So did I, NES advantage, 3rd grade, i didnt cuss back then, but i did say damn a lot, and I damned the corner of the controller in the carpet..that was a 30 dollar controller back then , my dad took out of my kazoo. It was on that stupid cart level with the jumps...ill never forget it! Still love the game though..
me and my friend tried two player at this game when we were kids. We kept punching eachother off the platform then we raged and turned it off. Not even past level 1.
I got Rare Replay and beat Battletoads Arcade with the unlimited continues. Tried the original and I’m stuck at that fuckin Turbo Tunnel. The music gives me anxiety when it pops up in Cinemassacre vids lmao
My best friend showed me Rare Replay one day, and we decided for the hell of it to try Battletoads in co-op. We freaked out when we beat the Turbo Tunnel. Unfortunately he quit after that and we didn't get to see how far we could have gone.
You have more patience with this game than I do. Damn hover bike levels kick my ass to the point of getting pissed and saying screw it and play something else
Extremely skilled gamer, Mike is. Without the internet, only Mike's circle of friends would be aware of his skill; instead the world knows his gaming skill with plenty of video proof.
there's flicker, it's just nowhere near as bad as earlier nes titles. You've gotta remember Battletoads came after the snes was out and devs at that point were dropping advanced chips into their carts. In the case of Battletoads it was using the AOROM chip developed by Chris Stamper of Rare
@@HKgaming86 in NES Nintendo never accepted anything but first party components and all the custom stuff was forbidden. So many great famicom games had to be downgraded to fit NES cartridge policy or because of financinal reasons, were never released outside of Famicom. SNES was the first one where they accepted custom chips on cartridge.
Weren’t you world record holder in speed run of this game TMR? You got more experience than most when it comes to this game, so I bet you know how hard it can be at times.
Never got past the speeder bike bs lol. Idk anyone who ever did. It's almost like they never ran test groups back then to see how many people could get past things. So many great games that were held back by cheesy ass levels most people noped out of.
I wish this game had a similar difficultly as the Earthworm Jim games. This game isn't just way too hard, especially in certain levels, but the controls aren't precise enough for this level of difficulty and it has problems like it being hard to know where you can and can't jump on the platforms, etc.
@DeadlyViper211 I think the console should be fine. More worried about the input lag caused by the HDTV than anything else. Im dead set on beating this game. I'll just have to find me a crt.
I just fired up my old Nintendo (actually my Top Loader, I have to lay my original NES against my adapter once i jimmy the cord in place :O But once i do it i just leave it plugged in). Anyway I popped this game in, used the 5-toad code AND on continues. I managed to get to the Clinger Winger stage (played every level) but had to start over. My next run i just took warps and eventually beat it. Remembered how damn difficult it is.......
8:48 Mike: "If I said that earlier, I'm definitely getting old." Most of us who grew up with NES are. You're only a few months behind me when it comes to age. I'm not entirely sure when your birthday is, all I know is it's later in the year.
I have not played this game in 30 years. I have never seen any of these levels. Great run Mike! I know playing Battletoads can turn anybody into a motherfucker!
@@LunalovaniaGaming No problem. Wise's music was always great and recognizable back then. Cobra Triangle is also a decent game, but is very difficult like Battletoads.
@@LunalovaniaGaming Was very frustrating indeed, the game gets insane after stage 20. I have beaten it, after quite a bit of raging lol. There are 2 cobra fights i think actually, one fairly early in the game and another very close to the end.
Awesome run. I always got stuck on Clinger Winger. No matter how fast I reacted, my cycle would lose speed. Never figured out why. If you're looking for a challenge, try *AMAGON* on NES, without using the Megagon powerup. The game is full of BS and not forgiving at all.
Wow, Mike's better at a NES game than me... :/ I rented Battletoads twice, just couldn't beat it. I thought I got stuck at the wall-jumping stage but maybe I got further, I'm not sure now. It's incredible it only takes an hour once you have the needed "git gud" experience... I guess I should take up the challenge again if Mikey can do it! :)
Holy crap this is impressive. I never even knew charging at enemies could take them out so easily. I would just play coop with my brother and smash the attack button with no real thought or strategy. I might have to revisit this game now.
Omg, forgot to say what a hell of a play through...... nice. Oh in level 8 you can bash the Suckas and Gassers with your pipe (where the 1-up is that you skipped). You CAN hit the Dark Queen when she's in tornado mode, I've done it, just has to be perfect.
Love how he beats this game all non chalant like its nothing which is nuts since its so hard! Shows he must have played it a TON! And the Dark Queen is hawt! 😍
I was playing some of them to prep for the new BattleToads. Mike makes my attempts look so bad, it's like I was watching another game. :D Still, this game is a hoot. The new game .... I'm glad Mike can help bring the old one in so people can see what the fans were asking for.
I played this game earlier today and didn't make it to the speeder bike level but i have in the past and am going to give this game another try. The challenge is what makes it fun but when things get hard in the game makes me want to quit and play something else sometimes. Great game i played it for the first time back in 1994 or 1995.
Enjoyed the play through so much, so many memories! 😢 Please play the other Battletoads games you mentioned in the future And give the newest one a try??? 🤞
It has to be said however the new game is the look of it is so off putting which is kind of important at least for me I hate this new era art style and if its not exactly a kids game it makes no sense to go that way so unappealing
at some point it was funny to call gamestop and ask for battletoads, they didnt have it, i had a friend that worked there and it got to the point of having to leave the phone off the hook, great game
After years of playing this game alone and with friends, we never once got past the ice level - i had no idea how much more game was actually still remaining.
I never once PLAYED the ice level. You can skip past it with the Turbo Tunnel warp, which is the easiest warp in the game to find. Likewise I never played the Inferno level, which is an EVEN HARDER racing level than Turbo Tunnel. Nobody mentions it though because most people never made it that far, and those who could knew to skip it with the snake pit level warp.
You are much better than me at this game, but the best thing to do is keep the BuzzBall in the corner and punch, punch, punch, until you pick it up. Take a few steps back and toss it back in the corner and repeat. You'll hit a bunch of those little smash hits before finally doing it in. I usually only lose a life or two. It's boring, but much safer. Also in the Gargantua Ducts level, when you are swimming away from the gears you can go into the holes right before the end of the each gear section and punch. You don't fall while punching. That way you don't have to time the A button to keep from falling on the spikes.
