This video is fantastic and I want to really thank you for making it. It's so helpful. I'm not even sure you realize how well you made this. The breakdown at the beginning and then analyzing different faction units against other factions was incredibly helpful
He literally changed how I view the game, his campaign guide effectively eliminated everything I was doing wrong in the campaign xD Great videos, thank you for the effort!
Oh my god, finally a total war warhammer combat tutorial on the fucking internet! And a very well done tutorial might I add. I hope you'll post many more tips and strategies for many days to come...
this is my first Total War game...and even though i love strategy games...i absolutely suck at the battles in this game will be watching this video a lot thank you!
same here but i used to play rome 1 total war all da controls be different and the armys are so much biga AND THERES NO "go over there...kill everything that gets in the way" BUTTON
3:46 “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.” -Sun Tsu
Really nice tutorial and very amusing! I'm spanish and I've recently taken the B2 exam. I'm glad I laugh with your jokes, as it means I know a bit of English at least.
Video is still helping people learn in 2024. Thank you 🙏 helping me not give up on warhammer. Such a cool universe and I want to dive in regardless of how bad I am. ❤
Yo! Incase you haven't figured it out yet, if you put your battle line or whatever you want into a locked group, they will all move at the same speed, ex. trolls and chaos marauders.
Oh my God thank you, you explained everything I needed to help me understand match ups and army composition that I've never quite grasped so well! Very well presented and structured, and you communicated everything so clearly it all now clicks. Thanks for the awesome instructional, liked and subscribed!
Zerkovich, this Beginner's Guide series should be the official Total War tutorial. It's taken me from having no idea what I'm doing, to feeling like a real strategist on the battlefield. Great work!
The level of play and understanding astounds me, Ive been watching lots of your content since I stumbled upon this channel and it's amazing. Keep it up!
Thank you SO much for making all these guides, you made them AGES ago but I still think it's worth it to say. All of these guides were so helpful for me as I suck pretty bad at this game XD.
I always come back to this playlist after spending some time away from total war warhammer. It's a great quick bootcamp refresher for tatics and what formation keybindings do what. Love it.
in the fight with chaos vs empire, you had alot of smaller fights going 3v2 and 2v1 where you just clicked engage enemy army instead of flanking around and getting the surround :).. other then that.. a very good structured guide for people new to the total war franchise :)
Man this game has a steep learning curve indeed. Now that I have put about 20 hours in (my first total war game) I have gotten down much of the basics and at this point I can see your vids helping soooooo so much on getting to the next level of really wrecking this game. I have a friend who has been trying to get me into this series for ever and now I'm finally hooked lol. I can see myself putting thousands of hours into this game and its squeal.
Great guide dude, this info is soo usefull for me. First total war game, i was completly lost about a lot of this stuff. Thanks a lot and cheer from Argentina!
Thanks so much for this. Just having this information about how units match up against one another is a huge help. Video was well made and easy to follow too.
Sir, your videos are simply great! Awesome narration, accessible, information packed and dare I say, humorous ;) Been playing the Total War since I can remember but was always very bad at them - time to change this thanks to your advice. Thanks and all the best mate!
just started getting into warhammer because i saw the new one coming out, so i've stared with the first one. dude, you're a fucken lifesaver. its all obvious commonsense stuff but without knowing the basics im getting my ass kicked. you just saved me months of trial by error and many late nights. also, although she doesnt know it, my wife wont be getting pissed off at her man sleeping in late every morning- so she thanks you too :)
I'd probably be lost without your beginner guides- it's probably why I was never able to get into total war games. Only one I really liked was Medieval 2, and even in that one, I mostly used auto resolve.
You forgot to tell them to strike with the pointy end! Otherwise, great tutorial for new peeps. And if anyone has any Lore questions, I have played TT off and on for nearly 3 decades and love talking Warhammer XD
I'm actually like Mr Anti-Magic thanks to Dark Souls haha so I don't use it much. I should... but I just dislike it haha. So I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm sure someone has a guide on it probably. And thanks! :D
I've bought and played every TW, but the battles have always been overwhelming. Especially late game. I've tried not to hit the auto-resolve button with Warhammer as the battles are just too cool. But with the numerous new elements introduced, like magic, large and flying it seems even worse! (I found Rome 2 the easiest as they really simplified the unit variety) The in game tutorials have always sucked, the online unreliable encyclopedia has become useless. And with nothing but lets play's out there information is hard to come by. So thanks for taking the time and please keep them coming.
really helpful thanks. But this is why I sometimes get annoyed at online players who are nagging people to ready up so quickly as they dont give you time to analyse troops
Almost done with the game. Started my 2nd campaign and don't know what my available options for growth are. Without knowing a basic structure of what I'm supposed to be doing, it's frustrating. Shame as I would love to get over the learning curve
Thanks! I was wondering if unit formation has any bearing on combat. I noticed with archers, 2 rows deep and have them long covers a wider area, but what about calvaries and melee units? The battle video information and the movement information has really upped my game.
