I thought it was my wonky internet cutting out at first, then I realized the clock was still progressing - until the wonky internet died again (and I had to finish the video at my daughter’s place).
ComStar interruptions in the HGP transmission for the bigger factions wanting to get on with their communiques. The snobs deem information regarding the Fronc Reaches of lesser importance.
I like the Fronc Reaches mostly because the region is basically the setting for the first chunk of HBS Battletech, until you start focusing on the Directorate-held planets. Hell, Detroit was one of the four systems you were limited to before the Canopans start paying the bills.
We were just talking about that on Twitter concerning planets that are in the Fronc Reaches but also apparently a part of the HBS Battletech faction that got its own sourcebook.
I wonder how the Aurigans are doing-two planets that were previously theirs seem to be in the Fronc Reaches, and the Capellans control some of their Coreward worlds, but the area is otherwise independent and settled as far as the maps show.😊
@@KillerOrca read what I said-from the actual maps of the region, on the wiki up to 3151, the region is largely unclaimed, with Coromodir and the bulk of the systems not under the control of any of the neighboring states (the Capellan Confederation, Fronc Reaches, and Taurian Concordat).
Im fairly certain that trap on Independence was also the surprise reveal of the TinStar battle armour. A truely nasty little surprise as it would've likely been the original production line with the MagShot/Support PPC and Clan Armor.
Another great video on yet one of my favorite factions. The Dark Age and ilClan era Fronc Reaches MUL is an excellent combination of Canopian, Taurian, Capellan, and other Periphery/House Star Leauge to Dark Age eta designs that makes it easy for anyone wanting to build a Colonial Marshal or Fronc Curiasser force. It's also fun to note that the Fronc Reaches produce an excellent Marshal variant called the 6FR. It carries 3 Medium X-Pulse Lasers, a Snub Nose PPC, and a Flamer with 15 DHS, max armor via Ferro-Fibrous, a Light Engine, and 6 Improved Jump Jets. They also field all of the other variants of the Marshal, and apparently managed to retain or buy the Pillager assault mech so beloved by the Capellan Confederation.
I love it when people add new things that didn't make the video. It makes me want to dive back in and update the videos with all these good gems of knowledge.
I've always liked the New Colony region, I think mostly because more then one of the novels in the 90s took place there. As you referenced in the video.
Theres some 5 speaking mic cuts @17:40 ~ 18:50 in. I think it was an auto censor. This is making hyped for the Fronc Reachs idk why. Maybe because they're the least pirate like out of the Periphery. I also like how your music is ambient and mellow.
Oh they're definitely anti-Pirate... that's for sure. The audio bugs were introduced somehow in the youtube uploading process. My hard copy video doesn't have them. It's very disappointing to work 12 hours on something and get those little hiccups.
Not gonna lie; by the end of this video I was hearing "Big Iron" playing in my head. Another fascinating look at a less-known region of Battletech Periphery space. Also very slightly disappointed that I didn't hear you use the word "kerfuffle".
(Thank you for all the work you put into this video! It was great and I loved hearing about one of my favorite regions.) Nice! It’s good to see my home away from home represented in these lectures. I was born on a planet in the Magistracy only a jump or two from the Fronc Reaches. My families old house unit served there back when it was still the New Colony Zone and when we broke off from them to become a mercenary unit more than a few of our contracts were in the Fronc Reaches. Hells, we took part in the operations after the Battle of Independence to clear out some of those pirate nests they learned about by interrogation that jumpships computers. They were wary of hiring us at first because we were still a magistracy loyal unit even if we were mercenary but we won their trust through our professionalism and ironically enough House Cantrella helped foot the bill a few times for our pirate hunting. They probably spent more on building relations with the newly independent Fronc Reach than they did when they administered it. Anyway, as you’ve probably guessed I got a lot of my own views of pirates and bandits through service in the Reach. I know, hardly a shock. I admire the hell out of the Marshals and I’m always glad to serve along side them. Also our mercenary units good relations with the Marshals has opened a lot of doors for us with other employers and is one of the best recommendations we can get. Hopefully we’ll be hired back there again soon!
@@MechanicalFrog (Thanks! And thank you for responding. As much justice as you can, sadly as you said there isn’t a lot about the region out in lord. I really hope Catalyst changes that and they don’t end up like so many smaller states in Battletech. *Is still very angry over the Republic of Rasalhague, the Hanseatic League, Neuva Castile, and Umayyad Caliphate.*)
It's really the region I'd most like to see explored. A map with New Syrtis in a corner, Fronc all the way down and Canopus on the left, also includes Andurien, Taurus, Victoria (Detroit, Betelgeuse, Grand Base...) There's even a Sea Fox enclave eventually, for token vat people representation.
Never got why Marshal Dillion hates the MoC when it was Taurians who tried to jackboot them looking for Davions, and the worst pirates were ex-TDF who had a grudge against the Reaches for Jeffrey Calderon. His nemesis in OTP:Fronc Reaches was the leader of that band of Mad Bulls, but he blames the MoC because MIM interrogated him and his fellow cadets after the Uprising where the Protector of Taurus died and Magestrix of Canopus nearly did. Asshat. Hell it was Canopian Marshals who stayed on and kept going after the Declaration of Independence because the Bulls pulled out. It was Majesty Metals and Manufacturing and Detroit Consolidated Mechworks keeping their mechs running, and of course the MAF annexed Detroit. The Trinity Powers are the ones who built that Mech Factory and they weren’t going to give that up. Would they have rather had the Cappies or Bulls occupy it? Those bastards have issues with being gentle to those considered enemies of the State lol.
Ah, yet another fantastic stop on the Grand Tour of the Periphery. Loving the series (still holding out hope for that eventual pit stop with my favorite deep space Vikings, the JàrnFòlk). Again, top notch all the way around.
