I went with the CX-50, can’t understate how outdated the RAV4 interior feels in 2022 especially with that infotainment system. Lack of power passenger seat too was a big negative for me too

Toyotas in general look outdated. The fact that not all RAV4 trims come standard with LED Drl’s is proof. Hell even the base Equinox and Terrain trims come standard with Drl’s.

Everything is relative with different features/characteristics more or less valued by buyers. I've found the best approach is to do one's homework, narrow it down to 2-4 vehicles and take them on the longest possible test drives back to back. I did that with the CR-V, RAV4, Rogue, and CX-5 in 2016 and 2021. I bought the 2016 and 2021 CX-5 without hesitation. Not one regret; both brought a smile to my face on freeways and winding mountain roads. Those driving/handling aspects are highly valued by me. Space and mpg are way down on my list. I can't wait to drive the CX-50--I just sat in one on the showroom when I recently had my CX-5 serviced. I'm pretty certain it will be my next vehicle in ~2026 after any bugs get ironed out and a Signature trim is available.

The LOWER TRIM Mazda CX-50's are really good cars. I was gonna buy a mid tier 50 but splurged and went for the leather, bigger wheels(which look fantastic on it), upgraded stereo and the heads up display. The cooled seats are something I found I love too much now too. Other than those things you can get a nice cx 50 for like 29-32k.

Proud owner of a new CX-50 Premium Plus Turbo in Polymetal! I test drove an RDX Advance/A-Spec, RAV4 Prime and coming from a 2018 BMW X3 3.0. Chose the CX50 because it came the closest to BMW's performance and handling. Great low end torque and power and very fun to drive! Love the premium interior materials and features. RAV4 Prime felt outdated and cheap despite all the efficiency features of the PHEV. RDX was not as impressive as I was expecting especially coming from BMW. Very happy with it!

For the money, the CX-50 got my vote. I'm glad I picked it - you feel like you're in something much more expensive. Whilst design is subjective, the quality, and ergonomics of the Mazda cabin are a lot better than the Toyota. I didn't like the Rav-4 much when I drove it, however the fuel economy is hard to argue with. The Mazda in real-world driving gets about 20 - 25MPG around the city (LA) and with fuel prices... it's a bit brutal. However, for a car to go on road trips and to transport friends, the Mazda is a fantastic car. A note on the speakers - whilst they both product good sound - the Mazda system can go full volume without distortion or vibration from the rest of the car - making for a really pleasing a crisp experience. I found the Rav-4 had panel vibrations and higher audio sounds. So if you like loud music, or are a bit of an audiophile - then the Mazda is the clear pick.

One important feature that you guys left out is towing capacity. As someone that enjoys camping and owns a teardrop camper I need a vehicle that has some towing abilities which rules out most vehicles in this class. Thank you for posting this video. I'm in the market for a new vehicle and have my list narrowed down to the cx-50 and the Rav4. I think a fair comparison would have been between the cx-50 GT Non-Turbo (or premium plus non-turbo) and the Rav4 Limited (non-hybrid). The price of these two vehicle trims is comparable. Of course the fuel efficiency of the hybrid will be much better than a turbo engine and an unfair comparison. Plus the 12-14 month waitlist for a hybrid Rav4 is insane. When comparing the 2.5L gas engine fuel efficiency in both these vehicles the Rav4 is slightly better but not significantly. According to Consumer Reports, Mazda has ranked top manufacture for reliability for the past 2 years and getting better. We finally decided upon the cx-50 for our next vehicle. Luxury, comfort, technology, modern style, handling, and leather were big factors. Plus the manual passenger seat with no height adjustment in the Rav4 (other than in their top trim) was a show stopper for me. Come on Toyota, get with it. I couldn't get in the passenger side of the Rav4 without hitting my head. I'm a long time Toyota customer and have absolutely zero complaints about their reliability and service, great vehicles. Even though the cx-50 is a new vehicle in the Mazda line-up, it's not new Mazda technology (other than the panoramic sun roof). Mazda is coming out with the CX-50 in hybrid in the near future sourcing Toyota hybrid technology built in the same plant as the Toyota. That would be a neat comparison that I'm looking forward to. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these vehicles, pros and cons for both, it's just that the cx-50 checked all the boxes for me.

