That was lovley Sean, I remember watching the first part with Bill several years ago. I stumbled across this after I was watching Lou Reed's perfect day and remembering how apt it was when the dogs were barking along to the tune. It nearly tore out my heart out hearing it. Thank you for posting it. I remember meeting you at a gig many years ago in Brisbane. You were lovely and down to earth. I'm now an Artist/art coordinator here helping young and upcoming artists. Of course that means I make no money but I am extremely happy with 4 cats, 3 dogs, 4 birds, goldfish and a long suffering husband who I love to bits.I hope you are having a great life and I would love it if you wrote another book as I really enjoy your books.xo Karen

I'm getting lots of Sean stuff since he died, all of it now coloured in some way by the Guardian article by Michael Hann. It's not the obituary, but it may as well be. I don't know why it is that such articles are written, as if the subject were truly awful, irredeemably awful. The line that turns such a piece from honest assessment to character assassination is "It needs to be remembered that Sean was not the..." Why does it need to be remembered? And why did you wait till he was dead to say your piece, presumably for money, in a major daily newspaper?

Nx Doyle I read that Guardian piece as well - all is not what it seems with Sean as with most celebrities - I genuinely don't think any harm was done after all it's not as if he turned out to be a mass murderer.I still have a soft spot for him though and luckily saw him on three tours before he died.

Nx Doyle Please don't let that colour your opinion of Sean. It was a truly horrible piece, the publication of which was deeply upsetting to those of us who really knew Sean (not who just hung about with him a bit years ago, and was clearly cut out of Sean's life for good reason - he was a very good judge of character and presumably cottoned onto the fact that this guy was the sort of 'friend' who would settle some sort of score for money within hours of his death), and reading about this supposed sad and lonely character whilst deep in grief and in shock from being with him when he died (so much for the lonely bit) made a truly devastating time even harder. I knew Sean for 12 years, and the man I knew was not someone I recognised in that article. He was a human being, and we are all complicated, but he was also a very kind, gentle one full of heart and lightness.

@@revol148 You are naive to think malicious articles like the one written are harmless. Does Sean Hughes have to show every aspect of himself all the time? It would be strange and rather suspicious (not to say tedious) if he was just a ball of supposed sweetness and light 24/7 and did not have complexity of personality. His beauty, physical and psychological, is evident in this programme and it means everything to me and to many others who love this man that he directs his great capacity for affection towards those that really deserve it and not quack journos like m hann. Clearly, Sean Hughes had him sussed. God Bless you , Sean xxx

@@stellaboulton4664 Tell me Stella do you ever find yourself liking (and defending) people you've never even met and if you do isn't that the real issue here? ".....his beauty, physical and psychological" - you speak as if you were a close friend of member of the family. Of course Hughes didn't need to be on public display 24/7 but I'm always interested in the other (almost always darker) side to the public face that is seen and one which sells gig tickets, books, commissions for T.V programmes etc.

@@revol148 of course an honest obituary is better than a hagiography, and kinder for people who admire a public figure. what's interesting to me is that the guardian article was actually published before Sean Hughes' funeral happened. that's a very quick turnaround.
