I've noticed something in your playstyle. If you're raided, and the enemy force is hard to touch, you try to defend as best as you can, relocate villagers to a safer position, gather small army and do a raid yourself. That works because you're extremly hard to raid, you know how to properly defend against it. And also, that small boar thing... Made a great impact on the enemy. WP

I'm having a hard time understanding how he won that, just a lot of little things adding up to his opponent running out of steam

Think about how many resources opponent expended & what he got for it... Each Byz ram costs 250 resources, they made like 6 of them + researched siege engineering.. so like 1600 resources or so. For that, they killed the TC (750 resources) + like 4 or 5 houses (300 resource) + a couple of villagers. On the other end, Beasty killed 5 or 6 villagers. He also probably made 8 or 9 villagers out of that TC. So, overall he's probably +10 villagers + had a better trade with the rams. The bad bounty situation + Byz superior eco does even things out a bit, but I'd say overall that's why.

Beasty's raids were better. He killed more villagers. Specifically food villagers. His micro in the fights was much better and he tried to make counters to the javelin throwers, archer into knights. When he rallied every unit to finish off the opp's army the opponent knew he had no army and his food eco was not good enough to re-mass quick enough.

Despite of this great game and the Beasty skills... My question is, why russ has militia? this "ability" has to be remove from the game, russ in general has so many advantages in feudal: has a safe game for the krenlim, u can go 2 tc, become unraidable the first 10 minutes and also u have militia that defend ur base almost for free!... Russ is untouchable... Yes militia die in 1:20 minutes but is too much time to stop an attack and recover. Sorry but the militia has to dissapear or u can create them only for 1 time a(only 6 militias)

I feel like the mercenary mechanic is too strong. Maybe the olive oil cost of units should increase because with boosted gather on the cistern AND getting bonus olive oil that gives you perfectly macroed food+gold units is too easy. Byzantine feudal rushes have become the new french knight spam or the english longbow spearman all in

its basically another free unit mechanic. probably wouldn't be so bad if they didn't get all the best stuff from the other civs with it. but it can give a big initial burst of units that others can't get.

Try playing Byz a bit and you'll see it's a good mechanic but definitely not overpowered. Byz is unplayable on water maps (if you need to fight) and a less than 50% win rate at all rating levels. It also was completely smacked down at the recent EGC tournament. Byz is actually a bit undertuned in my view.
