as an American who wasnt exposed to this topic in depth i am SO APPRECIATIVE of KnG for this series, cuz from this all eventually comes my country in a lot of ways so its like learning about a relative
Not boring at all. As an American this is utterly fascinating. Again I feel cheated by my schooling, as the only thing I remember about the English Civil War is that _maybe it happened...? who cares! yeehaw 1776 'murica!_ Thank you *again* Kings & Generals! @@nonyabusniss7777 very well said!
I love this channel. 17th century English warfare is rarely if ever covered by other military history sources on RU-vid, and I can appreciate the time and research put into this.
Ever wondered why that is? should be obvious! it would create the "them and us" situation, and in today,s world that would be to easy to agitate! RedWall, Brexit etc etc!
@@sentinal2343 well maybe History is divisive . . . but sports teams are moreso. . . and team spirit is heavily promoted. Seems to me fantasy battles, futuristic galactic histories like Star Wars take place of History. And video games with complex backstories have replaced books.about History. I am no paragon of virtue. I rely on my phone & YT presentations like this one . . . to feed a great hunger I now have for History.
@@penelopehill9710 Sports?!!! another ruined endeavor by the same fascist people,s simply because they CAN NOT COMPETE ON A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD IN ANY ARENA, Max Vaspaten, Tyson Fury! so called Lioness,s etc etc not to mention the governing bodies, Olympic committee banning 15 year old ice skater whilst accusing her of drug abuse ,did i mention Fury and drugs?, Mo Farrah, a ILLEGAL REFUGEE/immigrant who also took supplements! ,Bradley Wiggins(cycling) again substance abuse, and all still retain their ill-gotten gains/medals and titles and the media and so called fans lap up the cheating and call it winning! do you see many black competitors today? wonder why? no point if you are going to be blatantly cheated out of competing whilst witnessed by MILLIONS of fans live on TV, who accept the cheating as part of sport as they too know its the only way they can compete, ALL SO PREDICTABLE AND BORING!! DID I MENTION THE FOOTBALL FANS high ON cocaine, AT every PREMIERSHIP STADIUM, YET HAVE YOU HEARD OF A ARREST FOR PROCESSION? OR USING? WHEN WE SEE THE RESULTS AT THE END OF GAMES! NAH YOU CAN KEEP IT!!! NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY PAY INTEGRITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN CASH! HENCE ALL THE THICK/STUPID RICH SPORTS PEOPLES!!
Really good! I can visualize the geography and topography as well as keep track of the progress of the war. So much better than reading about it. Kudos!
I cant stress the importance of this and so many channels like this. I have always loved history since middle school. Then when smart phones came out and everyone saw infinite ways to connect to me offered freedom to explore any historical topic. Have I always been the best watcher of these channels? No but because I was too focused on me and my problems. I forgot that problems as far back as the first cave people. My life will not be defined by the problems of my time, mainly it isn't as bad as the past. We have flushing toilets and dont die on average at 30, it is not all bad. So now im quiting my corporate job, maybe not today or tomorrow but one day I am going to work at a museum and hopefully one day be a librarian. I want to teach ppl about the past as you have. Going to make a podcast talking about the moments that created ripples through time and space. Thank you...keep doing what you are doing 🙌 👏 it may have saved my life.
I completely agree with you on that but I would also love to see 5 other lesser known conflicts that were part of British and American history in chronological order is King Willams war which was the North American theater of the nine years war and it’s also known as the first inter colonial war, after king Willams war comes queen Anne’s war which is the North American theater of the war of Spanish succession, next is father rales war, following this war is King George’s war which is the North American theater of the war of Austrian succession but the last war had a bigger impact on British history and that war is called Father Le Loutre’s war which saw the British gain control of Nova Scotia, Continental Acadia which would become the Canadian province of New Brunswick and it would also see the British take control of Prince Edward Island however these 5 wars would only be a prelude to a more bigger and more famous and more greater known conflict and this greater known conflict is the North American theater of the seven years war the French and Indian war.
War of the Roses has already been covered and now we're gettin' served some sweet English Civil War (weirdly named as always)... will we get some The Anarchy documentaries soon? 👀
Well just saying but Besides the anarchy I would love to see the revolt of 1173-1174 and I would love to see it because fighting on the side of the rebels was Scottish prince David Earl of Huntigdon and he is the father of isobel of huntingdon and isobel got married to a man named Robert De Brus 4th lord of Annandale and together they had a son named after his father and his name is Robert De Brus 5th lord of Annandale and he is a very interesting character to me because he is the paternal grandfather of queen Isabel of Norway, King Edward Brus of Ireland and paternal grandfather of King Robert the Bruce king of Scotland and had Robert the Bruce’s paternal great grandfather married isobel of humtingdon he wouldn’t have had a claim to the throne of Scotland but besides the rebellion of 1173-1174 I would also like to see the Baron’s wars, Despenser war and the invasion of England in 1326 and the Baron wars are very interesting to me because the first war saw the restoration of the Magna Carta.
