There is so much more to the fighting retreat of Army Group North than this! Just the 3 or so Battles in Courland in 45 could fill a 2 part series! Interesting video though all the same cheers
If Leningrad was a bloody street / urban Battle , the casualties on Both Nazi- German troops , and Soviet troops would've been as high as Stalingrad ,maybe Evan higher ! But , Stalingrad drew alot of resources of Nazi - German military .
Narva Narva Narva, It is always about that damned Narva place when wars kick off in the area. I wish it would just move somewhere. Anywhere but here. Damn Narva....
These definitely feel like they're edited from the original. I prefer the older version of this. I do think that the plan to turn Leningrad into a siege was a huge mistake. The German army was not set up for that kind of thing and losing the fourth panzers did not help one bit.
45 minutes in and im thinking wow this documentary talks alot about everything but leningrad ........finally noticed the title , battle of kurland ......ffs all i saw was siege of leningrad >:(
Von Rundstedt had proposed the capture of Leningrad, to secure the northern flank and land line to Finland as step one of Barbarossa...then assault on moscow after shoring up the northern flank.
As for the selling of human flesh.... People didnt want to eat their own family. So they sold the meat from their loved ones in order to buy meat from other families. Yes, thats how bad it was. The Siege of Leningrad is one of the most horrific chapters of the war. No pets remained in the city. After the war the Soviets shipped in thousands of cats to combat a rat problem.
The Finns are some of the greatest warriors on earth. I give them a pass. They asked for help from the British. The British could not at that time. They had to fight and help the Germans. I understand thier situation.
Interestingly. If we approached the Ukraine with the intelligence of the Finns the world would be better off. By that I mean they knew their limitations….they understood just how far to go and when to stop. We Americans are clueless that way. 100%
