Perfect mood pacing, subtle yet efficient. Perfect understanding of the show's themes. Perfect choice of score. crazy.editing.skills. kudos man, this is the best fan made trailer for BSG on the internet!
I just wanted to say that I'm keep coming back to this trailer, for many many years; it's so well done, the pacing and everything. I hope you have a video editorial job or something, because it would be a big shame to waste your talent.
This means a lot to me! Thank you! I'm not actually working as an editor, but I have had the opportunity to work in the music department for a number of projects in LA. So, close! :P
Wow, thanks for the feedback everyone! I enjoyed making it (during the brutal hiatus between season 3 and 4, it was all I could do to keep sane). @ michel, if you're referring to Galactica's flak fire, that's from Resurrection Ship Part II. The Heavy raider and the guy jumping from gunfire is from Occupation and Exodus, respectively.
This is one of the best trailers I've ever seen. You need to do this for a living. I've watched this trailer about a hundred times, and I'll probably watch it a hundred more.
This trailer is absolutely brilliant, I have watched it countless times. I realize only today that from the pov of someone who hasn't watched the show, here Adama could appears as the main antagonist. Almost as if he had lunched the nuclear attack on the colony and then ruled the survivers, while freedom terrorists try to take him out. It fits surprisingly well.
This trailer is amaaazing. I absolutely love that you used music from the show. Unfortunately, I couldn't really hear the dialogue over the music... I knew what the sound bites were though and you made some great choices. This trailer really highlighted the parts of this show that make it great and not just the action or the storyline which most BSG fan made trailers do.
This may not be professionally made, but it's a lot more effective and more representative of the show's strengths than any official trailer I've seen. I've gotten a lot of people hooked on the show thanks to this fanvid!
Some news: this video, in it's first submission, has made the finalist list in the Creative Junkyard Awards! Huge thanks to freezeframe25 for letting me know about this event! Thanks everyone for your support! :)
The music is from the show's actual soundtracks. There is a list of tracks I used at the very end of the video at 3:55. Extraordinary score, don't you think?
I know...the balance didn't seem that far off on the preview...but then, my program sucks. And there's nothing I can do about it now, since I lost the project files. Oh, well.
This is great! I havent seen a bsg trailer that even comes close to showing how awesome the show is, this one is pretty darn close! I love the part in the beginning with Athena, perfect way to catch the attention of someone who hasnt seen the show but is interesteed. What program did you use to make it?
@captaincmorgan I used Video Edit Magic. Quite honestly, I would not recommend it unless you don't have the money to buy a better program. It's nowhere near as versatile as other programs. I only used it because it was the only one that didn't crash after a few minutes (like Windows Movie Maker). And thank you!
I worked and created and HD remake mostly the same as your trailer, I am a huge fan of your work and I wanted to see if I could recreate the best parts of your work in high def, I've placed it in the video responses :)
Yeah, it's my cheap-a** video editing program. It's just plain out of synch whenever I cut a track. I did my best, but that one loose frame in the middle of the explosions just didn't want to leave. I couldn't do much about it.
hello, I really need help. Does anyone know where the clip at 3:37 where the Viper mark 2 is doing a barrel roll to avoid being shot by a pursuing Cylon raider is from? which episode. kthxplz
It also had social allergory and complex thematic ideas that you rarely see in other dramas - some that you can only use when you're writing scifi. I had better stop writing about this show before I take up the whole page.
Usually vids like this on youtube suck balls. Not this one though, good work. Then again, you had great material to work with :p Ahh BSG, I love you so :)
with your permission I'd like to take it upon myself to create a remastered version of this trailer with better audio, hd video, and a change in font to something that looks a little bit more professional. Otherwise I'll do everything in my power to keep everything else exactly the same.
I don't see why all sci-fi shows have to be the same. It would be rather boring that way. And sure, the old show was great at what it did, but it was a little too cheezy for my tastes. I'll take the occasional bad script that comes with the new package, when it also comes with fantastic special effects (exactly because there wasn't a battle every episode), mostly good acting, consistently wonderful directing and editing, and a score that is better than any others that I've ever heard on TV.
the new bsg was glorious. the greatest show ever made. period. i tried watching the original, which i liked as a kid, but it's beyond awful now. i couldn't even finish it.
This was a really good trailer, but the only thing that stopped it from being perfect was the font you used when you added the text. It looked too amateur-ish and plain. If you added some effects, or a better quality font it would have been a lot more effective
Human ones do not count, worst move of all time to make them boring humans. The thin robot version looks okay but gets a total of 30 seconds air time every six months.
If I was your age I'd probably like it as well. My point is that if it's going to be nothing like the original, call it something else. Starbuck being a girl along with Cylons being human has to be the worst ideas of all time. The original had a great blend of serious parts, action parts and humorous parts. The new version is full of horrid wooden acting and bad writing that is common today. We got ENOUGH dramas, reality crap and soap opera type TV today, keep it away from the sci-fi universe.
You were born in the late 80's so you are used to that horrid wooden acting so I don't blame you for liking it, that's what you grew up with. The music is different I agree but it's not nearly enough compensation for Starbuck being a girl or Cylons turning into boring humans. Agree to disagree yes, I hate dramas and soap operas.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The musical score alone is enough to push this show into the "landmark series" status. And horrid wooden acting? Sorry, but Michael Hogan, Kate Sackoff, Mary McDonell, Edward James Olmos, and especially James Callis can act circles around anyone in the old show. Dirk Benedict was god awful. Richard Hatch was decent (and also had a part in the new show, mind you - one of their many respectful homeages to the old series).
The new one is far to serious, horrid wooden acting and terrible writing. The original had a great blend of action and humor not to mention Cylons. If I was your age I'd probably like it so I can't blame you for being a fan. TV was written so much better years back. FAR to many dramas on TV today, no need to bring it into the sci-fi world.
