Glen ('Larceny')Larson's original was a poor attempt at emulating Star Wars and failed to impress me. However, I stumbled upon the reimagined Battlestar Galactica series by Ron Moore and was blown away by its amazing effects, detailed writing, and characters. I know I wasn't the only one who was pulled in, when - whilst waiting for the (delayed) final series, the first 3 were shown back-to-back, many times. That this was NOT a big, Hollywood film with a huge budget, but an episodic TV show, with top-notch work, all-around, and it showed what could be done, was amazing. There's special effects in it which were far superior than some films, with stratospheric budgets. I was hooked, and when it ended, I eagerly awaited Caprica though I liked it, as it didn't start with something as spectacular as the mass destruction of the 12 colonies, the 'suits' were felt was there wasn't enough carnage and violence to make the (teen boys) stick with it. The last episode's last act (at Caprica stadium, and then the clips from what WOULD come) held out such promise. Blood & Chrome, showed great potential as well. I especially liked the new 'older' Cylon 'war' models (esp the one who was chasing Adama and the scientist through that food locker - with frozen human body parts, for later... projects). They were very well-done. Terrifying, in fact. Unfortunately, B&C wasn't ever given even a proper chance. It was killed before it aired, was originally shown as a multi-part web series, and only after all this, did it only ever get the chance to be properly seen; on a TV screen. Despite the delay, I am hopeful that the creative team on this show which has been in touch with Mr. Moore, and they will deliver something as phenomenal and well-done as his team's work. Mr. Moore's series set a benchmark and proved that SFX on a TV show could be phenomenal, setting the bar high for all aspects of TV production. I hope the executives realise that good writing is just as important as visuals, and they take their time to deliver something as exceptional as the Ron Moore-era series. Nope. This series takes place in a universe where the only intelligent life is humans and Cylons. It kept the series much more grounded and the storytelling tighter. Edward James Olmos actually said that he signed on as Commander Adama under one condition: no aliens. If they encountered any, he'd have his character collapse and die from shock and they'd have to write him off the show. 😂
