Interesting comparison, some points I would add: - Side Holes: I find them very good for securing the boxes, one hook well placed pulling to the bottom can lock in place an entire stack of Wolf Packs! Can also be used to hook other bags to a wolf pack that is secured. - Handles: I don't know if they fixed this on the pro but the handles on the original are horrible, they cut the hand and make a loaded box very uncomfortable to carry for any kind of distance (at least without gloves). - Aeration: FR used to answer on critics that the Wolf Pack was not 100% water sealed, that the fact that it had aeration meant that if you pack things not 100% dry inside (which happens often when camping), it could dry and not rot. (and yes the old ones are already very good at resisting at any kind of water projection) - Cub Pack: I agree that they are underrated, I think their best advantage is for inside storage, because the locking mechanism on the Wolf Packs (regular and Pro) needs space to open it and when inside a close space (like a trunk) it's some time a big pain to find this space, often needs to move around the box or another bag to be able to open all 4 of them... You don't always want to remove the box from the vehicle to pick something inside.
Great video, as always! I have had pretty bad luck with the Wolf Pack Pros. The sides of the lids are super flimsy, flexible and leak when on a roof rack in the rain. The wind blows them up and water gets in. I regret buying the Wolf Pack Pros and use them for interior storage only.
That sucks. On the way to the SE Adventure Expo we had torrential downpour. Both when driving there, during, and when coming back. 80mph on the highway. 20mph wind gusts. Didn't have any leaks.
@@BaptismOverland It's all of them, and I have four. If you take your finger and gently lift up on the side of the lid, you can see how easily wind will catch it and lift it up. The seal is the broken and wide open. I have driven across Kansas (flat and super windy) with all four. All of them were wet inside. The plastic is just too soft and unsupported. The sides of the lid act as a wind catch.
@@TMAFitness ahhhh. I could see how that happens. What strap were you using to lock them down with? I've only ever used ratchet straps and that could be why it hasn't lifted. But still. It shouldn't do that. If I ever get leaks in any of mine I'll make sure to let you and @frontrunner know
Hello David, we are sorry to hear you are having issues with your lids letting in some water. We have designed new mounting brackets that close down on the ends of the lid to help secure that part down. We do appreciate your feedback as we strive to improve our product.
Totally understand! I had the same gripe as I'm on the east coast as well but that's going to get better soon. They opened up a warehouse in Jacksonville so they can fulfill orders on the east coast. They just don't have everything there yet but they will.
pretty good comparison. I personally own the classic wolf pack. I use the mounting brackets for it and it is better than strapping it down. Is there a reason why you prefer strapping it down? **the classic wolf pack brackets wont work for the pros though.
Easy. Because I store 3 side by side and I'm storing them on top of my RTT which doesn't have the T rail slots. That's all. I COULD use the brackets for the runner directly on the roof rack but I use 3 boxes so that'll mean spacing them out to line up to the rails so it takes up too much room.
In my opinion the pro's are crap. Not weatherproof at all. I put them on my roof rack and after a small rainfall there was a lot of water inside. And any moist that's inside will cause the content to mold. The old ones have holes in the bottom so moist can escape. Also the old one's stack way better.
Yeah I miss the drain holes. I personally haven't had any issues with none of them and I live in Florida lol. But I still love the look of classics. Just hate the clasps
Weird thing is that for diff people it's different. Some people have had leaks on one or the other. I never have and I live in Florida and have driven through torrential storms
