So happy you're enjoying the game! By the way, Room 41-01 (room after beating Boss 2) has a secret to it. You almost found the secret by accident which would have been AMAZING but sadly, you just barely missed finding it. I don't recommend finding it if you're on Very Hard mode though as it's kinda....nuts. Doing this on Very Hard is insane tbh though. You got so far, however, all things considered!! Nice job Ryu. Thanks again for playing. I knew this game would be your kind of thing :) Whenever you're ready for Battle Kid 2, let me know ;) Also, there are some post-game stages but you need the Passwords to enter them. Playing on Very Hard though will grant you all the passwords at the end of the game, if memory serves me correctly! Btw, it was hilarious to see you bite the bullet in every place I expected you to. I am VERY excited to see you vs the 3rd boss. I am hoping your reaction is similar to mine when I first played it.

Extraordinariky easy games would be a great series. I'm introducing my kids to NES and I'd like some games where they can get past the first level themselves.

I'm not sure if this has any relation to 'I wanna be the guy' but the playable character gives me that vibe.

Very nice! I don't think I've ever seen this game, but it looks like classic NES game difficulty! 😅 I still dig these classic NES hard games as it really trains you to be patient and can be rewarding to overcome a hard obstacle! Ryu seems to be enjoying it, so I hope he keeps with it and makes another Battle Kid video!

If you are thinking about the speedruns, you should check the Unfair runs from Fragnaticc (they are on spanish, but text doest matter) from both bk1 and bk2. A lot of the rooms are automatic if you start them with the correct timing.

Sivak (game creator) was streaming this game on Twitch a while ago, sometimes you can find his stream. But I think it was pretty silly to not just pick infinite lives and see the whole game.

I like how this game introduces new enemies. In most games, you have to spend time trying to figure out the enemy's move set. But in this game, the enemy just kills you, so you can know how it works in the future.

For real though, we need more battle kid. It'll be fun to watch as you progress through the game over time.

i got all the way to the end boss, tried beating him for days and eventually gave up. to put up with this torment all the way to the end of the game and bail is devastating. this game is so savage

This is like crack to me! The only person I would trust to be able to play this game and get somewhere is Ryu! I needed this in my life so badly and I had no idea I did!

I find it fascinating that over the years we have developed not only different tastes in video games but diffrrent philosophies on what a game should be. To live through the entire xbox/ps2 era and say "I'm gonna make a ridiculous mega man ripoff." Never would have even occurred to me.

12:00 It's safe to say that Ryu never played a GBA Castlevania game before. You always have to go back to the save room after defeating a boss or the boss comes back when you die before getting to the next save room.

I would love to see more of this game! Both because it's fun to watch, but also because it's so up your alley.

The 2012 sequel, Battle Kid 2: Mountain of Torment on NES is a pretty spicy meatball as well.

Ryu, have you dabbled in trying to get through the Mega Man X6 mavericks with no upgrades & buster only? I’m doing a difficulty ranking vid of them for X4 - X6, and wow… some of the mid level bosses and couple mavericks are crazy!

I miss these old, impossible games. I find myself tensing up in every challenging spot and feeling it every time there’s a death right before a checkpoint

Battlekid is awesome. Got the 2 games at home and it's always a pleasure to see it play by other people.

There's actually a Switch version of this game now, and it's pretty darn good. Improves on some of the level design as well as the story and just overall quality of life.

Dude Cuphead took so much from this game, the first boss is just like Cagney Carnation and the second one is like a mix between Captain Brinybeard and Dr Kahl's Robot, like it's hard to not think they got "inspiration" from this game

I played this game at MagFest last year on an actual NES. Almost 400 deaths on normal got me to the final boss with the damage amp (optional upgrade that's hard to get), but I had to leave before I beat him! I saved the password though so if I ever find that version of the game again I'll have my revenge.

its cool that the I blocks reminded me of the "unknown" blocks in metroid zero mission, and the boss that gives you the key for it is very metroid like

I actually have this game on an original NES cartridge, for the full retro experience. ^^ It's a great game, I did play with unlimitied continues though. I imagine to play this on the highest difficulty you got to have all the patterns hard-wired into your brain. xD
