@octaviusking I've never been to a rave, but clearly you're the person with the smooth moves who can teach me! My application to be your student is in the post. ...Although I'd just look like a drunk giraffe... 😵💫😵💫😵💫
@@MrNerv to be fair, when a girraffe runs it looks pissed anyway, like, not even joking! Search for girraffe running and try not to laugh....naturrs little punchlines
Thank you so much for the huge effort and time and love you put into all your videos. I loved my spectrum growing up, and half the fun was the bobbins games for 1.99 from Woolworths. You have made me smile many times and the genuine warmth and honesty that comes through your characters brightens my days. As a fellow neurodivergent, I know sometimes things are tough but hang in there, it does pass and brighter days are ahead. I love your work.
Maybe I'm just assuming due to my own depression and issues but I can tell you might be a little bit down in the dumps and I'm going to let you know that you're the brightness in a lot of people's days including myself
In the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "Sometimes the only way to feel good about yourself is make other people look bad. And I'm tired of making other people feel good about themselves"
In 2000, I was brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink of my studio flat in Norwich. The water knocked the toothpaste off the brush, it hit the sink, bounced up and then went straight into my eye. My eye was minty fresh. It also stung like hell.
This is exactly why I love these retro games, there's a lot of very unique games and even the poor graphics meant you had to use your imagination more, that always made me connect more with the games somehow
Oral hygiene-based ZX Spectrum games is one of those "weird that it happened twice" things. Also that 'It's Only Rock 'n' Roll' is a band management sim, and I assumed it was the one Chris Sievey made but it turns out it's not, so that means there are THREE band management sims for the 8-bit computer market, but only one of them features "Bill Collins"
I learned about self-help and oral hygiene today. As far as British taxes go (I'm from the US), I only know what I've picked up from Red Dwarf and Black Books. Neither of those mentioned latex clad adjustors.
There's like a Canadian animated short series in the 80's about bathroom items brought to life and their adventures that would play in the early morning, and anytime I see an electric toothbrush, I still picture that blue dude on the wheels whizzing about.
Thank you for the information, Octy. I immediately went out into the street and told the first woman I saw that Gibbs SR was the first advert on UK TV and got instantly laid (out). 👍
How do you write these great scripts and deliver them in such a bravura way? This video was just the thing to take my mind off work and my boss, who is being a total Tiger R-Zone. Bravo!
4:30 if you like "stupid and epic" you will love GloryHammer - just came back from their concert tonight (no joke, in Australia) and they are incredible. Epic Metal music about Space Dwarves fighting evil Wizards. 10:05 I have a strong feeling Lady Thermonuclear is really good at motivating people to do their taxes and you should have her around more often. Just to make sure you get yours done. 13:11 I know exactly what you mean and I totally agree. There's a nostalgia about the naivety of how people went about making games back then. Finally, I see comments from 2 weeks ago but the upload time was 1 hour ago. I know what that means. I've actually come back to edit the comment to say I've subscribed to your Patreon.
I think it's weird how toothpaste ads always show someone using triple the pea-sized amount the label directs you to use. Imagine a paracetamol commercial where some guy chugs half a bottle and then flashes a big smile until his liver explodes.
K-Tel is infamous in the US for its commercials/adverts that would usually air on daytime TV in the '70s and '80s. They sold a lot of compilation albums of disco hits.
in Denmark we had a DOS game called "Harald Hårdtand" where you controlled a sentient tooth with a bowtie armed with a tube of toothpaste running around inside someones mouth shooting bacteria and stuff..... the soundtrack to Battle of the Toothpaste Tubes is better though....
As a former Spectrum user, that Dracula game looks as if it was written in BASIC with the Spectrum's old block graphics. They gave you an effective resolution of 64x48 pixels. But you didn't have to do all that tricky messing about with machine code!
The cover reminds me of the pic Imagic used on their box for their Dracula game for the Intellivision. Without Googling it, I’m not so sure it isn’t the same pic.
Today I learned that I soon need to get a tooth yanked out, get a hole drilled into the bone and get an implant screwed in. Then I got home and this video was the first notification I got. ITS OKAY I KNEEL AND SHOW HUMILITY
My brain couldn't fathom the idea of a game about toothpaste tubes where it's NOT a licensed tie-in for a specific brand. But honestly, that's a big part of the charm with some of these old games, and the modern indie scene too. People just...come up with stuff. And then it's a video game. I can dig it.