20" wheels on the Mazda are a negative, not a positive. They're louder, reduce fuel mileage, ride stiffer, are much worse off road, and require more expensive tires. I'd take away a point from Mazda and give that point to the Toyota. Also, this Mazda has direct injection and a turbo. The Toyota has both direct and port injection, and no turbo. It will last longer than the Mazda, and won't suffer from the Mazda's carbon buildup. Vastly better resale value, as well, particularly the hybrid variant. Reviewers need to start mentioning the direct vs port injection/turbo vs non-turbo differences when comparing competing models to Toyotas. Long-term reliability matters to a lot of buyers.

Before choosing a CX50 you should consider the following: 1. The GT’s 20” rims and standard Goodyears (Canada) cannot be considered an off-road tire. Hopefully it works in winter but you don’t have much tread depth. 2. This is no competitor to a Subaru product as there is no suspension travel, little ground clearance and a metric tonne-load of plastic under the Mazda (can you find the oil filter DIY’s) 3. Fussy interior: Beautiful sure but it marks so easily and that surface around the shifter is hard to clean and scratches easily. 4. How do you clean the heads-up display that sits in the well in the dash and do you find the display in the glass distorted or clear? 5. Don’t count on great mileage and oil change intervals seem to be more frequent. 6. Body: so many crevices to trap sand and salt over winter = early rust potential? Just wondering (had literally miles of weather strip components) 7. Rear storage: Disappointing! The problem is the roof height. If you travel with small family consider bringing empty luggage to the dealership. You may find a CX5 works better as luggage can stand vertically back to back. Try it! 8. Purchase experience: Maybe this is happening every where but freight and PDI seems greatly inflated and acting like a surcharge. 9. Ergonomics: Not bad. Glad to see some buttons but the stitching on the steering wheel isn’t smooth, spokes are awkward and grip width at the 9 and 3 position aren’t good. You might agree after 500 miles. 10. Seats. Be sure you are ok with the Mazda designed butt-floss. This is weird and should be changed mid-production. Seats are hard. Bolsters are very hard. 11. Look hard at the CX5 before you buy the 50. 12. Outward visibility is poor due to the tall door sills and low seating position.

If you are going to compare the engines in any respect, you have to compare the gas mileage. The Mazda turbo is so much more fun to drive but it's at the cost of fuel efficiency. It wins in one area and loses in another. It's a trade-off that is properly reflected in the scoring.

For me it is CX-50 all the way. 3" wider, 3" shorter and same ground clearance means more stability around turns. Also, I can load items on the roof much easier. I don't care for the black cladding on either vehicle, however, the Rav4 is chunky and doesn't flow right. I test drove the CX-50 2.5 turbo and wished it had more getup and go, like Genesis 2.5T. Otherwise, I liked many things about it. If I plan to stay with ICE, this will be my next vehicle for the price. But my intent is to pursue an EV or at least a PHEV for my type of driving.

You guys don't understand how to measure decibels. The Toyota was almost 3 decibels louder than the Mazda, which means it was about 21% louder. For every db change, you get about 7% increase in subjective loudness. I think Mazda should have won that one.

We've owned both and by far we love the Mazda CX-50. If you have a passion for cars and driving then there's no comparison, the Mazda wins but if your focus is fuel economy then the Rav is the winner. In addition, the Mazda is by far better looking and has a premium vehicle appearance. The Rav is a bit nerdy inside and out!

Great video as usual! Both are great vehicles. I've always been a Toyota guy as most vehicles I've purchased so far have been Toyota/Lexus (all sedans). Not sure if I'll ever upgrade to a crossover in the future, but the RAV4 would be my top pick as of now (one of my co-workers is saving up for one), but I would also check out the CX-50. Another one of my co-workers is looking to replace his 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser soon as he recently test drove a CX-50 & liked it in some ways, but he may wait for the new 4Runner.

