one of the most horrible things put to film. Leah Remini said in her book that after she and her sister saw the film, they both took their shoes off and took off into a small wooded area and went running down a hill to her car so they could get out of there before the press asked Leah what she thought of the film. Crazy thing is this was a 100% genuine effort by Travolta and Scientology. They really thought this was going to be something on par with the greatest epics in cinema history, like Gone With the Wind meets Star Wars. It probably never occurred to them what a horror show the film was until they watched it at the theater.

While I do think Hubbard was a mediocre sci-fi writer, the book itself isn't all that bad. I low budget made for TV type of movie or series that followed the book might have done decently. Problem is they tried to turn it into a $70+ million major motion picture, which was never going to work.

Nearly everyone who knows the Travoltas have said his wife Kelly was the hardcore Scientologist. John Travolta was apparently highly devoted to it a long time ago, but lost interest in it over time. With Kelly having passed away I suspect he's only a nominal Scientologist because he doesn't want the headache of leaving. There may be some blackmail given Scientology does secretly record it's "auditing" therapy sessions and presumably there is a lot of sexual stuff there which could be embarrassing if leaked to the public. It's pretty much an open secret John Travolta is bisexual but for whatever reason he's not comfortable coming out. Not sure why since nowadays his career and life would not take any hit over it.

I got to rewatch BATTLEFIELD EARTH at a sci-fi fantasy film series at a theater a couple of years ago it wasn’t a packed audience, but there were just enough people just cracking up and having a ball to make the movie a truly wonderful experience a delightful movie Travolta is a treasure

Around two decades ago I did sit down to watch it, I saw about 30 min into it then was interrupted by something and had to stop. I actually intended to go back to it later (no, really), but I never did. It was bad, but it wasn't hard-to-watch bad. Yet over the years I just gradually lost interest in the hobby of watching awesomely terrible films--though I do enjoy and appreciate the takes on them by channels like Double Toasted (or Chris Stuckmann, or Cinematic Excrement, among others). It's one of those "they watch it so we don't have to" things.

Back when this movie came out, I remember seeing numerous TV ads and being very interested in going to see it. Something inside me recognized that there was something special about it. Didn't know which way it might go but I was excited. Well, here we are twenty one years later and looks like my gut was right, it is a special film. A special kind of bad that only comes around once in a lifetime. The first time I saw it, I walked out about twenty minutes in. It was all those dutch angles. I just could not sit through the movie like that because it was making me feel disoriented. Then, I caught up with it a few months later at a dollar theatre, sat through the whole thing this time and wasn't sure how I felt but I knew it wasn't good. A year later, I decide to rent it on DVD to figure out how I really felt about it. Now, it's one of my favorites, it's just so bad it's good.

If I may make a suggestion good sirs, the dungeons and dragons movie from the 2000’s is ripe with stuff for you to do a review/roast about. Jeremy irons acting in that movie alone warrants a study in how to just say fuck it and let loose for a movie role. This man does the opposite of phoning a performance. This man makes dafoe’s green goblin from sam raimis Spider-Man 1 look more subdued by comparison. He could make nic cage say the dude needs to calm the hell down

Not knowing anything about the book I remember seeing the trailer for battlefield Earth in early 2000 as a kid and the clips was the part when they were flying the spaceships and gun battles with the aliens. I was thinking oh man that's going to be a rip-off from Star wars I don't want to see it . Years later when I saw it I was like huh ok did not think it was that plot setting in the beginning.🤣🤣🤣
