't seem to hurt at all. Batman 1989 was perfect, and had slow scenes where they built up suspense and let your senses rebuild for the next scene. Modern superhero movies are way too action heavy and don't have enough art.
I can remember being 7 yrs old when this came out. My parents took me to the movies to see it. When Batman said “get in the car” and she says “which one?” And you see that cockpit open up. My jaw dropped. Such a badass car and to this day is the best batMobile in my opinion. Best Batman movie as well.

Imagine a horror Batman movie... Something like Arkham Asylum but Crane's fear toxin would be scarrier and it would be in a movie of course (but I would only agree on it if Crane would look either like a badass or like a horror villain, not like that dude from DK trilogy who looks like he's going on a Halloween party...)
This is the greatest batmobile scene of all time without a doubt, due in no small part to Danny Elfman's score. When you see that beast of a car speeding like a bullet and you hear the turbine rocket sound and the music PURE EPICNESS it is just damn perfect. I get goosebumps..... Best Batmobile period. Best Batman period. Best Bruce Wayne.
I love this scene! My favorite part! The batmobile, the forest, the music theme, everything is just straight up badass! Love how he pressed on that gas like i better hurry, she talkin hahaha 🤣
Well the good thing about this movie and the Superman movie is, they didn't have to concentrate on a wider universe, stupid in jokes and hints at future characters, they simply concentrated on making this movie as best as they could. Plus the theme of Keaton's Batman and comic book Gotham, look a million miles from the Reeve Superman universe
Tim Burton and danny elfman are geniuseseses. The way the music coincides with her asking “where are we going?” The music erupts, the shot of his foot pressing on the peddle and the batmobile amped and going aggressive is just gold. Ga-damn i love this entire sequence.

When I saw this at the theatre, when this scene appeared, the audience started screaming like teenage girls watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show . . . and I’m on their side! 👍
"Descent into Mystery" is my fav scene in the whole film. There is just one line of dialogue but the scene captures the the bravado, mystery and how majestic Batman really is. The score Elfman provides on top of the visuals done by Burton and the Batmobile really capsulate all that is Dark Knight.
I will always prefer the fantasy, fairy tale world that Batman existed in the 80s and 90s movies. I know since the 2000s to present day it's been more popular to do a "realistic" Batman, but the character is about as realistic as James Bond. There's nothing realistic about a dude that jumps off a building with nothing but a rope and cape, fights multiple bad guys, and hardly ever sprains an ankle or bruises up. He's a fake, fictional character, and I personally think he's more fun in the fantasy surreal world of the 80s and 90s Bat flicks.
That and also at 3:09 when he starts to press the gas pedal down even more and that “whirring” sound comes up. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always thought it was cool and just added to this batmobiles coolness.
@@Mr.Jx. I'd say Nolan's was darker and depressing and not as entertaining. The original Burtonverse movies were action packed and a lot more exciting.
Imagine filming on the second unit with no CGI and just knowing, KNOWING, that with Danny Elfman’s score added post production that this scene would be epic
Now that’s how u profoundly highlight and put emphasis on the Batmobile. The choir humming/theme music, the rural area open road, the darkness, the mystery, the roaring of the fireball engine, the speed, and the dynamics of the vehicle. Outstanding!
The reason why it's called Tumbler is because that's the name the military gave it as it was initially a military vehicle. The military aren't gonna call their new weaponised bridging vehicle Batmobile.
They apparently designed it to look like a bat but it was sort of a subtle wink and not necessarily intentional in-universe. Kind of like how Hathaway Catwoman's "ears" are just part of her night vision goggles and not really ears. Tbh I miss the days when Batman movies didn't have to be completely practical and you could still have people dressed up in crazy outfits with no logical explanations.
@randomguy9777 So, does the 60's Batmobile also have no identity as its just a concept car the studio repainted for the Adam West series? Does The Batman Batmobile have no identity as its a simpler design with no gadgets? Does the Batman Forever Batmobile have no identity either as its a similar design as the 1989 version but with a more organic aesthetic and a bigger wing. Saying the Tumbler has no identity because it's militaristic is not a reasonable criticism. It's actually a strength as it makes The Tumbler unique compared to previous iterations of the vehicle.
@randomguy9777 The reason for The Tumblers militaristic look is that it makes sense in the Story for Bruce to have such a strong vehicle. It being a failed military project that was kept in storage. I personally just find it a really cool looking vehicle that let's anyone know what the Dark Knight trilogy is, Batman in the real world fighting real crime. I also have huge respect for how powerful the Tumbler was behind the scenes, actually being able to withstand jumps and smash though solid walls and still drive afterwards.
Batman 89 was the first film I ever saw in the cinema, still a huge batman fan and collector. This sequence was my favorite, always has been but now nearly 32 years later, watching this again, all I can think is "which one", seriously Vicki it's the big black car with batwings on the back directly in front of you, gawd.
I've always loved this Bat mobile!! Looks like a larger Version on a Corvette with a jet engine & large fender-wells! Jus beautiful peace of art! There's a replica made by guy in Chicago! Has a real jet engine In the back & a V-12 engine!! 7 liter or more?! & can turn around on a installed stabilizer/stand.

This bat mobile had it all. high speed turn anchor cable. Turn table, machine guns, shields, voice enabled auto-drive, emergency torpedo mode, axle bombs, shin smashing pylons.
How cool is fuking Batman?! No deep thundering stupid voice, no tough guy act, just cold as ice in his supreme efficiency and deadly looking with his self reliance; total lone wolf. The guy is calm and cool like a bloody Vulcan lol, he built that car himself and is the worlds most brilliant engineer! Bad dude, son.
It takes 1989 Batman to probably save the world in the new flash movie. Thats right the 80s will always rule. Keaton and Reeve are the gold standard. No disrespect to others but those two actors made us all believe we could strive to always do right.
One of the reasons why the WB always fails in working on the next Batman movie because they lose their souls ... we all know that the animation effect on the Batmobile is very rough, but that is precisely what makes me love this Batman Keaton movie and always waiting for the next film...thanks for being my childhood superhero keaton...♥️♥️♥️
Loved this version of the Batmobile when I was a kid!! The BatWing was pretty darn cool too! Remember Micro-Machines? I vaguely remember having the Bat set of vehicles.
