I’ve been playing for about 20 hours myself and I got to say I truly love it I think the games does an amazing job to keep you in tune in .. I has a mixture of Diablo in Final fantasy.. and a comic book feel too is well truly amazing game...Great job on the review
Although I couldn't push through the whole of I Am Setsuna last year, in spite of great visuals and a poignant story, I made my peace with jrpgs and turn-based combat with this very game, which is definitely amongst the ones I've enjoyed the most in 2018. As your pointed out, it sometimes can get just a tad dull to go through basically the same combat over and over, but it doesn't tarnish an otherwise fantastic experience. The cutscenes, in particular, are perfectly animated, and the dialogues are freaking hilarious! Once I found out talking to the bartender triggered a cutscene, I started coming back to town in joyous anticipation! Great review for a great game!
I never used to be a fan of turn based RPG’s, but I was willing to give them another try due to my love of Divinity original sin 2 and I must say I’m absolutely loving this game
SwitchUp I've check out reviews for games I'm interested in, but I haven't left a Comment in awhile. I'm very impressed with this new level of quality! I'll be watching more reviews from you guys for sure!
As a comic book reader, I'm a huge fan of Joe Mad. Been holding off on this until it drops a bit in price but watching your review, makes me think I should nab this. Also how beautiful is the cut scenes? So so lovely!
Just ordered this game and South Park Fractured But Whole for Switch. So many fun looking RPGs and side scrollers for the Switch. Glad I finally got one.
I just picked this up off Amazon for $11.00 USD. A little Christmas present to myself. I grew up playing the old school turn based JRPG's, Like, FF, Grandia, Dragon Quest, Breath of Fire, etc. Think this will be exactly what I need to scratch that old school turn based RPG itch. I love the comparisons to Diablo one of my more recent favorites. Thanks for the great review. I hope they keep making games like this. They feel like they are rapidly getting harder to find.
Great review man! I don’t think your thoughts were too far off from my review. I enjoyed the strategic combat too. I just didn’t like the grind or found it worth diving into for everyone aside from old-school RPG fans. I’m glad you enjoyed it a lot! The game really has such great high points, and it’s great to hear you say them!!
Sounds great! I’ll be traveling the next few weekends so if for some reason I don’t send an email, feel free to email me. Address is on my about page. Looking forward to it man! :)
Awesome review, very detailed and polished. Just ordered the game from Walmart for $23.71, I love RPGs and JRPGs are my favs so this is the perfect game for my switch collection. Also, subbed. 👍🏼
Calil West's - Gaming & Growth Channel Thanks for the positive feedback. This is a very different game. Wizard of Legend is a fast paced action roguelike, whereas this is a slower paced old school RPG style. I haven't played WOL yet, but it looks good, however I know this game is great. This is more expensive though! Sorry, I haven't helped at all there have I? Mark
As Switch Up said, I don't think it's fair to compare these two games. It's like asking "which one is better? Mario Kart or Mortal Combat" The game is a amazing RPG but I don't think you can really compare it to Wizard of legends.
people already saying it is too much grinding and i really do not understand. I have played almost every ff game and i can say this game has way less grinding. I remember unlocking all in ffx took me like 160 hours doing it also the fastest way possible.Noone qqed, but gamers nowdays are way too casuals and dislike the idea of a good grinding rpg gameplay
thomas gatsios Couldn't agree more. By it's very nature a turn based RPG can feel grindy. Here you at least (usually) can avoid combat if you want - I never do. Many people don't seem to understand that these games require perseverance and sometimes you can't just do everything right from the get go. Great game but some poor reviews out already in my opinion. Which is a shame. Mine is not the best by any stretch, but I grew up playing these games at least. Glad you enjoy the game mate, it's great! Mark
Nahh bro that's your opinion, Final Fantasy series is garbage for encouraging ridiculous amounts of grinding, and this is my opinion after playing though 7, 9 and 10. Games are supposed to be fun, not a chore.
@@SeeFoodDie yea, about 6 hours in right now. Love the art style and humor. It is very much a turn based dungeon crawler. If you are into that, it is great.
I love this game so much, even said so out loud accidentally last night; my wife wasn’t impressed! Not Grundy at all, proceeding through the story without having to purposely grind; doing all dungeons on legendary for that extra challenge and XP
I like your style of reviews. Watched a bunch and they give a good overview of the gameplay and enough details to decide whether or not to get a game. Also having different subsections is helpful. A few things I did not like: - arbitrary rating scale. Why a scale of 20, where 10 is the norm which isn’t used to the full extent anyhow. - why an overall rating up to 100%. Stick to the scale you use for the singular ratings, no need to use a different one. Again I think it’s granularity isn’t meaningful. Is 91% that much better than 88%? - specifically for this review a 19/20 for story is way to much. It’s a pretty generic RPG story. It did not hook me at all, compared to something like Xenoblade which should be 30/20 on your scale.
Krys Jerzy the 20s add up to 100 to give a percentage score at the end. I know it's not for everyone, but we just grew up with percentage scores at least we can somehow justify one game being "better" than another. Really appreciate your feedback though, we will have a think. Mark
I have this game on the xbox one x and it's a great game!!!! Reminds me of the golden age when turn based rpg games were great with depth and excellent music. The only thing I didnt like was the leveling up is so slow, the characters do little damage and the battles are really slow in this game but other than it's a great game. Mite double dip and get the physical edition as I was originally waiting for this game on the switch but it took forever so I bought it on xbox.
Mike G Glad you loved it as well. Early RPGs were always a touch grinding, but I felt you were rewarded enough with new abilities to make it fun here. Good times! Mark
Thought about this after picking up issues 10 & 11 of the comic which just returned after 25 years! Digital version is on sale for the next 10 days on Nintendo's site. I'm thinking about getting it, but need to know if you can turn off the rumble. I have an old injury that vibration irritates.
