I was one of the haters back then, claiming "proudly" that it isn't part of the series. But after playing it again a few years ago, I realised it is just as good as the original trilogy.
I grew up playing these games. HoMM II was my first ever video game outside child learning games. I was playing II with my dad helping me back when I was 3 and didn’t really know what was going on, so I learned to read and count just to enjoy the games. Then III came along and I loved the hell out of that masterpiece. One day while at a neighbor’s place with my dad I noticed this yellow box sitting on his shelf and I was shocked because I hadn’t heard that there was a 4th game he let me borrow it, and while it wasn’t the same as what I was used to it was still fun. I have had so many memories with this series and I’m glad places like GoG exist so I can still play them even as computers keep advancing to the point these games would otherwise be obsolete and unplayable.
i've never heard more intensive battle theme than this one. Pure amaizing. You can feel a tension o battle like you are a true part of clash... Amaizing !!
Anytime I see this a tear falls over my cheek. I know homm 3 is the best heroes due to many reasons. But 4 is the first heroes I ever played and the one I most love
Dammit, this soundtrack sets the mood so perfectly. No other Heroes of Might and Magic OST can match this approach, even though ALL of them have amazing music.
Funnily enough, even though HoMM kinda blew its attempt to integrate the main series's sci-fi aspect (Armageddon's Blade was originally going to have a more high-tech town called Forge, which was a ham-fisted way to go about things), this track kinda feels like it would fit very well into a more science-fictiony HoMM game. You could imagine this playing while you move Cybergolems against the encroaching Kreegan Elite Guard.
While the fourth game had its flaws (all boiling down to lack of randomly generated maps), the music and campaigns were the best in the whole series. I can't understand why the game recieves so much flak
I can't understand why you're all saying about randomly generated maps. Yeah it was good, but only Heroes III Shadow of the death has it. Even Heroes III with armagedons blade haven't got this. Same with I,II,IV,V (i dont know what's with VI)
Myrth1 Myrth1 Why games received so much flak? There are couple of reasons: *Unbalanced gameplay- After few missions you usually end up fighting with just heroes- they are unkillable with few buffs and revival potions. Getting an army is also hard because towns give very little gold. *Less tactical combat- it's hard to predicts what your actions in combat will result- does your melee troops block line of sight to your archers? Will your mage have line of sight to cast a spell from that spot? If i move my unit here ill it block the path? Will the AoE spell have range with that other unit? It's all hard to predict with no-tile based combat. *Ugly graphics- overall quality is much lower than previous part. Especially towns are boring and very similar to each other. *Too few connections with previous part- world is completely different, no character from previous part is a hero of any campaign. *Heroes are very similar- no unique abilities, the only difference between classes is two starting skills. *Less engaging story- no animated cutscenes, and less engaging characters. Don't take me as a hater, HoMM4 had some interesting and good elements, but overally it's not as polished as previous part, and some new mechanics didn't really worked out. But music is awesome. I agree.
punio7 It sounds like you've played completely different game. Or never truly get deep into the mechanics. Or story. The only part that is true is the lack of cutscenes, since they've run out of production time
This is The best music track for final battle between Good and Evil. It makes me shudder hard. I even turn this track on sometimes in other games like HoMM3 or King's Bounty.
Still recal the first time my ears basked into this battle theme, when I was playing the Necropolis campaign with Galdoth the Half Dead (if memory serves)....n then I knew it was a fresh breeze from the undisputed HoMM champion part 3!
I see light and darkness in final battle People, swordsmans, pikemans, archers, mages, angels, dragons Undead, demons, the bad guys Nobody know, how its ends. Everyone have feel of lose, even if its mindless undead They just battle, battle for for light or dark God, its beatiful music
