That's 2 in Scotland within months of each other and 22 (AYE, TWENTY TWO) killed in a lithium battery plant in South Korea this week. Would you be happy to have the factory on your back door??
The crimes may be recognised one day. Just not yet. They might be waiting for as certain amount of these toxic fires before the authorities do something.
Of course the authorities will just put it down to an inconvenient accident and nothing to see here. Net zero will be achieved even if there are no people left to notice!

The pics does not show the intensity of the fire , the width of the smoke standing looking at it , the noise , the bangs like thousands and thousands of fireworks going off , the billowing smoke with silver pieces in the air flashing up , thick was in full force in latter stages of second half of Scotland game , thankfully wind blowing it east but not so good for those in that direction although it was high enough up to not engulf nearby homes , an earlier fire like this was in kilwinning and close to houses too and they want to build more battery areas near homes ? , they can f o , with that idea , nimby

Can residents sue the company (or government) when in a few months or years the results of that toxic air pollution show up in illness, cancer, and death?

If you can smell a lithium ion fire you are getting a dangerous dose. People who had physically undamaged cars from Luton still have not been allowed to collect them because they are contaminated.
@@jasoneldridge4738 Exactly, you could rub diesel soot on you and let it sit for a day and wash it off and be right as rain. Soot from a battery car fire just a tiny bit on your arm and you could die in the hospital in 4 days with all the help they could give you.
This is how EV battery recycling plants get rid of the back log, they seem to be doing this a lot now. And the recycling plants always seem to be by residential property.
They do not try to put fires out because of the runoff pollution mess and the danger to the firefighters. The policy is to contain and basically let the building incinerate itself polluting the atmosphere.
Another 100 + BESS farms gave been approved by SNP despite local objections. Including one on Millport along with solar power farm. These battery farms are NOT required to get a HSE risk assessment done as the SNP described these lithium boms as " articles" to avoid having to involve HSE . This country is fukked

My brother sent me a video as he stays very close to the recycling plant and the smoke and continued explosions was incredible , really think they need to rethink how they store and recycle these batteries or there will be many more of these fires and probably fatalities. Let’s face it the government are pushing us down this route whether we like it or not . ps I would rather stick with my ICE honda CRV .
Didn't this also happen in an industrial estate in Ayrshire a month or two ago? It was difficult to find out what was going on, then it was impossible.
That is ECO smoke guys, no worries🤦🏻. This happened only a couple of months ago to another battery facility. All those batteries with all that power pent up inside and it will burn until it is spent.

I still can’t believe they keep pushing EVs that use huge lithium ion batteries when they don’t have effective methods to put out any fires that occur! I race radio control cars that use similar batteries. We have to charge them in special bags & have buckets of sand around the site. We also store them in a partially discharged state in ex military ammunition tins! These batteries have only 1 or 2 cells, not many thousands like EV battery packs do!
I have lithium polymer (lipo) batteries in some RC planes and drones ... they're vicious little things if they pop. Tons of energy stored in them, and the amount of smoke is ridiculous - not to mention that you can't stop them combusting with water. Oh and they fit in the palm of your hand. God knows how big these ones in the factories are.
Thr plume from this came right over Bearsden. It darkened the sky and a pretty horrible smell. On the same day, 22 people died in Korea in a lithium battery storage facility fire.
Just if anyone still has any doubts just look at the devastation caused to a battery factory in South Korea over 20 deaths and some people still missing and some idiots want us to put our family in one of these time bombs.
Wonder how much of a dent all of the battery, battery factory, recycling plants, etc. fires make in the "circular economy" hopes. Building a toxic material handling facility next to a residential neighborhood sounds reckless.

These plumes are so toxic and carcinogenic, that one would want to avoid it like they would a radiation fallout cloud. Treat is like an instant-death cloud.
It's not just when the fire is burning that the pollution problem exists, it's the "fallout" - the pollution the settles and is maybe taken into the food-chain. It's not even only humans that this could/will affect: what about all the wildlife!
If just one person dies as a result of these fire I will expect the Mayor of London to ban them completely or change them £1000 a day to go into London.
Well mate you have got to feel for those poor locals and more so for the fire fighters who have to brave this ever present problem with these battery fires. These facilities should be placed a long way and I mean a LONG WAY from any habitation or water sources that will be used for providing potable water to the general public because the run off is incredibly toxic to any form of life that is going to be contaminated by these chemical residues which are probably going to have a very long half life time in the environment.
A few months ago there was a massive fire in a scrap yard near Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire caused by a single cell lithium battery in a disposable vape. The fire service said it was the most common cause of fires in scrap yards. Image the damage which an EV battery with thousands of cells can do. They are not environmentally friendly.
The only fire more difficult to put out is a nuclear fire. Fire service are only there to put a show on as there is not way to extinguish a lithium fire until it has exhausted all the fuel, so battery cells. Fires services do not attempt to put out an electric car fire because they know they can’t. It’s a just let it burn but not damage any other property situation.
I remember a few years ago we had HGV loaded with batteries going to be recycled the driver stopped at a service station to pick up a coffee and paper when he returned to his vehicle it was a bliase he had run around waking other drivers of the danger of explosion luck guy
