Here it is, a full, animated, narrated documentary on the Battle of Thermopylae, fought in 480 B.C., during the Greco-Persian Wars!
Approximately 7,000 Greeks led by King Leonidas and 300 Spartans faced off against a massive Persian army, rumored to have had over 1 million men (today, estimated at 300,000), led by the Persian King, Xerxes I. The vastly outnumbered Greeks held off the Persians for seven days (including three of battle) in one of the most famous last stands in history

The Spartans held their shields with their forearm and a hand grip, shield would cover their body from shoulder down to their knees for protection

Not all 300 spartans died 2 survived! Pantites and Aristodamus because they were massengers! ( some sources say that one of them was excused because of a eye infection)

You ever read Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield? It goes deep into the Spartan training regimen. These were not soft men. Any whom faced them did so in fear, or in ignorance of defeat. There is not a third path.

Hey! That's not fair. Spartans didn't use pikes that time

The letter lamda ( Λ) was not painted on the shields till later and it was by the new citizens (neodamodeis) ex slaves who became citizens because of very low manpower . The lamda connoted that lakedemona Λακεδαίμονα, that is Sparta, which was now their master . During the wars with Persia shield had the group or mora emblem.

Who ever depicted the Spartan formation looking like a Macedonian one, does not know history. Spartans did not use 15 to 20 feel spears. They were 6 or seven feet only. Only officers had their helmets plum from across shoulder to shoulder, all used Corinthian style helmets with plums

Check out my recent video on the Battle of Marathon, its portrayal of the Greek hoplites is more accurate.

Pretty sure the pike phalanx haven't existed yet but ok.
@amadbiscuit
@amadbiscuit 2 года назад
The phalanx existed, but the pike did not. Or the pike was not in widespread use by the Spartans in 480 BC anyways. Check out my video on the Battle of Marathon. It has a better, more accurate, depiction of the Greek hoplites, with shorter spears, than this video does.

You don't have to be a Spartan to be brave. The Early Christians were were even more braver. They didn't have weapons, and were prepared to die rather than disown their faith. Jesus was the ultimate Spartan. Of interest too, is that Josephus a 1st Century Historian said that the Spartans were considered brothers of the Israelites. WHY? Becauae ''they were of JEWISH STOCK". This would explain their Religious festivals connected to the full moon (Sabbath).

There is now a modern day Battle of Thermopylae being fought in Ukraine . The Ukrainians are the Spartans fighting against the invasion of the Mighty Russian Empire. Unfortunately the all Spartans where killed in a cowardly way by Persian ARROWS. Will the Russian Xerxes do likewise with modern Deadly Arrows? ie. Nuclear Missiles? If he does then he will be a bad loser just like Xerxes.
@FallingPicturesProductions
@FallingPicturesProductions Год назад
Piss poor comparison. The Russian Federation, or even the USSR before it, doesn't have anywhere near the sheer might compared to Xerxes' Persia. Greece and China were basically the only civilized lands not conquered or paying tribute to Persia at it's peak. The Ukrainian fight is valiant, any fight for defense of your homeland is a valiant one. But Ukraine is backed by the majority of Europe and North America, and a large portion of the world will continue to function independent of direct Russian influence even if somehow Ukraine just dropped dead tomorrow.

This isnt right 3 days hahaha no it was 7 days and the main reason the spartans die is cuz they fought till their weapons broke. Way to watch the movie 300 and do zero real research. Also 1 spartan survived to send word to sparta he was punished by being put on the front lines of the next battle of plataea. Please do real research you even quoted lines out of the movie hahahah youre a clown dude
