In this VS episode I will compare the gravimetric and volumetric energy density and the price of lead acid, NiMH, Li-Ion and LiPo batteries with one another. I will also talk about how dangerous each battery type can be and what kind of battery you should get for your next project.

I had it in mind for a long time but I was wondering is it actually safe/recommended to run electricity through a permament magnet? I couldn't find anything about anyone even attempting to do so on the internet so I figured there is some issue I am not aware of (and that is probably too obvious to even mention it), hence noneones uses it this way and was the reason why I couldn't find anything. Could someone shed some light?

I think the magnets have a moderate 0.5-2 ohm resistance which makes them okay for charging small batteries

Making use of the ru-vid.comUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type

You might also want to consider operational temperature for charging and discharging. For instance, in an outdoor installation in cold weather a NiMH will probably win at all times.

If the test would have been conducted with a 1C discharge rate, the LiPo would have been the incontestable winner because of it's low internal resistance. What more, after years, the internal resistance of lithium batterie do not increase as much as other technologies. For those two reasons, after a while, the winner in each categories (even the price) is the LiPo for a high power device as an eBike :) Nice video, usefull informations !

In terms of charge cycles, Lead Acid is weird in that there are 2 types of batteries with different ratings. "Deep Cycle" batteries are made from solid pieces of lead and can be fully charged and discharged many times, whereas "Starting Lighting and Ignition" batteries are made of lead sponge and can degrade rapidly if fully discharged

+kingknut icr, inr, imr all meaningless really, as no standardisation amongst all manufacturers in this regard. High discharge "li-po" in an 18650 package are being called "Ii-ion", and low discharge "li-ion" in a soft pouch is still "li-ion".. Go figure!!
@LazerLord10

***** Well, they're good for RC transmitters because they're low power, and don't need to be set at a storage voltage. Like all batteries, they're fit for a specific purpose.
@CAv-lp2qk
@CAv-lp2qk 7 лет назад
Unless their from certain online hobby store... Their cheaper transmitter packs have been known to puff when left charged.. Probably reject cells rebranded, might have a tiny bit of iron in the recipe so marketing calls em "li-fe".. ni-mh Eneloops are great for tx's

This was a great introductory video, clear and concise. Having all that extra info and comparing all those extra characteristics would make the video too long. Sure, they are useful but after this introductory video the user can go and research those extra parameters on it's own after it has narrowed down it's battery selection.

This is really a good way to look at battery power. I use 18650 type cells due to there energy. Lead acid batteries can be dangerous as well. When charging they give off hydrogen gas, that can explode if there is a spark, plus they contain lots of lead and sulfuric acid, so not really the safest option. The 18650 can be dangerous, but as long as you are careful with them, they can really be useful. They are getting safer everyday and they are getting more out of them as well. I look forward to seeing just how much better they can get.
