The most important part about decluttering and minimalist is after, the not purchasing anything and making new choices
@VidaDeJeremiah

As someone who has one of those "clean" houses you described you see in the videos, it doesnt stay clean without habits. I'm also a person like you where if I walk into another room with things I get distracted so I've adopted the mentality of do it now, otherwise I'll forget. When I cook food, I clean my dishes before I even sit down for dinner, dishes take at max 5 minutes, that's the perfect time to wait for your food to cool for you to eat. Once I eat dinner I immediately clean my plate I don't sit it in the sink to watch TV and clean later because then I know it wont get done. When I buy something from the store I immediately put it in the cabinets, when I receive a package I immediately open it up or stack it in the corner unopened, I dont open the box and then leave it in other packages. When I get the mail I read it immediately or put it on my desk so when I get back to work I know to take care of this first, I shred what I dont need, and store what I need in a portable portable folio. When I do my laundry I immediately put it away, I dont do laborious tasks if I know I dont have the time to complete them because it will turn a simple 1-2 hr tasks into a 3-4 hr task later down the line. By adopting these habits my weekly cleaning routine is solely cleaning, I can put aside 1-2 hr for my whole place just to clean, I'm not decluttering or organizing things because they are already in place I'm just doing weekly cleaning of things that accumulate dust/dirt.

And this is exactly where I dream of being. I would love to be able to make those things a habit and I do truly try. ❤️ I have a cleaning schedule that I am attempting to stick to this year and adopting one habit at a time. This month my goal is to try to keep my hallway and dining room clean because those are the two things you see first when you walk into our home. Overall though, one of our biggest issue is we just have too much stuff. I do not have a place for everything to go which is why I am working on decluttering as I go. We definitely have adopted a more simple living mindset and are working to make our home match our mindset. ❤️

@@coffeecarbsclutter Thats a great goal and I think if you stick to the schedule you set up you'll get it done! For decluttering there are tons of great online resources like the 4 box method or 12-12-12 challenge where you basically try to find things around the house you can trash or donate and then work something you plan on keeping into that space. Excited to see how you're able to transform your space in the future!

I am always happy to watch someone who has a house like yours organize because it is real life. I grew up in a house that looked like this one a good day. And there weren't many good days. I thought it was SO strange going to other people's houses and seeing how "empty" theirs looked like. It didn't even register as being clean. Just empty. I started working on teaching myself to keep my own home cleaner 7 years ago, but I'm just now ready to start doing the decluttering part. It was so hard to get rid of even 1 thing until recently. But I wanted our child to grow up able to recognize what a clean and organized home looks like and how to do it, so he's not figuring it out for the first time in his late 30s. 😅

Like right now if you were to see my house, you would never know that it was a disaster a couple of weeks ago (other than my garage and homeless room, those are BAD!). Suddenly it all made sense and I could stop gaslighting myself about faux hoarder-denial!!!! 🤪😵‍💫 I challenge anyone who's feeling judgy to educate themselves on ADHD and especially Executive Functioning Skills. Thank you for being real. Thank you for not putting on foot long false eyelashes before setting up the camera. I like the initial sort idea to build momentum. Get a trash can and an empty box. Pick a starting area. Discard what you don't want. Put what does not belong to the area into the box. Make neater piles of what belongs. Next step is empty the box. Now is when you run around to the varous rooms in the house. Place whatever belongs in a particular room on a bed or counter then move to the next room until the box is empty. Return to the starting area until only what belongs there remains. Don't go into the closets or the cabinets. You're just going after the stray sheep at this stage. Give yourself a hug, then move to the next area until the entire home is sorted. Now your house is tidy, but not clean and there are skeletons in the closet. PIck whether you want to start scrubbing surfaces or digging out the skeletons hiding behind doors and inside drawers. Do not agonize over every item because that will bog you down. If you can't decide, keep the thing and dither about it later. With more practice, those decisions become easier. It is nice to donate things, but if you have not done it yet you probably won't. Be honest with yourself. Get rid of the unwanted. That is your priority.

