Some updates to my Battlestar Galactica fan film "Perseverance". Mostly audio fixes but there are two updated scenes. This project depends on your support - Ko-fi.com/peterhirschberg
I worked with Glen for the last few years of his life, and I know he would have absolutely LOVED what you've done here. He would have probably wanted to put you to work on a project. :)
For sure! And the centurions look terrific. And I should know... Glen willed me 3 chrome centurion costumes and two gold commander centurion costumes. @@peterhirschberg6557
Awesome to the very core!! I grew up with the original Battlestar Galactic. Love the colonial viper and the launch bay sequence!! Thank you for bringing back my childhood!!
Incredible .... Brings back so many good memories. Only thing I would have loved to see is a brief shadowy shot of the Imperious Leader, high up on his throne. Always loved that design.
Great work! Huge fan of the shows and the first show is truly an important landmark in TV history. The attention to the show’s music, drama and action is perfectly given here. Thank you for this artwork!!
This is what happens when you have someone who loves, respects and understands the source material. Beautifully done guys and thank you so much. Saw the original at 18 years old and you brought me back in time 👍
Wow! Better than the entire Disney SW sequel trilogy. And that’s an entirely different franchise. I would have rather paid to see this instead in the theater.
Absolutely stunning! There is so much love for the original version of Battlestar out there that Universal is losing out on making a fortune. The movie-going public is hungry for aerial dogfights with a good story - just look at the recent success of Top Gun: Maverick. Disney has wasted so many opportunities with Star Wars since they acquired it that Universal could step in and produce a killer Battlestar movie that would clean up at the box office. Peter is a frakkin' video genius. Thank you so very, very much.
If i remember correctly John Dykstra wasn't expecting the network to want a television series, it was originally planned only to be a couple of made for TV movies, but the network wanted mor@williammitchell4417
Beautiful and stunning, really takes me back I always preferred the original series to Moore's poorly written thing which always seemed to be searching for a purpose, and a believable plot line.
The RDM series had two really good years. Then it seemed like they ran out of scripts and had no idea where they were headed. This is a common problem with current shows. They don't write all the way until the end of the series. This is why Bablylon V held together so well - there was a writer's guide that plotted all the major action points for all five years before they even started.
Dude thats close to perfect. You nailed the mood, theme and aesthetics of this show. It might be just a minor detail but the Viper turbo blasts are gorgeous and the angles and perspectives of the Cylon raiders approaching the Galactica blew me away. Last but not least you used the music and sound effects perrfectly. Much appreciated what you did here.
@@doqas A Cylon Raider is a bomber craft that requires a navigator/bombardier, a pilot & and an officer sitting in the command chair. The reason why there are no single-pilot Cylon craft is explained in the 1978 BSG annual (which is based on the Pilot movie that was distributed to international cinemas). In the annual it is explained that the Cylons are actually reptilian-cyborgs. The Cylons were a blind reptilian race which is why their helmet has a 'red scanner' to enable them to see (provided by their Imperious Leaders who were a caste of Cylon who had the ability of sight). It is also the reason why the Cylon Centurion have respirator face-plates on their helmets, as well a life-support backpack because they are partially organic (the Cylons were also a proud warrior culture which is why they have swords & wear a 'skirt-type' flap on their belts). The successive Imperious Leaders had cybernetic implants installed into the Cylon brains to make them more obedient and disciplined warriors. However the result was that it made the Cylon centurion's reactions slow, affecting their accuracy, as well as their responses. This is why the Cylon raider craft requires 3 Centurions to pilot them. The ABC TV execs rejected the ' reptillian-cyborg' Cylon concept for the TV version of the pilot and had an extra scene inserted where it is explained that they are a fully robotic race of beings that were once the servants of a long dead race of reptilian beings called Cylons (even thought this contradicted the fact that the Cylon warriors are using respirators and wearing 'cultural' touch as swords & skirts). This TV studio enforced concept was due to TV rules at the time which forbade family TV shows to have excessive killings and deaths, which also included any fanciful concepts such as 'reptilian-cyborgs' etc. I personally disliked the 'fully robotic' concept of the Cylons that the TV studio Execs insisted on and preferred Larsons original concept etc. However he novelisations of the BSG series episodes, as well as the tie-in albums all retain Larson's original Cylon concept (which is also retained in the 'cinematic' version of the original BSG Pilot)
All of this video, especially at 3:52, took me back to 1978, laying on itchy shag carpet, smelling Dad’s cigarette smoke, while gazing at a massive Zenith television with a surprisingly small screen. Thank you for all of your hard work on this project.
