I can understand those telling you to start with xy(z) because imo its the best season, but im also not sure about that because part of what makes xy(z) so great is the fact that after all the seasons, hes the most mature and smartest he had ever been. It gave a feeling of "this ash is so cool! He's the culmination of everything he's learned!"

Pokemon is actually longer than One piece but it's a good series xy and xyz being my favorite series but like others have said it's so good because it does show how much ash has grown over the series, despite him never ageing and being 10 throughout the entire series

I don't know if there's words to quite describe the feeling of seeing Ash's development. There were a lot of really poor setbacks and misscommunications in the writer's room, but it is satisfying seeing Ash change with each experience. When he first started travelling, he was a very human, relatable kid. Some of his big worries were: "I'm back home and my mom will probably want me to help with chores. Time to bail." Also: "The guy who bullied me when I was little is also a trainer. I've gotta beat him at least once." By Series #6, he squared off with a Nazi on top of the Eiffel Tower and asked: "Who are you to decide who lives and dies?" And his Pikachu? That little mouse was intimidated by a slightly bigger mouse at the start of the story. By Series #7, he was considered a rival to a Storm God in strength. And he beat that Storm God in a head on assault where they both fired all the lightning they had. And that's even before Ash makes the transition from competing in local regional tournaments to getting in the World Series. It was a big deal when they finally wrote a decisive closing arc for the character. He's been on his journey of self discovery longer than Luffy has been chasing the title of Pirate King. Now he's finally allowed to rest. Btw, for the XYZ theme song, do yourself a favor and look up the Japanese theme song. It was a hard rock banger, and it is one of my absolute favorite theme songs.

XY has 3 seasons in its own arc. Pokémon XY, Pokémon XY:Kalos Quest and Pokémon XY&Z (from the three intros you saw). So you need to watch them in that order. And yes, when it comes to battling and animation, XY was peak. I also like the characters in those seasons as well.

I watched Pokémon Indigo League & Pokémon Black and White at 4, Pokémon XY and XYZ at 9, and Sun and Moon at 10, and all I can tell you is that, out of all the openings, Indigo League will remain the MOST iconic and MOST memorable. Ash's roasts in the first show was amazing and funny as well, and 4 year old me got my roasts from Indigo Ash. My favorite companions out of them all is definitely: Misty, Brock, Bonnie, Clemont, Cilan, and Iris. I just grew up with them. I remember having Iris's Axew being my favorite, idk why though lol. 7 months ago, AKA when I heard that Ash and Pikachu's journey was ending, I was sad and just in denial. I was like: "Nah, I bet this is clickbait or a late April Fools, or something to just get views, there's no way." And then multiple articles went up about it, and then JAISON PAIGE, the man, the myth, the legend who sang the Pokémon Indigo League theme, even confirmed so himself, and THAT'S when it hit me: Yup, Ash's adventures are really leaving, even after 25 years. As heartbroken as I was, I guess with each new generation, comes a new Pokémon protagonist. We Gen Z's grew up with Ash, and the Gen A's will grow up with Liko. (Even though I gave my Gen A cousin the GIFT of growing up with Ash, by making him watch Indigo League and Sun and Moon with me when I was 10 and he was 4). Goodbye Ash and Pikachu. Gone, but never EVER forgotten.

"Let there be a tournament arc" That's literally the whole focus of the show, Ash catching and training Pokémon, challenging gyms and collecting 8 badges to qualify for the regional tournament at the end every couple of seasons.

Current season is definitely the best of them all (and best japanese op too) So sad that a lot of fans don’t want change and dont want to acknowledge that it’s an excellent move to have ended Ash’s story. But anyway, since XY the series is improving each season

At the time of the opening that you asked the question, there were 251 pokemon that made up the first 2 generations... Now after 9 generations we are up to 1025 pokemon with a handful more likely to be added in next mainline game releasing next year (adding on to Generation 9. A larger number will be added when Generation 10 comes along in the future)

Grew up on gen 3-4 to 7, then gave up on the anime but came back when Ash challenged the champions. XY was my favourite theme.

10:30 unfortunately the english openings from the Sun and Moon series never got full length versions because the Sun and Moon series never got its own movies for each season. Instead when Sun and Moon was airing, they were working on the 2020 Pokemon Gotta Catch Em All movie, so no movies were made for Sun and Moon specifically. Pokemon Journeys does have full length versions but not because it has movies for full length openings, but rather because the openings are just edited parts of an actual full song.

there's gotta be close to 1000 pokemon by now, highly recommend the games if you've never tried them, they're cute & fun but can also be pretty challenging especially for those who haven't learned all the types & matchups & things like that. my first Pokemon game was FireRed, which took place in the Kanto region where Ash is from and where the first series begins. I mostly play the switch games nowadays but I have most of the DS games, Black/White and Sun/Moon are some of my favorites to go back to. there's also a Pokemon manga which contains more graphic violence than the tv series or games, they're pretty interesting. I hope if you start watching the tv series you'll end up enjoying it as much as I did! :)

If you want to, you should check out the Japanese themes for the Pokémon anime, they’re fire!

I would recommend starting from Diamond and Pearl, that is my personal favorite as well as being a fan favorite, and the journey with paul being ash best rival ever is so worth it to watch. I say that because if you start at xy, you will miss out on so much good stuff that happens before, and I know that you are into top tier animation and I know that XY really starts to kick off with the animation, but its worth it to watch the rest of the show before that, because there are many important characters that appear in journeys that you won't understand if you don't watch from earlier on, especially paul.

And 9:19 you're dead on. The animations for the battles have always been great. But the XY series as a whole, they upped the efforts amazingly. Absolutely sublime. XYZ felt like a major step forward for the show, making it very close to a "true" Shonen anime like your other shows like DBZ/AOT/MHA etc. That's partly why Sun and Moon was so panned at first because it seemed like they aged the show with the fans finally then went backwards. But the stories of Sun and Journeys are some of the best in the series so it makes up for the "younger" animation looks.

XY would be good but I think you still need to start with the 1st series “the indigo league” just to see how Ash and pikachu starts out their adventure and him getting his more iconic Pokemon

I recomend you the opening 123 4th version. Is the japanese version of the last song were Ash appears and is very hype.

If you ever watch/react to the series, I highly suggest going in order so you aren't left in the dust by some of the newer plots.