Ever since my mom passed away 2 years ago, I have been hugely overwhelmed by the simplest of tasks. My apartment has become super cluttered. I try to do in-depth/deep clean days, but I lose energy and motivation about a quarter of the way thru - add to that limited mobility (lipedema in my legs and bad knees), and it ends up taking almost a week to clean one room. The "low-hanging fruit" approach is a wise one and I love the idea of setting a timer as well. I like the idea of putting something in the room it belongs in but not necessarily the final place it belongs. I do the exact same thing! Thank you so much for your video. The third has attic stairs taking up a third of the space. No coat closet - no linen closet - no cabinets. Laundry is in the basement, and the one bathroom is on the second floor. Feb will be my bedroom and the pantry. March will be the utility room and the hallway. Hoping in april i can remodel the kitchen and paint. pacing myself makes achieving these goals more doable. u have a lovely home, hope once its cleaned it stays that way. no one wants to do this on a regular basis. maybe on friday or saturdays the kids need to put their toys away and clean their rooms. 1 day a week so the weekend feels lighter and more enjoyable.

You got this! Definitely do not give up! Even if it’s for 10 minutes, just spend a few minutes when you can. One thing I have learned is to break things into chunks. So like if my kitchen is out of control, I will say to myself, “We are going to clean the counter by the fridge.” Then once that is done I may assign another chunk or I may walk away for a minute. Next might be just unloading the dishwasher. Oddly enough I learned this from my Kiddos Occupational Therapist. She explained that for brains like his and mine, saying I am going to clean the kitchen doesn’t work because that involves 57 steps. However I we break down those 57 steps into individual tasks, it makes it much more manageable. ❤️ And I am by no means an expert, clearly. Just relaying what works for me when I get so very overwhelmed, which is frequently.

Don't wait until you "know what you need", because needs constantly change and you'll never get started. It's impossible to get it perfect so try not to set an unrealistic goal. My 2022 goal was to give everything a home and I got 90% of the way there, which is enough. I know there are things I probably don't need anymore but my focus was on getting the space clear and the process naturally changed me and how I tidy my house.

So glad I just discovered your channel! This video was really motivating as I've been really intimidated to tackle my storage closet which is out of control at the moment ( and I have to clean it out so I can put my christmas stuff away... it's almost february!). Looking forward to following along with the upcoming episodes!

I loved your video and you have a beautiful home. I just see a lot of homeless clutter or items that just aren’t in the places where they would normally go. My advice would be to just buy some hooks for the hall instead of tape on the wall unless you plan to build your hall tree within days it seems to be odd to see tape on the wall for any length of time, or how about rolling the laundry sorting baskets into the actual laundry room. I was so happy when I saw you move the mop head and car detail supply bin away. I really thought you were planning to leave it in the hallway. The two things that really helped me reclaim my spaces were decluttering but also making homes for everything. As well as saying to myself does such and such belong in a dining room or hall way. No this doesn’t help accomplish the feel I’m going for in this space, ok take it there now where it should go. For some time that “temporary there” was my bedroom which then killed the bedroom vibe etc so I really had to come up with functional but pretty storage quickly as I didn’t want my front entry or bedroom or basement to be a constant dumping ground until I could find a better home. This also showed me these items don’t have homes they probably won’t have homes and I need to let them go. Also another thing that took me a while when I didn’t have my storage solutions or dedicated homes in place that was impossible was the idea of “complete tasks”. I was for a long time the half way done girl. The easy thing to do is start things then stop. Like do wash it don’t put it away or do dishes but don’t empty the dishwasher, etc. but the truth is it really isn’t the easier way. It causes more stress oner all doing things this way so I recommend don’t set things down. Take the extra few seconds to put its way then and there or else I find clutter attracts more clutter. Complete the cycles even with adhd even if you have to set yourself a timer. Things don’t usually take as long as you think so if you know it’s only going to take two more min instead of the twenty you think it will this may help you push through. It seems like you have no storage solutions at all. I’d suggest shelfs or a rack for your laundry supplies to be kept in the laundry room where you use them. You mentioned some sort of utility closet which I am not sure about but I know I’d find it very difficult to do laundry if my laundry soap wasn’t in the actual laundry room. And finally I have several family members in the house with adhd and they all do extremely better in simplified non cluttered spaces. I think you will find you feel that way as well. I am sure you will get there. Keep on decluttering. Don’t give anything a chance to sit too long. Try to reset your kitchen every night before bed. That helps start the day off with less stress too. Try not to allow anything to be set down on the floor. I hope my suggestions help. I can’t wait to see more videos like this.