Good stuff. I'm not too sure in this game yet actually. If you have them in a long line, more of them will potentially engage in combat quicker, so do more damage quicker, but also take more damage quicker. Other than that I'm not sure there is a huge difference with depth.
I know I'm a bit late to the series, but since the announcement of Total War: Troy and news of Total War Warhammer e being delayed, I've been looking at the Total War: Warhammer series, and I have a question; Should I just wait for 3 to come out, or is there a benefit to playing 1 and 2 before 3, such as storyline or bonuses?
I've never liked any total war game past like medieval 2 because they never did Calvary right. Even shock Calvary felt like wet noodles against even the cheapest and most lightly armored levy infantry. This game seems like they finally fixed that. They've made artillery super strong, and Calvary feel meaty and heavy. The only thing that i don't like is that melee units shred through each other a lot faster than they used to.
I am playing the empire campaign, in fact i haven't played any other campaign besides a little bit of Bretonnia. But my question is this: is empire infantry capable of beating any other infantry? I think everytime they go 1 on 1 against any other infantry unit they will always lose, against dwarves I lost, against orks I lost, against other empire factions I lost. So is this a matter of the AI or is that the empire infantry will never beat nobody and will always need help from cavalry or missile units?
Hahahah. To a degree, yes the Empire infantry suck and are maybe a bit too underpowered at present. BUT, they're not meant to be great. The strength of the Empire is in their Cavalry and Artillery. Those things need to support that infantry. Most Empire infantry isn't Armour Piercing so will always struggles against Dwarfs. Greenskins have great Frontline killing power, so they can be difficult to withstand for anyone. But yeah, mostly that infantry needs support. Soften dangerous units up with Artillery and Missiles. Then Hammer & Anvil them in the back once they've engaged your Frontline. They best hope of having infantry that'll hold well, is probably Flagellants. I personally usually use a Frontline of them if I play Empire online or anything.
so i am quite new to total war games and was wondering how to go about building an army to defeat a specific army. for example i usually try to make a melee centre of 3 to 4 units, one or two spear units on either side. one or two cav units on each outer wing. and some ranged up front that i move back later. now this works really well for most balanced armies or armies that are smaller. but yesterday i got attacked by a greenskins army made up of (i kid you not) 3 units of arrer boys and 16 units of ork boys. i had no idea what to do against them. my ranged units did wittle down some units but the ork boys outnumbered my melee fighters with so much that i was just overwhelmed. how do i go about these weird army compositions. do i run from them and mix up my army? i am playing empire by the way
First off, Awesome video! Helped SOOO SOOO MUCH! Quick few questions. First, what category are hero units in? Melee, large or in their own unique one? Trying to figure out if spears or swords are best to use against them. Another question, is the steam tank considered artillery/ranged or large/monster unit? BTW Please keep doing more of these vids delving into battle tactics and stats of the game!!
Thanks dudeski! Heroes and Lords are classed as whatever they're on. Feet, they're infantry. Horse, they're Cavalry. Wyvern, they're monster. I'm not 100% on that, but I think that's it. And steam tanks are considered more just a heavily armoured artillery I think. It's more about Armour piercing with that thing. Don't think Bonus vs. Large helps. And I plan on it!
At my first attempts to run melee units into missile units proved quite unsuccessful until i started to use fast flanking melee units to get behind the missilers THEN bumrushing them with regular melee units. Melts the missiliers away like butter on a grill XD But i only play Single Player Campaigne currently, it´s a bit harder ot always have the right unit available because i might not be able to build it due to lack of research/buildings. Question: if i cannot get my hands on Arty with AP, is arty with burn damage a useful alternative?
I have one simple question sir. Do You think it's better to often disband units and recruit new more suitable for current situation? As an example I'm, currently playing as Vampire Counts and I'm in turn 110. I own only 3 fully upgraded provinces because I still suck in battles even when I saw Your guides for many times. I'm at war with Dwarfs and Border Princes, Empire provinces don't like me and Chaos is on the march. I have 1 professional army and 3 armies full of skeletons. Economy is not a problem, I have 8k income and 300k in the bank.
Yes. If you have that kind of money, spend it on something! Build some exciting armies and use some tactics! Best way to learn the game. You learn literally nothing about the game overrun everyone with Skeletons haha, as fun as that may be. Especially when you have some cool ass units like Crypt Horrors, Vargeists and Ghouls!
Thanks! After war with Chaos, only Bretonia and Empire in Reikland still holds. Chaos did the work for me. I have defeated Chaos and colonized everything :D Still I have really big problems when fighting a real-time battle with Vampires, especially siege battles. I've played only as Dwarfs before and because I'm a big fan of heavy infantry, it was very easy for me on Hard difficulty. I will need to learn more from Your guides. They are amazing anyway! :)