I currently have an ancient 2013 Audi allroad Premium Plus that, while it lacks a lot of the tech features of any new car - 1) has long been paid for, 2) is solid as a bank vault and hasn't really given me any problems, and 3) still makes me turn around to look back at it in a parking lot. I haven't even really been inspired to trade because I haven't seen anything on the market that I like better than my allroad. But there's a VERY high likelihood that I'll be trading the old girl for a CX-50 Hybrid whenever it comes out. We also have a Mazda MX-5 RF in the house and my parents had a 2018 CX-9 Signature that was gorgeous and I was lucky enough to be able to drive it from NY to NC after they first got it. I have to give props to Mazda and their "close-to-premium" trajectory. They're nailing it. The RF is a blast to drive and looks amazingly beautiful and the CX-9's interior was on par with my Audi. And as hard as it is to design a sexy full-size SUV, they managed to do it with the CX-9. Sure, the doors don't quite thunk as solidly as a German car's, and the Audi feels like there's an extra layer of insulation slathered everywhere underneath everything, but damn, Mazda is really putting out some compelling upmarket goods. Someone below said they traded in a BMW X3 for a CX-50 PP and that doesn't surprise me at all. Mazda is definitely putting themselves on the radar of premium car buyers. Plus, I work in the design world and they just can't make an ugly car (same as Audi, IMO) which is sadly the exception these days, and that's very important to me. I think the CX-50 is their best effort yet. So come on already with the Hybrid and take my money. Please...

If you want the best of both worlds, go with the 22” Hyundai Tucson hybrid limited. - More tech than both the RAV4 and CX-50 - gorgeous 10” fully digital gauge cluster (and when you use either turn signal, it’ll show a live camera view of your blind spot in the gauge cluster. I use it all the time and love it.) - large 10.25” fully touch widescreen (no need for dial) - digital key (can use a key card or your smart phone as a key to unlock/lock and turn on engine. No key fob needed) - Remote parking (can use buttons on key fob to move the car forward or backward out of tight parking spots) - Best warranty of all brands: 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. 10 year powertrain. 3 years complimentary maintenance - Plenty of cargo room and interior leg/head room for its class - Very stylish unique exterior with modern LED DRLs hidden into the grille (the grille itself is LED lights). Rear has an LED light bar, mustang-looking tail lights, and the rear wiper is neatly tucked and hidden underneath the spoiler. - Modern interior with a Tesla-like white/gray interior color option, ambient lighting, cooled and heated seats, heated rear seats, pano roof, leather, soft touch materials, etc. - Excellent driving dynamics especially in sport mode. Hybrid drivetrain and steering feel very responsive. Impressive acceleration. - Oh, and best of all. You get all of this for FOUR THOUSAND dollars less than the RAV4 and CX-50. I paid $38k for mine.

@eBikify
@eBikify 2 года назад
@@rockinggator969 I get that. However at this point, if you’re buying a brand new Hyundai or Kia (2022 or newer), and if that vehicle has been recently fully designed or an all-new vehicle, then you should be safe. They also have the 10 year warranty of course, and the free maintenance which is nice. I’m also a firm believer that as long as you take care of your vehicle, drive it properly, and for maintenance- take it in to the dealership who of course specializes in every aspect of your particular vehicle and usually knows how to catch any issue well ahead of time, then 99% of ppl shouldn’t have any major issues with their Hyundai or Kia. Remember, every brand has their lemons. Every brand has recalls. And every brand falls short in some way. But one thing is consistent with the Koreans- they are absolutely killing it in style, tech, and value. Unparalleled value for the features you get. And I don’t want to miss out on having the best possible features (and even driver safety tech) for my budget. So I’ll always choose the Korean brands

I heard the rav4 passenger seat is manual, but mazda offers power for both driver and passenger. I tested both cars today, including the cx5. Cx5 felt like I was driving the mazda 3 sedan. Rav4 felt the same way, but the mazda had more torque. The cx50 was shorter and felt heavy with steering and accelerations. They’re both good choices. Though I’d prefer a manual over an automatic, I’d take the Mazda’s 6 speed over the Toyota’s CVT offering any day. I’d also suspect the Mazda to have superior driving dynamics and better handling characteristics. Any old way you cannot go too far wrong with either the Toyota or the Mazda. The CX-50 (I believe) is made in USA, the RAV4, I don’t know - however with Toyota buying a fair chunk of Mazda stock (7%?), I’d not be surprised if they’re already sharing assembly lines, or soon will be. BTW, 3dB in noise level is actually quite substantial. I’d like to test drive these back to back.
