The Norwegian Yachting magazine SEILmagasinet has ben in France to test Beneteau Oceanis 40.1 against Bavaria C42. The boats has a lot in common, but also som strong and weak points. The one to choose is a matter of use and taste.
If it was that easy, all the boats would have been the same. Choosing a boat is a balanse between different values. Bavaria C42 is a better boat to sail, the Oceanis looks better. I would go for the Bavaria.
Great video ! 1 thing to mention though is the speed comparison, a folding prop makes all the difference and the Beneteau is at a great disadvantage. I learned this the hard way when I started club racing with a big fixed 3 blade...... After installing a new folding propeller it was like a totally different boat. Bavaria seems to have come a long way over the years and the build quality seems to have improved a great deal.
Only let down by the interiors compared to 20 plus years ago, but interiors can be remodeled and upgraded over time. As Midshipman Channel asked regarding the C46? Charter Model- Where is all the extra weight hiding ? due to how heavy they are, it was clearly hiding in the strength of the Hull Lay-up. These are Very Strong Boats. 👍
Good assessments imho, though I'd like to hear how they compare for Hull slamming tbh, is the C42 as good in this regard, as the Bavaria C45 which seems to perform much better than expected in Confused Seas - nice below waterline Hull design with the C45 ? tbh, I'm a bit torn between the two, but likely to go with the C45 with 80hp Yanmar option, to get the ZF Saildrive leg, as I don't like the Yanmar leg on Lower horsepower Yanmars, love the Yanmar Diesels though after having several. Modern maas produktion Yacht design is the standart Coastboat design thaths been used since hundreds of years. Ist still a coast design an nothing vor the Ferell cell or the inertropic zone
@@fluffi8161 Unfortunately, it turned out that I cannot get the shallow enough Draft that I need from a Bavaria Built Sailboat, which really Sucks as other than that, the layout of the C45 below De k is almost perfect for what I need, and would require very little in the way of expensive Customisations. If I was going to stick with the Mediterranean alone, I'd have grabbed one, but the Draft is too deep for many places such as the Nahamas, the ICW, and most of the Caribbean along with so many other places I intend to go. @@fluffi8161 Not with a shallow enough Draft sadly. Other than that I really like the overbuilt quality of Bavaria Sailboats which is confirmed by how well they stand up to being Chartered. Though the interior furniture is a bit too IKEA, Outfits like Setag Yachts can customizer that up to eye watering budgets. and boat transformation can be quite reasonable with a full checkover, which paired with a very cheap ex Charter, can give you a heck of a nice Boat. For perspective, even a 5ft Draft is too easy to ground in the ahamas, and an get you firmly stuck aground in the ICW, but with extra care, you don't lose out on too many places to go, and playing safe, you don't need to Anchor out at ridiculous distances from shore. Bavaria Shoal Draft is 5ft 8 inches if I remember right, and that rules out Way too many places for my Red line ability to access. With a Long Keel Sailboat, and Beaching Legs, Drying Out is OK, which is why my Next Sailboat has an encapsulated Lead Long Keel and a 5ft Draft fully loaded, plus a Bowthruster for tight space Manouverability, plus a good design and displacement for Offshore Cruising Comfort. Another important factor - it is Termite Proof. I don't want what may be my last Sailboat, to be eaten out from u der me.
