Your videos helped me through a tough time in my life when I was suffering from AMPS and couldn't skate. Made it through and now I'm back on the board and loving life.

As a frequent customer of the floor and the physio.... I always try to rest up to avoid injuring further, then when can walk / stand comfortably, bodyweight exercises then PAD UP and lots of pumping round a mellow transition park (Verwood and West Moors is good for this) Secret is to not go full send too early. The joys of getting older is injuries last longer and stays with you for longer.

I fractured my arm at the elbow and then refractured the same spot 6 months later (different tricks).. this amounted to some serious time off and very knocked confidence. I got back to it though and have been wearing pads ever since. I dont know why I ever skated without them now..

Lol cause it seems way cooler and carefree without pads. Like yesterday at my local saw some cool guy no helmet, no pads, hell no shirt even, tattoos all over ripping it up in the 10ft deep bowl. I was like "woah" as I watched covered head to toe in pads 😂

Whaouh, gnarly slam dude. Happy you healed fast. I was badly injured last year, 6 months off with several sciatic crisis in a row (had a biiig herniated disc, painful stuff). I am 53 so I thought I'll never be able to skate or surf anymore. Went though surgery last November and I am happily back in business even if I am mostly just skating small transitions. Trying to take it easy with the purpose to be able to skate and surfer as long as possible!

Awesome lil mini ramp and good session! And wow the Minack theatre! What a stunning place to play 💕👏 I slammed hard a few months ago in the bowl and had to take like 6 weeks off. Super badly bruised or fractured ribs, messed up shoulder, wrist and leg 😆🤦‍♂️ hopefully no more slams like that for a while ✊🚪 heal fast! 🤙

Great video Jon. Looking smooth, particularly like your board slides and rock to fakies. Also enjoyed reading all the carnage in the comments! Im 49 and have had a few injuries in last few years, wrist, rotator cuff, teeth etc... and theyre no fun. But some how cant give this up. Skate or die 😂

I fully understand the trepidation. I savagely dislocated my elbow back in July and am really nervous about starting again. I've been looking for a time to get to the pump track to build some confidence as I'm far less likely to fall there, whereas at the ramp park it is almost guaranteed that I'll fall at some point and I really can't afford to knock it out of whack again. Glad to see that you're getting back to your usual form though.🤙

@@olitonottero7620 The surgeons couldn't tell me how stable my elbow will be but I need to do some strength exercises to help keep it together. Not to mention compression sleeves to help protect it. I definitely don't want it happening again.

@@JonBishopSkate A pump truck is always a good plan... Something I know I can actually do 😆 I'm having to give the whole transition thing some thought. DO I just accept that I'm crap and pack it in, or do I risk further injury and press on regardless? I know what I WANT to do, but not sure its the best idea

Only been once to the minack but loved it what a dream to perform there. Coincidentally also injured myself for the first time in a while, hanging up on a roll in in the bowl. Got the old swollen unbendable knee for a few days and the dastardly bruised palm which is going to suck some of the fun out a couple of gigs this week :( Makes me want to start wearing pads but I know I'll never consistently wear the heavy ones so going to try out those flexible gel like ones, hopefully they'll be comfortable enough to wear often and I'll have some cartilage left in the knees before I have to hang up the board !

you probably already know this, but ive seen people skate bowls like you do and they started with learning how to properly knee slide before learning any coping or air tricks. i think itll save alot of people from gettin hurt.
@JonBishopSkate
@JonBishopSkate 11 месяцев назад
Yeah dude, love the knee slide for the controlled bail, especially on the bigger transitions, the problem with this pool transition is, it’s quite tight, I can get the knee slide all things being equal, but for a full commit surprise, hang up, there just isn’t time for my big old frame and slow reflexes to get in place for the knee slide!

Dude, super inspiring vid! This part of UK looks so dope too with surf and skate parks. Yo, those fakie rocks are looking so controlled and decked! I'm way behind you, but a little "beta spray" (to use a climber term,) do you like fakie pop rocks? For me those always kinda put me in a more commanding position then they scary fakie roll into rock. Also the little air lands my front foot toward the nose for easier clearance on the rock back in. Good times, man, thanks for the vids!

Yeah, heat, restriction and convenience are the things that temp me not to wear pads, but if I’m gonna go anywhere outside the comfort zone they are a must !! I do think I skate better without pads, but it’s really uncomfortable when it goes wrong 😂

Hi Jon, been watching your channel for a few years now. Guitars and skateboards are my two big passions in life (unfortunately not at your level for both disciplines yet) so you're a big inspiration for me. I'm a bit younger (42) and decided to learn to skate transition last year after nearly 20 years off (only skated street when i was younger). Just out of interest, what fitness tracker are you using? My fitbit doesn't have a dedicated skateboard tracker...was wondering if yours does. Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Would love to see you do a video at my local park in Crystal Palace.

@@JonBishopSkate I dunno, I suspect so - but I think it would've happen anyways... Rails are great, don't get me wrong, they make some things really nice and stable, but they're made to slide (save the graphics after haha) so when it comes to miniramp coping *for my current level of skating which is pretty low* I feel that I really need to be extra precise. In other words, they scare the living shit out of me! F that! Let's do some Slappy's lol Cheers from Tel-Aviv, Israel :-)