It seems while The Thirty Years War was going on in Europe itself the English were having their own version of it in the long English Civil War. Great video.
I love these videos because you (and your team) do a great job of providing the context and critical information that surrounds each event. You really put me in the shoes of the generals and soldiers, and present the types of challenges and tough decisions that they had to make. Not to mention the video quality is always top tier. Excellent content! Keep up the amazing work.
Awesome, there're more to come! Apparently I caught this series pretty much at its beginning! Quite thrilled, as I was versed on the _other_ Civil War, the War of the Roses! And for the first time in years, I don't know what the outcome here was! Great work, just opened up your channel page and... ohhh... the "Australian Pearl Harbor" - Interesting! Off I go! haha! Thanks so much for your amazing work! 😀👍🏼👍🏼
First off been a long time viewer of your videos. Thank you for the consistent history and tactics displayed on screen. Second if possible I would love to siege your depiction of the Defence of Rhodes against Mehmed II. It was a struggle much like Constantinople and the reason I ask for it is to learn more about the battle and the Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller an ancestor of mine who led the defence bringing victory against overwhelming odds.
According to the movie Cromwell 1970. Charles the first did place Bristol under Rupert's command for 6 months period but instead, he lost that control for 6 weeks. Due to this reason he was sent back to Europe.
Can you do a large English Civil war video please? Corfe Castle is my favourite sub story. Everytime I drive my truck past it I think of the history. (whilst trying to avoid hitting it on that road)
Great graphics, research and animation….excellent storytelling. I find it takes twice as long to get through the video because I’m always on google earth looking at satellite maps of sites and routes.
I'm from Newbury! Yay, hometown hero!....incidentally there is a monstrous monument in Wash Water (slightly south of Newbury) called the Falkland Monument (it's opposite the row of shops). For the longest time I thought it was commemorating the Falklands War but it is actually the place where the Parliamentary artillery was (well, ish), led by Lord Falkland. I suppose I could be wrong, but I think it might be the only monument commemorating the civil war. Oh no, wait, that's actually a lie. There is also a monument here in Yorkshire that's in a field commemorating the battle of Marston Moor. I found a musket ball there last year. Curiously the monument looks exactly the same as the one in Newbury (Wash Water). And yes, I know, I'm a southerner living in Yorkshire. I'm about as happy at that situation as Northerners are at me being here.
@@davidhealy4534 Oh shit! You're right! It is called Wash Common! Apologies. Wash Water is somewhere else. Sincere apologies. I've lived a at a lot of different places but grew up in Newbury. That's shameful that I forgot the name. That's actually quite embarassing. Sorry. Thank you for correcting me. It's been a long time since I've been back there.
That's actually a good idea. The Assassin supported Parliamentarians vs. The Templar supported Royalists. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft fucks up while developing the game, just like what happened with Unity and Valhalla.
I think the two guns marking a battle can go back and forth in parallel with a low musket sound. I think it is more suitable in the context of the era.
Because there are plenty of moorlands in Great britan, and they're large open areas - perfect for warfare with limited collateral damage and cavalry operations. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorland#Great_Britain
Seeing the formation of the English, was expecting them to use oblique attack with their left being the stronger wing. A mass Calvary charge on the parliamentist left cavalry followed by an infantry charge might have dealt a blow, in order to prevent the parliamentist to reinforce their right, a mass attack would do but the force attacking the parliamentist that is on the hill should prepare for heavy combat.
I'm confused. Why are you calling London's army commander 'Essex' when it clearly says 'Devereux'? Is that a typo or was a reason why he is called Essax that I missed from the last video?
1643, should have seen the end of the civil war in a royalist victory if there had been a bit more vim and veer, aggressive spirit and offensive thinking amongst the royalist high command. As at both, relief of the Siege of Gloucester and then at Newbury, they had opportunity to destroy Parliament, only functionally intact field army in the open, away from London and then march on an undefended London in the aftermath. Unfortunately they botched these opportunities and entry of the scots into the war on Parliament's side in 1644 was a strategic game changer.
I searched for " war " and this is the first video i got . Rememer my friends some times a war may happen anywhere in this world because maybe some people may hate you for no reason at all .
Your map is wrong, Brentford and Turnham Green are both north of the river Thames. That matters because there was no bridge over the Thames at that time so the royalists could not bypass the defences. Rupert was not too quick but Charles was too slow and never had as good an opportunity again..
@Kings and Generals please make a video covering the current uprising of brave Iranian youth fighting for their rights against the terrorist Regime in Iran. #MahsaAmini