Anyone who's played both this game and Octopath Traveler can tell me which one you enjoyed more? I know they aren't exactly the same type of game except for the turn-based combat but which did you like better as far as stories go and the combat systems, character development, skills, difficulty, immersion? Thanks.
What a great review... refreshing to see and you just got yourself a new sub!!! When everspace finally comes to switch please review that and I'm staying
SwitchUp it's just been delayed but nothing further mentioned as yet. I finally gave in and got a switch over new years and just finished my first ever zelda so along with nba and rayman I have been looking for something else decent to play that isn't one of those megadrive looking games that seems to be the only thing out at the moment. Everspace and battle are top of my list but I know we have E3 soon so fingers crossed a few announcements will be coming, thanks for the reply and I'll be following the channel I really liked the review style, great to have proper insight with explanations and enthusiasm over other big name company reviewers I'll leave nameless!
Consider SUBSCRIBING for àll things Switch, all the time. No other distractions (Unless you hate The Switch...then don't do that, it would be an error) His, If you loved Final Fantasy 7 this will be one you enjoy! Great game! Picking it up? Mark
FGXraven It's a lovely game, really recommend it, hope you enjoy the review my friend. I'm making a new Rocket League video that will be out tomorrow! Will be recording later if you're online! Mark
i dont complain about grinding i play warframe on my switch and i put no money into the game with over 500 hours and i still play it this game looks nice tbh
Hmm. I have it for free ok Xbox Pass but thinking it might be a great portable for Switch. On sale for $20. My concern is if this game runs poorly on switch like long load times and frame rate issues?
Hope the subscriber base keeps on rising, also love the way you review games. It's pretty unique which is a hard thing to find on RU-vid nowdays. Looking forward to your MUA3 review!
I enjoyed my short time in this game. 12 hours or so. I decided to read the comic and moved on. I used this game to try and delve into turned based games again, but still couldn’t keep my hooked. I love action based RPGs.
Kirsteen Lockwood It's very easy to pick up. There is some depth to the combat, but again it's all explained well and very easy to pick up. Unlike Xenoblade 2, which while an amazing game, has an incredibly deep combat system that remains mostly unexplained. Hope this helps. Mark
Hi SwitchUp, thanks for the nice review. But this game only have this 5 characters to use? Normally I expect for this kind of game to have more than 5 that can be used. This factor might be a drawback for the enjoyment.
Alexander John G. Choi Yep, not a huge roster here. I would still consider this particularly if you're buying physically. You can get it for around £22. Regards, Mark
Good review, though it seems like you're not actually that far in or have finished the game. I feel like finishing or at least getting deeper into the story and progression would be a good idea, when doing a review. That said, it's a good review and one I mostly agree with everything said. Just feel maybe there's something of an obligation to play most of at least the main game when one is doing a review, so as to be able to give a good perspective on the title as a whole, and not just part of it.
Phillip Forrest Yeah it's always tough I played around 13 hours but I'm naturally one of those people who tries to get everything so go slow. Taken on board though. Mark
SwitchUp Yeah. I'm 42 hours in, and I'd say from what I can tell, I'm at about 70-75% of the main story and about 90% of the character progression? So I just feel like maybe 15-20 hours is a bit short playtime for a review of the game as a whole, though I do agree with all the main points and feel the review gave a pretty good feel for the game overall despite not having played through.
SwitchUp Absolutely. Just thought I'd mention something that came to mind while watching, as someone who's also playing the game, and thought the review was otherwise well done.
@@morpheus1345 Oh sorry, i myself like the game. But in my opinion a lot more people would've probably played this with a diablo-ish gameplay. Just to make it more streamline, I guess.
SwitchUp yea $40 for a year old game thats $20 or less everywhere else is unnaceptable to me and if this practice continues my switch will further collect dust. Portability was supposed to be the difference maker for the switch. So far the only difference it has made is more expensive games.
I remember seeing this comic in college and thinking how fucking amazing it was. But they just stopped making them for some reason. I think the author lost interest.
my biggest dislike about he game is the story. while yeah its not bad kinda long between story cues....i mean like hours between. It feels slow and dosn't engage you to really keep pushing through. But that's not why i don't like the story. Its more to do with the fact that if you didn't read the comic you have no clue who these guys are and even reading the comic which i did the comic does nothing to make you care about the characters or tell you why they are important (the only thing I learned is that Aramus (according to gully's older brother wasnt as good as he is said to be). I would have preferred if they started from the beginning and told the story from the beginning of the short lived comic. im still going to try and finish the game but I find with a lot of "new classic" games coming from western devs really fail on the character development....I'll include I am Setsuna in that group also. In the end if you aren't a feverish fan of the comic when you start your like ok why should i care about these guys and whats the back story.
The Jeidi Fair points. I actually really cared about the characters mainly due to their interactions with each other. I also agree with you though, compared to something like Final Fantasy 7, we have a long way to go. Still, I'm excited for the next game from this developer for sure. Mark
Fábio Nunes Well yes and yes but you can play this while doing a poo. So there you have it lol. I love the portability and in docked the game looks great. Handheld is slightly worse, but still fine for on the go adventuring or the train ride to work. Cheers. Mark
yeah it looks a perfect game to have on the switch but i really love the visuals on this game so im kinda in doubt if it was a lot worse than the ps4 vesion i would rather get it for the ps4 to enjoy the improved visuals lol. thx for answering.
Any Rocket League players on Switch? Add me - SW-0323-0902-0144 - I will be making a video tonight if you're online, would be great to get a few games! 7.30pm GMT onwards. Mark
