One of the most unique and specialized ships in the BSG universe . Always a big fan of this ship and the soundtrack " Last battle of the osiris " is an absolute banger !

I never liked the fact that it only had one landing/launch bay door. One bolter and you'll slam into the back wall.

I missed Dan's voice on Spacedock videos. It's probably just because it's a BSG entry similar to the ones made for Deadlock but it was extremely refreshing hearing Dan's voice.

Always liked this design. Very submarine-like in its hull shape, which fits with this stealth/recon/support role.

The only odd thing about this is why its designated as a Battlestar.. the Colonial fleet has other ship designations like cruisers, destroyers, escorts.. This is clearly a frigate or a light cruiser/destroyer.. its like if in WW2 i do a small lighty armoured warship wich favours stealth and speed over firepower or armor and call it a pocket battleship

Ah yes, probably the only "submarine in space" one can easily find in fiction. Carriers? Millions of them. Battleships? Billions. Submarine? This girl alone;)

That basestar that the Osiris goes up against is pretty cool. It’s a shame that we know nothing about it.

You forgot to mention that part of it's stealth design is the ships heatsink feature, that renders the ship invisible from a thermal perspective too.

Its side profile looks almost exactly like the CIS Malevolence from the Clone Wars series, if you flipped the rear bridge tower on that ship upside down.

Good video - Having just watched the recent Dune film, it would be really interesting to see your take on the ships, tactics and analysis over the overall battle in the film.

It’s actually based on the original concept art of the First Battlestar Galactica way back in the 70’s but it was passed over. I always thought it would’ve been cool back in the 70s that Galactica would discover a derelict fleet of these types of Ships later to be used as A support fleet for the Battlestar

Man, Deadlock needs to let out a micropatch that makes the Orion hulls shine/shimmer... (Also allowing personal naming of off-line warships.)

In deadlock, these ships are a ton of fun to work with. They're great for sneaking behind a fleet and finding a priority target (e.g. base star), then promptly destroying or crippling it with a nuke before rejoining the rest of the main fleet.

I always saw this ship as a BSG mix of a Nuclear Submarine and an Aegis Cruiser so it is not for asymmetric warfare more as a electronic scouting and infiltration platform. Love the video though.

I get the impression that the Orion was a hasty refit of a civilian ship since most of the resources for Colonial Fleet would've been going towards refitting the surviving Jupiter IIs, hence the protruding bridge, extremely small size, and lack of flight pods.

Hey Spacedock, I have an incredibly important question here. There is a webnovel I have read a fair portion of named "The Legendary Mechanic". In said novel starting at chapter 536 and ending at chapter 543, there is a combination of atmospheric and non-atmospheric combat sequences between several frigate class ships and a personal stealth ship siding with the MC and 11 enemy ships of assault class followed by a number of other ships. The MC is a mechanical specialist and ends the combat sequences by invading the enemy databases using his 'hacking' skills and shuts down all systems on the enemy ships. My question is, what are your thoughts on the usage of virtual intrusion in space combat?

A flotilla of three would be idea for deep penetration strikes against Cyon infrastructures and logistic chains. About the only issue is having the supplies available. That may be remedies by prepositioned caches.

I suspect the missile interceptor pids were part of the ground base defense grid to defend the colonies from cylons air raids and then installed in the vessels late in the war . ( seems logical).

I'm wondering if the reason it's labeled a Pocket Battlestar is more for morale than anything else. You can make your fleet seem stronger without spending as much as you would on a traditional Battlestar.

Is it ever confirmed that the Orion class has a battlestar designation? In deadlock it's classed as a stealth frigate, which is way more appropriate for its role. The descriptor "pocket battlestar" could just be because it has the capability of launching vipers and covering them with flak fire. But these might serve as a complement for its tasks of subterfuge and surveillance, much akin to modern day submarines

This is the most badass ship ever made. It's like "we know we couldn't win but we try anyway". It's easy for a proper battlestar to say "we are the winners', because that type of ship could do anything. But the Orion... Just Badass.

Those Orion class Viper units must have been filled with all of Starbucks brothers and sisters.

Ah. The profile image used in the thumbnail made me think this was a ship from Star Wars. Although, it also shares a resemblance to the hover craft used in The Matrix.

I bought a laptop just so I could play Deadlock properly and I think it's about time I get on with that. BSG had a lot more depth than the shows give it credit for.

Haven't played Deadlock in a while... did they patch the game and re-classify the Orion class as a battlestar? When the DLC with this ship first came out, it was classified as a light frigate; no flak or ordinance interceptor missiles; light gun batteries.. IIRC, they even went out of their way in the description to note that "pocket battlestar" was a derogatory term for the class, based on it being used in ways outside its designed purposes. In short, they nerfed it. It creates a weird problem, because Deadlock is supposedly canon but... so is Blood & Chrome? I'd lean the former, as I think B&C just put too much 'stuff' onto one ship.

Fun fact: in BSG: Deadlock, this ship has a PUNCH? Like, those light guns hit harder than you think and they're SO FUCKING ACCURATE? They just...sweep the skies clean of enemy fighters, then rip ships to shreds.

It's too bad they chose to do Caprica instead of a 1st Cylon war series, I would liked to have seen more of the Battlestar variations in action.

Makes me wonder if some of Orions survived the first attack of the second war and were trying to engage in guerrilla war

I do enjoy this ship and im a big fan of Battlestar galactica especially the OG series and reboot... well of at least a good chunk of it. But I feel like there's a few too many uses of battlestar, like pocket battlestar seems more a valk thing, since it actually fits into that role. Orisis seems like a stealth heavy frigate. I also love it in BSG deadlock but with how cancerous certain modes (propaganda cough cough) are they get a bit cheesy in them. Great game though, id totally like to see a game with its features but outside of BSG so we dont get this sort of stagnation that comes from the copyright. Like BSG deadlock has so much potential but being tied to BSG unfortunately makes it a hard game to have the creative liberty needed to reach that potential.

Pocket Battlestar? I always thought the Valk Class was the Pocket Battlestar.