@@MechanicalFrog If it’s anything like the rest of the series it will be fantastic. The Periphery has always been my favorite region of Battletech space
Thanks for an update on this part of the Periphery. Truly, the only constant feature of the Periphery is changing boundaries. As a power armor fan, do you think it will become popular for the nations that can build them?
It has been popular through the dark age and into the IlClan era. As far as the tabletop game goes, once people figure out how good it is, everyone will run some.
It's a shame Jeffrey Calderon died there, since that led to the Taurian Concordat's decline into a paranoid and warmonger military dictatorship (with the Calderon Protectorate breaking off), though the Blakists had a lot of blame there as well.
I feel like I may use the Frac Reaches as a location now. Start in 3060 or so with common people being raided by pirates. Let them build up some gear and try and defeat the pirates. If they begin to fail, send in the Marshal's to help save the day. Sounds fun.
Ooh so the Froncs amde the Vedette tank?? That tank is so cool! ^_^ I remember it from Mw4; looked like a long head on a tank body. Also…that means in Battletech, some of those worlds are the Fronc Reach, that’s cool! I remember Detroit, Independence and such. Always helped the local government from time time to against the Capellans and etc.
Nation building is always interesting, and I believe the Periphery is a good place to make it happen. The Fronc Reaches seems a good place to start a new proto-state for the setting.
@@MechanicalFrog And we can worship freely, govern justly and grow vast fields of hemp for making ropes and blankets... - Yes, and marry our cousins. - Yes... what ? - What ?
Hello Frog. Although another fine video, there are a couple of breaks in the narrative from about 17:30 through 18:30. It might be worth the effort to 'fix' this by cutting the vocal track and re-narrating from the 17:30 point onwards. Otherwise, the video is well done, and the information intelligently laid out. I am sorry to see such a break in the vocal track, since, the Fronc Reaches are of particular interest to me, and one of the 'nations' listed in my own work, which establishes the Stygian Compact within the Perseus-Cepherus Cloud Complex. Stygia is a resource rich solar system with no habitable planets. And although it has several 'Terra' sized moons orbiting several gas giant planets, none have a breathable atmosphere. Which led to the establishment of deeply dug, tunnel complexes which became the early colonies that grew to merge into the Stygian Compact, and then to spread their protection over several other worlds that were folded into the new star nation by the year 3100. By 3150, Stygian produced battle armor, tanks, and even Mechs are being exported to nearly all the Periphery States, and to the governments of the Taurians, Canopians, and Aurigans.
always kinda liked this little periphery nation because it reminds me of early declaration of independence USA was like. Once you strip away all that mythologized past it was a violent place that was upset by the lack of (by the colonies perspective before they declared independence) seemly any interest to do anything but extract wealth from them by their parent nation and it was the enemies of their parent nation that gave them legitimacy on the world stage in large part; along with a very real fact that their parent nation just did not view them as worth the expense of holding onto.... yeah, I just think they're neat. That is to say if they Rasulehog them/ have and I don't know about it I will be upset because that is something fun that they have taken out of the setting now
Yep. I suspect an encoding error when I uploaded it. I'll need to do a full preview of each video from now on before I let them go live. It's disappointing.
"At least the Magistracy of Canopus isn´t doing anything strang... nevermind." LOL MoC is pretty much the equivalent to what would be a succubus queendom, in BattleTech. But that Battle Armor you showed there, i can´t find it on Sarna, is that just so new or a non-canon design? Looks cool.
@@MechanicalFrog And it´s the ONLY unit from that Guide that isn´t yet on Sarna... typical... But i had a couple of sound hang-ups after the 17th minute, is that on my end or do others have sound issues as well?
I don’t think they are officially canon, I have their sourcebook and I think it says somewhere in it that it’s not canon. But with Battletech who knows. I wish they were, I loved the game. I’ve wanted to request a video about them for a while. But I always felt weird about asking for that.
@@Bluehairedgirl89 Maybe the writers have something planned for the region that would have been Coalition space. But still, I hear you. A canon Aurigan Coalition/Directorate would be nice to have.
I love the video, but there are some odd audio dropoffs around the 18 minute mark. Not sure what they are. Your voice cuts out, but the music is still there.
Yes, there was an encoding issue when I uploaded it. From now on I will make sure to preview the entirety of a video after uploading it to RU-vid to keep it from happening again.
Humm, the Fronckies occupy the space south and west of the Aurigan Reach, so there could be some fun stories in the region regarding the politics of these smaller nations stuck between the Canopians, the taurians, the Capellans and the Feddies. Hummmm...
@@MechanicalFrog camo specs say's its the other way around, lighter brown base with splotches of darker brown/black. but either way, just paint 'em like pintos and you're more or less good lol
I always liked the franc regions, it would probably be more space arizona rangers meet the GDP and capitol growth of cannopus with a strong sense of independence and a deep hatred of criminals like the pirates they constantly deal with.
Yep, there were some audio compiling issues following an update in Audacity. Thankfully, I sorted them out and it hasn't been an issue for the latest videos.
@@MechanicalFrog The change in audio quality was noticable! Do you think you'll do a video on each of the states first domestic mechs? I'm painting up some mechs from the Proliferation cycle
The domestic Fronc Dollar trading at feckin 80 some percent of a c-bill is Really strong for a shmol periphery nation. Give's at least some idea of how much the leadership has invested in domestic production and economy
"Climb out and release heck" hahaha I'm sorry I can't take this seriously. There's no way that's the original word. It's surreal to hear a military story about violence, life and death, edited to remove as mild a word as "hell". I became retroactively surprised you said Gauss Rifle instead of pewpew mcshootys.
