Just being honest, I’m 62 years old and fell in love with the original Battlestar Galactica as a teen. Starbuck was by far my favourites character and when the reboot made Starbuck a woman, I was pissed. I learned to eat humble pie when I saw the reboot. The cast was unbelievable, the twist and turns stories wise was simply amazing. Everyone involved in this series has every reason to be proud. Fracking good job.

I accidently met Edward James Olmos outside a restaurant in Encino, CA. Having just finished breakfast, I was putting my riding gear on when he had just gotten out of his car right next to my motorcycle. Right before I put my helmet on, he wished me a safe ride. One of those moments where I was stunned, but also not stunned by a movie star in that he was so chill. It's good to know that he was "Admiral" behind the scenes as well.

I AM SO GLAD toward the end that James Callis comments on Gaius Baltar's last on-screen moment. That one moment is one of the most brilliant character turns in the whole series. It cannot be overstated -- the score by Bear McCreary is still the best TV score of all time, and it's not even particularly close.
@KaitainCPS
@KaitainCPS Год назад
What tends to get forgotten is that the musical sound of the show was created by Richard Gibbs for the 2003 miniseries, with McCreary as his assistant. He was asked to return full-time when the show was greenlit as a full series, but he had to pass as he had other commitments. He recommended McCreary be given the sernior job. It worked out extremely well, and McCreary deserves his plaudits, but Gibbs made a big mark on the show by going in such a distinctive direction for the pilot. Some of the cues from the miniseries are outstanding - not only "Are You Alive?" which became the leitmotif of Six whenever she appeared, but also "The Storm And The Dead" (when they're laying out the dead before approaching Ragnar Anchorage), a stellar piece of work with a plaintive choral component.
@lucemiserlohn
@lucemiserlohn Год назад
@@KaitainCPS That is not quite accurate. The only music of Gibbs the show used was the original main title (Colonial Anthem), all the original music was written by McCreary. IIRC Gibbs turned them down from the start, and had a hand in suggesting McCreary, but ultimately did not work on the show.
@Lykw1dSloth
@Lykw1dSloth Год назад
@@lucemiserlohn The soundtrack for BSG Miniseries was largely scored by Gibbs (his name is the only one listed/credited on the soundtrack as well). However, McCreary took it to another level (several actually) on seasons 1-4 & the films. Even the score he did for Caprica was amazing (as well as Outlander & everything else he works on). McCreary put so much thought & passion into his work on BSG & boy does it show.

One of the things that seems odd now: Gaius Baltar was originally not conceived as a comedic character at all; he was just going to be a regular, straight-laced dramatic character. But when James Callis started delivering some of the lines in a semi-improv comedic style that made people laugh while still serving the plot, they realized they could write for Callis's specific take on Baltar, and he quickly became the character as we now know him.

Roslin and Adama's relationship does so much - shows the need for humility and not narcissism by those in authority, shows the need for separation of powers, shows how that separation can and should be beloved by those served by it. I fully agree with the recommendation to watch the Expanse. It's very well done and well written. Today's great writers can write great stories but they are not being hired due to diversity hiring for non-writing-skill based qualities. But there are a few great shows being produced occasionally. The first season of West World was amazingly awesome. Andor is superb, surprised the heck out of me coming from Disney, the horrific woke nightmare that they have become.

10:46 I was born in 1972 and watched the original BSG as it came out. It helped inform my childhood. So, when I say that Katie Sackoff IS Starbuck, the Starbuck in my head canon, the only Starbuck, understand it's saying a lot. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜 I've watched this series 4 times start to finish. It's Peacock's only reason imo.

This show was part of an important period of my life. I was a university student, watched it (together with other shows but BSG was the diamond of all) in my student dorm with my roomies. It was so intense, if I remember correctly there was also the writer guild strike and we had to wait for the continuation. My roomie and I were always trying to oredict the plot twists and whats happening next to the characters and storyline. As the show ended, I was overwhelmed by feelings. It carried me for the most part of my university time. At the end of the year I had to make the decision to leave university and start a new life back at home. Never regret it but it was a wonderful time, the show truely was a big part of it

True fact, before Ron Moore took on BG, he was given carte blanch to do anything he wanted to do, and he chose to do Anne McCaffery's Dragon Riders of Pern. He got so many corporate "suggestions" from the studio execs, that at some point he told then "Never-mind, if I make all the changes you want, its not Dragon Riders of Pern anymore."