Great work! Your CGI modeling and effects are flawless! Add a few scenes with actors in costumes and you could surpass the original series. I miss Lorne Greene and Richard Hatch.
Excellent work once again. This kind of fan work can be taken a step further. The premise of the 'What if' scenario could be explored. For example, 'What if' the civiian ships were each issued with a Laser Turret similar to the Galactica's Turrets (via workshops aboard the fleet)? Seeing Cylon Raiders approacjhing the civilian ships only to be met by 200+ Laser Turrets via the civilian ships would be awesome to behold! Individually the cvilian ships are weak but together can rival the defensive firepower of a Battlestar! As a TOS BSG Fanboy I have always wondered about the 'what if the colonials did this scenario?'.
This is so beautifully done. Creative and thoughtful in its presentation. I love the Raiders bobbing and weaving through the fleet, the Viper cockpit POV scenes as the pilot views the battle around him, and the shots from new perspectives, such as the top-down attack at 10:01. The most beautiful scene is at 14:09. We have seen this one before, but it was well wroth including again. It really underscores how small and vulnerable the fleet is, a few specks amongst the stars. Thanks so much for creating and sharing this. What a shame that CGI wasn't available to Mr. Larson in 1978.
Really exceptional work. Thanks for the memories! If the original Base Stars didn't rotate like that, they really should have! I also think you made better use of those quick zooms than the 2003 series did.
Very well done! I'm impressed at the modern special effects used to make something that respects the original work and doesn't stray outside the box just because you could. There's even film grain and I swear, some hairs on the lens in some of what would have been miniature shots! This is a great piece of work, you've really captured the visual language of this show and its era. I'm just a little disappointed the story didn't include characters, there's only so much that you can vehiculate with... well, vehicles. The Cylons brought some well needed dialogue, and the later part featuring some humans helped, it just suffers from the lack of their presence in the opening moments. Still, amazing cinematography. Love to see more!
Amazing stuff, lovely attention to detail, recreating many of the original model FX shots, but adding some new ones in too. Thanks for uploading and for sharing your amazing talent.
I have always maintained that THIS version of the Battlestar Galactica was always more reflective of what a true warship would be. Not organic or curved like the reimagined Galactica. But with pipes and conduits and corridors and bulges and things unknown dotting it's "landscape". That's where the reimagined Galactica fell flat. If you were going to make a tribute to BSG TOS, then they should have given Adama a new "Mercury" Class Battlestar which actually does embrace quite a bit of the TOS Galactica. But as for this tribute? Fantastic!!! I wish there would be a new BSG, but with ships like the original TOS. Sure they can take a "few" liberties and perhaps clean up the TOS Galactica. Maybe make it a bit more modern. But not a complete redesign. And don't regress the technology!!! Let it have laser cannons and energy weapons. Modernize the Vipers and add Raptors. Also, they need to keep the original Cylon Basestars! And don't make them "humanity's creation". Make the Cylons truly alien! A race of cybernetic being who conquered their creators. The original TOS story was that! Even use the reimagined Cylon Raiders and above all bring back Lucifer!! The IL series machine who hated, but worked with the traitor Baltar.
