Imagine you're a new participant to BattleBots. You've built your first robot with your family, nothing too complicated, just a lifter bot. You enter your first ever match, you're not seeded high in the rankings. Surely your first match would be against someone just as new. But no, *You're fighting Tombstone*
Slap Box had it right in the beginning....had Tombstone on the run for a good thirty seconds keeping its weapon low power. If they had a bit more driving experience they'd have been able to keep him cornered and unable to utilize that blade. The moment he broke off and they didn't immediately follow is when it was all over for them.
You can see he clearly meant to hit it but being knocked upside down near the start of the match the blade was higher so couldn't land a direct hit, now why Tombstone has a good design of being able to drive on either side to avoid being flipped, should consider redoing the blade so it's more in the mid so it's at the same level no matter which side it's on.
@@Jarred-J254 Well no, that eliminates the possibility for it to get a different spot if facing an opponent who's defenses/offenses happen to be just above/below the blade. As is, if that were to happen, Tombstone could potentially end up flipped and the repositioned blade work to its advantage. Of course that same reasoning could potentially work against it, as well, but the risk reward of that happening is more favorable.
I get that they entered a contest that would in all likely do massive damage to their creations, but that little girl screaming "please no please no please noooo" out of fear for her tiny little bot just activated Dad Mode for me.
This encapsulates everything great about ray, absolutely surgical driving, attacks, and the humanity to back off and not completely destroy the dreams of two kids who are potentially the future of battle robots. Even when they had him playing the part of the 'bad guy', i never saw him destroy a team that didn't deserve it.
This was true when he knocked off Gigabytes top and the guy panicked trying to tapout. Ray yells over "STOP MOVING RON!" and ray backed off.. It was comical but also very sportsman.
@@gilligan369 A quote from battlebots wiki "Tombstone got the award of most destructive robot as it destroyed Counter Revolution, Radioactive, Witch Doctor and Bronco" The one against counterrevolution was quite gory. But Radioactive was really comical.
@@wishusknight3009 oh this looks like an american rip off but with way worse robots.. razer would kill that tombstone easily. Chaos and behemoth would eject it from the arena
Unfortunately, I'd say slap box isn't durable enough for a wedge bot (not their fault, the team is really new so can't blame them). Her wheels and side wedges came off in 1 hit, tombstone would have much more trouble taking the wheels off bots like witch doctor and yeti.
@@baalfgames5318 He meant to hit it but couldn't hit it cause the blade was too high from being upside down, shame honestly, would have been a good way to end the battle making that girl possibly breakdown.
I've heard tell Ray is a good guy and helps out on the back stage rebuilds. And that's what it's really about the engineering , fixing and learning. I mean to hold your own in the ring with Ray is feat . Ray is a legend.
To be fair, if that first hit that sent tombstone flying didn’t happen, it would have been a curbstomp. Still, for what it did, they did a good job in lasting as long as they did.
Honestly held out longer then quite a few bots have in the past haha. even got tombstone flying a few times. Honestly some better wedges / fork configurations on that bot and it will be solid
I will TRY my best to upload ALL FIGHTS from ALL EPISODES this season! Please share this channel and this video with anyone you know is a Battlebots fan! Merry Christmas!
Subscribed. Perfect video format, starts at the 3 second countdown. No filler, no fluff, no BS. Really, really appreciate channels like this that get down to business without all the hoopla.
I think they actually did really well against tombstone for a family team, they scored some really good hits on tombstone in the first phase, but unfortunately, that slapbox is built way too weak for a wedge bot.
@@sonicthehedgehog2745 i dont think he'd break huge in half as the centre of huge where his blade is is too high only knocking his wheel off would b the only way to stop huge like that
Closest thing was HUGE taking on Son of Whyachi with wheels the team bragged were indestructible. Unfortunately for them, Whyachi proved nothing is indestructible.
such an injustice. They're too scared their viewings will go down if tombstone doesn't make it to the round of 32, so they had him fight a low-tier family-made bot knowing they had no chance.
