I tried looking for abandoned stations in the comfort of my own home, thought I found one, but after research it turned out to just be the airing cupboard. It did explain why they were storing a lot of towels in an abandoned station I must admit!

The point about lack of information online stimulated me to go to Amazon and find myself a copy of the classic "London Railways" by Dr Edwin Course (Batsford 1962, not the later book of photos with a similar title). I read it 40 years ago and also remember hand copying the wonderfully detailed map, in the days before photocopiers. Edwin Course also wrote the excellent and comprehensive 3-volume series on the Railways of Southern England in the 1970s. He provides much more information about individual station architecture and locality, lineside features etc than the David and Charles Regional History series without the need to buy multiple booklets covering individual lines.

Passing through Battersea on the bus last week I noticed the '90s sign and, taking a photo of the Dogs Home entrance, captured the arches without realising what they were. I feel like your video is saying "Here's what you missed", I love it! Looking at the photos I took of the power station's chimneys there was smoke coming out, again, I hadn't noticed it on the day. Fab! 😃👏👏👏

I kind of understand the joy of finding an abandoned train station - it happened to me too! Sadly, it was way too obvious, and sadly, it was a well known fact, but hey - I didn't know it was there so it still counts! There's an abandoned S-Bahn (kind of local train) station near Munich Olympic Stadium. It was serving traffic during Olympics in 1972, sporadically used for few more years, and then abandoned and slowly falling apart. Yet, you can still visit it, and you can follow track bed in both directions. 48.17901081943614, 11.539207832064125

5:05 - someone had the brains, when the power station was turned into flats - “it got 4 chimneys in each corner - put gas condenser boilers under this one and exhaust them out of it, this one can have the HVAC exhaust expelled out of it.....” they were repurposing them 😉

Great video. I clocked those arches recently as I am fairly sure they were hidden away, or have been refurbished and I actually rather assumed that they were imitation but clearly not. I also recently discovered that the beginning of Queenstown Road has its rather wonky shape thanks to the Battersea Tangle. When building the Parktown Estate (now the Diamond Conservation Area), the trainlines came along as ground was being broke and made the whole thing a little more complicated, hence why you have the curve by Queenstown Road station rather than what would have been a straightish line from Chelsea Bridge Road.

Haverstock Hill is a great one. I don't know if it is visible from street level, but from the train you can see where the old staircase that led from street level to the platform has been bricked up. Just look to your left as your train exits Belsize tunnel (assuming you are on an EMR service using the fast lines, otherwise look out to the right). If you exit Belsize tunnel on the slow lines there is a little section of the platform left.

I presumed I was just getting to imaginative and ignored it for several years until visiting the local aviation museum I discovered they were intact left from a branch line that uniquely went down the middle of a residential road from the main line to the airport!