Thank you for being so kind. We do have a lot of homeless clutter that will be finding its way to a new home and out of mine. Normally I have shelving in my laundry room but when the washer broke, all of that got cleared out. Just this week I finished staining two new shelves that will go in there for my laundry stuff. Our utility closet is mostly used for brooms, vacuum, mops, etc. but we are going to add shelving in there as well to move the car detailing stuff and tools. I know eventually everything will come together. With my son and I both being Neurodivergent, my husband does what he can to help keep us on our routine but both my kiddo and I are also actively working to get things done. Unfortunately getting sick happened at the worst possible time with Christmas and the washer breaking down and I just simply got overwhelmed. The good news is, I am much better now and in a better headspace so progress is being made. Your suggestions are always welcome and I LOVE feedback. Anything I can do to help my home flow better is always appreciated. 🤗

OMG! I just stumbled across this video and was horrified at the amount of clutter. There is no way I could live like that for more than a day. It would drive me insane. I know this sounds like criticism, but it isn't. It motivated me to get off my butt and go vacuum, sweep and mop my floors, which I have needed to do for over a week. It just goes to show that if you procrastinate for too long about cleaning, it builds up really fast and can happen to anyone. It looks like you have a beautiful home underneath all the clutter and I'm so proud of you for tackling the mess and creating a cozy, welcoming space again for you and your family. Good job!

For the mine craft toy chest, what you could do is get a regular toy chest and add wallpaper on it, the wallpaper can be purchased from amazon or walmart, just an idea! awesome video and new sub!

It is honestly great!! even the wall stickers work really well, you can use a little modge pod or a clear type glue so it wont come off easily, and if you get a wooden toy chest yo can paint it and just have fun! and it goes both ways, when you put out nice videos you attract nice people! I hope it helps you out, really appreciate you writing back! :)

You are so welcome! I want to clarify that I have nothing against other Channels, I love watching them too. I try to think of them as what I aspire to be when I grow up at some point. 😂 But I really wish there were more channels that showed what a lot of us struggle with, clutter, storage challenges, neurodivergence, etc.. Stay tuned for the episode in a few weeks that shows me tackling my office/Guestroom/Homeless Junk room. It is not quite finished at this point but man it is already inspiring me to do more! Thank you so much for watching and your kind words. I really appreciate you being here. ❤🌻

I feel for you with the laundry piling when a washer quits working. We’ve been through months of a washer going down, getting fixed, going down, fixed… company finally gave us a new one to replace the one that was only 2 1/2 years old and under warranty. It got so bad with the waiting to get fixed, we ended up getting a used older one just to keep us going. For about 2 weeks both were down and the laundry pile was incredibly large.

You are right natural light makes for a more joyous environment. I live in the woods so we do not have curtains or blinds in the main part of the house. Just a thought…. Do you remember your mother ever having meltdown days? I am 65 and I don’t remember that event ever? Surely they had them too. However my mother always had a miraculous way of keeping the house . Always tidy and clean. Meals always on time and so on.. I did not get her gene of keeping things clean, clear and tidy.

I never forget the day when one of my teenage sons decided to do his own washing, it was while I was up a ladder painting the ceiling, he was about sixteen at the time . The relief that they were becoming self sufficient at least as far as washing clothes was concerned.

@@coffeecarbsclutter I made the big mistake of emptying a storage unit into my small duplex home… NOW I HAVE NOWHERE TO PUT IT I’m at a loss as what to do so I just went and got a small storage unit to put the things I really want to keep and am donating and trashing the rest. It’s such a daunting task working 6 days a week and 3D shift at that. Some days I am totally numbed and cannot even motivate. Tips? You’re very motivating tho. Thank you for letting us into your world!

I move things to the room they belong in and put them away when I get to that room unless it's just one thing that will take 2 seconds. The biggest thing that has helped me is decluttering the house without mercy and continuing that process periodically throughout the year. I always think I'll reach the point where I don't need to get rid of anything, but I haven't yet. The amount has gone down drastically though and that is encouraging. I used to be able to fill up 5 or 6 boxes for Goodwill - now it's one and it will take awhile for it to be full enough to drop off. You can do it!!!