@SoulBanner_330 is it common to do so when the tournament hasn't actually started though? I don't follow many tournament sports. Thanks for no spoilers
Yes it is, many low tier competitors are given higher tier competitors, that way they have a chance to prove they can beat serious competition, you have to be able to fight everyone to win the Giant Nut
@@lewycraft Yeah, but I wasn’t too impressed with it. All I’ve really seen from it so far is it kinda swerving around the box and hope they hit something, which they just happened to do in their last two fights. But what happens when they fight someone like Whiplash or Tantrum, who are both really low to the ground and insanely durable?
@@dota2live191 even if they hadn’t thrown Tombstone out of the arena, I think they would have won. They did get lucky that tombstone got stuck on the side
0:50 i have the tombstone hexbug battlebot (with whiplash, sawblaze, and the nameless modular bot that comes with tombstone and the arena) and i love doing that, seeing how far i can send the pieces. I think the farthest iv gotten was bout 5 ft
It takes some serious mental fortitude to pick up the controller knowing you’re facing off against a Lawnmower of Doom that has a nasty reputation for shredding anything that isn’t 45-degree sloped ballistic steel.
It was indeed a good match. Tombstone takes a beating from these kind of bots. The fact that it goes flying after hitting it messes up its internals. Tombstone would absolutely lose against Duck! Edit: last rites lost against whoops in robogames 2017, I was proven right lol
They could have defeated Tombstone. The driver just needed some experience in keeping up the wedge upfront. Overall this new bot lasted more than many other bots. Overall i appreciate the other bot. It was a good fight.
Battlebots:normally not loud The referee in this match counting out slap box: TAEEEAAEENN NIIAIAIAIAIIANE… EEIAIIEIAIIIAIIIGHT…. SEAEAEEAEEVEN… SIAIAIIAIIX…. FIAIAIAIAIVE… FOOUOOAOUUAUAUR… THREAEEAEAEAEEE… TWOAOAOOAOOAOOEO.. ….one.
If I was controlling Tombstone in this match I would have attacked again, just to take off Slapbox's last wheel. I'm not a mean person; I just love symmetry. If I took off 3 of your wheels then darnit I'm going to take your 4th wheel too.
1:40 even if he’s supposed to be the « vilain » he still played taking in consideration he was against kids and congratulated them at the end saying it was a good match.
The only one more thing to make tombstone more scary, is flipper, so when it is up side down, he can flip it so the spinning blade can hit mini bots, and get recked
that would be a cool tool to have in his box, the big issue though, is that shear kinetic energy the blade has, its effectively a massive Gyro, that why in some of the fights when Tombstone gets launched it kinda seams to hover basically, when the blade is at full speed, Tombstone is near impossible to flip, even if you do launch it
Tomestone vs. Slapbox Winner: Tomestone!!!! (No mercy til the end) Even Dr. Ray Billings is willing to recognize a potentially worthy opponent when he see one
this fight is proof the committee that decides the battlebot matches want the fan favorite bots to make it to the playoffs for more money, they always have a rookie bots fight other rookie bots and never veterans UNLESS the veteran isnt doing good then you use the rookie as an easy win to let them in to playoffs and get more views which gives more money
Low seed vs high seed is extremely common in pre and early tournaments. The same is done in college sports all over. Are you sure they're not just doing what most sports brackets do?
@@Krugis this wasn't a tournament fight, this was the second fight of the season of a bot who has never fought before against a bot who has won a giant nut and has like 2 decades of experience under his belt
@@SomeWouldSayImNotExactlyEthan did you miss me mentioning it's common in pre-tourney too? The only difference between this and normal sports is that a bot dies instead of somebody's ego. I guess I can understand people not linking it and / or not knowing it is common practice in sporting, it does seem mean spirited
