I try and imagine a 19 year old me or any teenager from today walking up to the Senate with the Praetorian Guard to seize control of an Empire. Blows my mind.

It's nice to know more about what happened in this particular civil war. It's also nice to know more about Brutus and Cassius outside of being Caesar's killers. Great video.

I've read and watched a lot about the second Roman Civil War between the Populares and the Optimates, but I never heard anything about the Optimates' battles against Rhodes and Xantus until now. Thanks for shedding some light on a topic that doesn't get discussed often. Very good video.

It is completely and utterly incomprehensible, how out of touch the late Republican Senate was in this time. The Romans had lived in fear of the Gauls for 3.5 centuries and Caesar conquered it {which to be perfectly clear, he did with methods that in modern terms would be considered genocide against the Senone tribe, which sacked Rome in early 4th century B.C.E.}. His soldiers had not only marched on Rome, but fought (and won) a civil war for Caesar - against their fellow Romans. But Caesar was also their best general, on his way to fight a war with the Parthians, to retrieve the lost Aquilae (Eagle Standards) from Carrhae. And the Senate thought after they murdered the man who not only did that, but also stood the best chance of them regaining the honour. That the legions would turn *on Caesar's son* for the same people who had Caesar twice beaten in the Civil War and both times gave up an easy victory over Caesar because of the "Republican values", which literally cost all of them their lives.

It amazes me that during these decades of civil war, there wasnt any notable attacks on Rome from outside kingdoms. I guess Rome was just THAT scary in these times that other kingdoms didnt want to risk them unifying against an outside threat

Incredible video as always. Although Augustus certainly showed who was the true heir of Caesar, I'm just here...anxious of a certain Agrippa to make his appearance.

9:25 I feel like you left out something very important. The proscriptions were themselves a compromise between the three Triumvirs. Each of them had to give up someone they cared about very much to prove their loyalty to the others. Octavian, who considered Cicero like an Uncle to him, gave him up.