Edit: To clarify, if they were going to do a tribute to the reimagined series, they should have given Adama command of a "Mercury" Class Battlestar. The Pegasus looked much closer to the TOS Galactica.
If they had done battles like this in the show, it would have lasted much longer. The only thing I would have liked to see was the Viper start-up. But 11 out of 10
This video deserves more likes. This was amazing. The special effects, to each scene, the immersive sound quality. I played this on a 65 in OLED with complete surround sound. You did a fantastic job.
Absolutely terrific. I was always a sucker for spaceship porn (the good kind)! Fun times with the original show, and while I prefer the later show (2004) overall, the ONE thing I didn't like was the loss of those Cylon flying wings and base ships of the original. Thank you for the hard work you put into this!
Bravo, Bravo. Thank you for all your hard work, and thanks for the nostalgia, my childhood is alive again 😊 thank you so very much . This video is a masterpiece.
Nicely done good work I’m thankful you took it from the original series not from the remake. I’d like to see this in a real show. Even Animated be good as we’ve shown from Star Trek lower decks. There is a space for animation and slightly cheaper than live action don’t forget that, thanks for the fun. Hope you see more from you soon.
universal should get their act together and start doing a proper adaptation of the original show here we have a fan that's taken a lot of time and effort for those of us that still re live what was really great about this show the original series, while Moore's series was stunning i found the story as it progressed through the seasons very dark and to me seemed to get worse towards the end of its life, the effects that this one fan has produced is amazing for what he has done there's a lot of pride in it and i appreciate the effort taken top stuff
Wooooderfull, Faaaaantastic job Pal, a Real tribute for this great Classic show. Unfortunly Universal did not remake the effects of the original series. Dam bastards.
This brought me to tears, honestly. Especially the music between 03:30 and 05:10 Where is it from? Concerning that part I would have the following editing suggestion. (It's just what I was expecting at those moments). In line with the music around 4:27 I would have expected a cut to some other epic scene and then later, say at 04:32 or 04:36 or 04:40, cut back to the zoom out. Or maybe don't do it as people might get a heart attack. 🤩🥹 Incredible job. Keep it up. 4:50, again tears 😭😭
Thanks! The song is edited down from the track "Trauer" by Annette Focks, from the Ostwind soundtrack. I did put that in the credits fwiw. Glad you enjoyed the movie and hit the appropriate feels.
Did that Viper shoot hts own wingman down at 10:37? Nice improvement, but you have a few sound-synching issues and I'm not a fan of some of the nuG style swirly cam shots, but great work!
@@peterhirschberg6557 Ah, ok. Just looked like it. I thought maybe you were trying to recreate one of the old shots where they screwed up the film on the projection screen.
@@peterhirschberg6557 Yeah it's tough on finding good sounds, maybe get some clips off some videos. Don't know if copyright would kick in or not, seeing your doing a fan made film.
@@peterhirschberg6557 If you do it, make it a fair fight and a real slug fest. No Pegasus-style super missiles which destroy the basestar in one blast.
The absence of human figures is ok… except for the launchbay scenes… seeing a few personal or technicians would be nice… would it fit to the overall look?
@@peterhirschberg6557 Whether you have human figures or not Peter, your BSG film is an excellent piece of art. Certainly the finest tribute film of any franchise I have seen on RU-vid. Thank you for your perseverance on making 'Perseverance'
If you are interested in a voice actor, I know a few who are quite inexpensive. I'm a writer and I have been hiring the occasional voice actor or two for audio books. You could put in a few more talking scenes if you don't mind modeling some talking. I know that having character models talking is a whole other ballgame.
Thanks! Yes, I had originally planned for radio chatter during the combat scenes but it fell through at the last minute. My hope was I’d get enough donations from the ko-fi donation page I set up that I’d be able to hire some voice actors but so far only one person has donated so that’s not happening. I’d love it if you could recommend some voice actors. Contact me at the email address listed on my website, which can see on the watermark or end credits. Thank you!