Just spent 14 minutes engrossed (ooh er) watching you talk about a 'bobbins' game. And the rave scene was a masterpiece. As a content creator I appreciate how much editing went into this video 👏 and yeah do what you love ❤
😂 I had this one, it was nuts just made me want to play chuckie egg, as for 8 bit bangers I would still opt for hero quest. The music from the spect version lives rent free in my head. Back in the late 90s me an a mate played it through his stereo an blew his speakers 😂
Yes! A toothpaste rave! Probably filled with dentists and the like. That is something I didn't know I needed probably because I really don't need it. Octavius did make a catchy tune out of it, though. 🙂
Thanks for another top-notch video about spectrum weirdness. You always make shite games more interesting for us to see. Loved the toothpaste rave bit. 😂 Best RU-vid channel of all time, keep on keeping on! XxX
These were games in a time when anything was interesting, being 12 in 1984 and playing any game on a computer was fun... like taking a needle and thread making your own stitches onto your body for fashion ....
Yes...Thanks for another great video Octavius!! Having an Octavius marathon today to give me a great start to the working week bouncing in full of positivity! You really help with individuals who may suffer from any sort of mental health!!! Keep up your AmAzInG work..... ❤✔️🙏x
The title sounded weirdly familiar but as soon as I saw the gameplay it dragged up a whole bundle of previously-repressed memories from the depths of my brain. Oh god...I OWNED this game as a kid! I PLAYED this game as a kid! I also had no idea its creator also made "Soul of a Robot", which I loved even though I was absolutely rubbish at it. So thanks for enlightening me on that, Octavius. :) That said I'm going to now go and find a nice, quiet corner in which to crumble into dust.
As kids, there were two toothpastes that stood out in my memory - Signal, which is quite neutral in its taste and can still be bought, and SR, which, if you rinse after (and you shouldn't, kids), feels like one of the icy peaks of the packaging have been forcibly shoved into your mouth. Like trying to chew half a dozen Airwave "pieces" at the same time.
1:13 Wooow, look at the cover, it's like lightsabres but with tooth paste! 4:54 Or this. 😀 3:21 So *that's* where that picture on Instagram came from. 6:05 Bloody hell, that thing is the size of a hairbrush! 7:59 Toothpaste Wars maybe? 9:01 Hm. Looks oddly familiar. 10:16 HAHAHAHAHA!!! 11:50 No no no, I think you're onto something big here! 12:38 The graphics are a bit... well, Speccy but gameplay-wise it's a lot better than Battle of the Toothpaste Tubes. And the tiny toothbrush is kinda cute. Thank you for the video, was DISTILLED as always! ❤
We need more aural hygiene games theses days, AAA dental game anyone? YAY. The Rave scene transported me instantly to my 20's, superb Stuff, reach for the lazers safe as bobbins o/ keep up the good work OK o/
As one who has to go the dentist every 6 weeks and use a Fluoride toothpaste so potent that I can only get it from them directly, I find the concept of this game actually visually satisfying. Sure it's a fever dream but I like it.
That Molar game was the second game I ever played - on a display computer at a department store. I kept losing at it. But my total playing time would be about 15 minutes and I was 7 at the time. But I'll always remember the game, even if I didn't know the name of it until now.
I stumbled onto this channel by accident and now I'm so glad I did. So many enjoyable videos to watch and getting to know Octavius. So far, she looks great and I hope you continue with these awesome content. And yeah, about this trash game, it kinda reminds me of clusterfuck shovelware games like Meme Run on the Wii U, and I don't want ANYTHING to ever remind me of that game again, lol.
It was a magnificent review of a game which I was glad to avoid playing. I'm pleased you remembered Molar Maul which I did play but I never actually realised that there were no Incisors, canines, or premolars in the mouth. Regarding other crap games on the ZX Spectrum, I particularly remember playing Transylvanian Tower and being extremely disappointed with the experience. I did try out a copy of Games Designer and made my own shooter game on it guiding a flying p-n-s and shooting sp-rm-t-azoa at ova which when successfully hit developed into little babies. I was a weird and hormonal adolescent back then, LOL. Maybe Octavious could design her own weird game on that software. I think it was developed by by Quicksilva. I am so glad they didn't develop a game based on Anusol.
There once was a man from Nantucket! Who took a pig to the thickett... Wait, that was something else. The point I was trying to make is that I really like your content.