Couple years ago when covid was still scaring everybody I was talking to a coworker that had just came back from covid. I was the last person in our department that hadn't had it, and still haven't to this day, and when they asked how I had dodged getting sick I thought about it for a second or two, and just blurted out, "Must be the cylon blood!" Now if you want to baffle people, and also find others that have watched the show, that's how it's done, because that's what I got, was several huh's? and one other that just started laughing.

It’s a completely different take on the story. 40 years later with different actors, writing and technology. One version of Starbuck doesn’t need to be better than another. They are simply different.Played by very different actors and of course gender, which alone put a different perspective on the outcome.

Absolutely agreed. And Dirk Benedict sadly turned out to be a massive tool - remember the piece he wrote that was basically a rant against feminism in general and more specifically Katee Sackhoff being cast as Starbuck? If you don’t, don’t worry - it was epically dumb.

I’m glad they brought that up around the 37 minute mark. I’ve seen Katee in a bunch of different roles, but this one just seemed to have more character than others. I got the feeling she wasn’t really having to try all that hard to act like Starbuck because she IS Starbuck.

The entire series reboot was great, but the ending episode was pure geniality. Ronald D. Moore was able to link their show, with our real world in a way that the original show couldn´t .By using the Ancient Astronaut theory, and the Mithocondrial Eve discovery , he gave us the best finale, cause we recognize that the problem of Kobol and the 12 Colonies is replicated in our planet Earth(poverty,over population,contamination, and the rise of the A.I). So, they used images of the Atlas robots, of Boston Dynamics, and the Asimo robot of Honda , and many others real robots as an example of what happened to Kobol may happens here too. Now, just 20 years after the last episode, we got Chat GPT, and others A,I that may become self aware, not to mention the new Boston Dynamics androids and the new russians combat robots. So, in words of the cast,it seems we are Frack...hahahaha. Greetings from Chile. You guys, are awesome 🙂😉😊. (PD: Nice detail using Jimmy Hendrix song, for the last scene)

Same here! I initially watched it with a roommate friend of mine back in 2016 (yes, right before that infamous election) and just finished re-watching it with my wife a few weeks ago. It will stand out as a timeless and extremely well executed TV series and arguably one of the best ever of the genre. As stated by the cast and series creator, the real beauty of the show is in the cohesion of the ensemble cast and the relevant themes that they portrayed. Best TV reboot ever, in my opinion!

One of my favorite side notes about this show was seeing the Serenity from Firefly through the window as Laura Roslin is learning she has cancer. This told me Ron Moore was a Firefly fan. I honestly was never a fan of the original, but I absolutely loved this remake/continuation series. What I find so fascinating is how, season after season, the story evolves and becomes more interesting and, as Ron Moore says in this reunion, makes you want to tune in and find out what happens to the characters. Many series fizzle over several seasons as the writing seems to run out of ideas but not with this series. The casting and the writing were brilliant and the chemistry between the actors was phenomenal. I loved everything about BSG 2004.

wow I just relived how I felt watching Battlestar Galactica. I'm old enough to have seen the original when I was 10yrs old and the reboot which was one of the best reboots I'd ever seen, as a movie and a series. There were so many stories of humanity, so many side plots that they episodes without fights didn't feel like filler. I loved all of the characters and was so invested in their lives. I was so in love with Tricia I was so disappointed that they decided to send all of their ships into the sun, and remaining crew couldn't find present day people. They had space ships, warp travel, artificial intelligence and nuclear weapons while Earthlings were still hunting with spears! How far could humanity had advanced if we kept some of the the tech

I was too young to see the newer version when it came out, and stumbled upon the newer version as a teenager. I must say, it still holds up and the show is unfortunately still relevant today as it was nearly 20 years ago. In fact, I’d say it is more relevant now than it was then.
