2:45 I don't wanna be that guy, but Godzilla has had almost 40 movies during these 70 years, and yeah, a lot of them were just dudes wrestling each other in rubber suits, but to say that the franchise only got back to its roots with Minus One is totally wrong. In the Showa Era, the timeline with the most silliness, we got Godzilla vs. Hedorah, one of the deepest and most unsettling Goji flicks, which revolves around man-made pollution. Most of the reboots and direct sequels to the original also embrace tradition and share most of its themes. The Heisei Era is probably the most remarkable in this regard, with classics such as Vs. King Ghidorah, and the Millenium Era has GMK. But the most notable example is without doubt 2016's Shin Godzilla, a true modern classic of kaiju cinema with one of the most powerful and meaningful subtexts of the whole series. I don't mean to discredit your arguments or anything, I'm just a nerd who has watched every single Goji movie and I felt the need to clarify that common misconception

I'm a tourist in the Godzilla fandom, and even I got angry when he gave wrong information. Imagine the backlash from actual Godzilla fans! It is also messed up you analyse names so much, but still failed to mention that Concavenator is named after where it's found! Concavenator means "Cuenca hunter" because it was found in the Cuenca province of Spain! NOT BECAUSE OF IT'S WIERD BACK!!!

The marine iguana origin only applies to the Godzilla 1998 movie, most of the time including the original, he’s an ancient dinosaur irradiated into what he becomes.

As much as I love lockstin, maybe just a bit of research will do? The original Godzilla was not an iguana exposed by nuclear radiation, that was the first American Godzilla. You kinda ignored the heisei and millennium era and shin. Which those movies did have a serious tone to it, just put in a different yet creative way.

Not a Godzilla Expert, but Minus One was definitely not THE movie that returned to the franchises roots where every other movie was a "cash grab." I mean just looking in a forum for Godzilla you'll see people talking about at least a dozen fantastic Godzilla movies, the most notable I have seen being Shin Godzilla. If the point was to focus on the "weird" period of Godzilla (given it's the period with the weird sail-jet move that inspired Baxcalibur), I think you could have just said it was a "period" of Godzilla's film-history, and mentioned there are other great Godzilla movies that came out, just that the specific move was a reference to that period (again, not a Godzilla expert). The Godzilla fans aren't happy, and given this happened with another creator only a few months ago, I can see why.

The reason why the Kaiju genre became "kiddy" was because the rise of TVs taking over the film industry in the mid 1960s and early 70s. Kids actively ate up Kaiju like Godzilla, Gamera and etc. It wasn't till the 1980s and 1990s when the first generation of Kaiju adult fans grew. Also you kind of ignored Shin Godzilla (2016) was also a darker tone of Godzilla. Still an entertaining video 👍🏻

Lockstin, the Marine Iguana thing was only the 1998 Tristar movie, and that movie has been disowned by the fandom and by the company that owns the intellectual rights to Godzilla. The actual origin of the 1954 Godzilla is that a Godzillasaurus (fictional theropod species. not the real world sauropod dinosaur named after Godzilla) fossil on the ocean floor was reanimated and mutated by the nuclear testing. This is Godzilla's origin in almost every incarnation. the exceptions being: Tristar Godzilla (also known as G.E.N.O. (Godzilla in name only)) Shin Godzilla (who is more like Destroyah actually) Legendary Godzilla Godzilla Ultima (from the Godzilla Singular Point anime) Godzilla Earth (from the Godzilla Earth movie trilogy)

So a few things I'm sure you've already seen a dozen times -The original Godzilla backstory was that he was a prehistoric dinosaur who had survived to modern day before getting irradiated, so it was always at least a little goofy. The iguana backstory is from the 98' American Godzilla movie everyone hates. -Godzilla has been doing serious stories throughout the majority of its existence, with the monsters he fights often representing other manmade societal ills or natural disasters, things like pollution or meteor strikes. Its just there was a period of time where he was much more goofy and that is equally what the series is as the serious metaphors. -If you're looking at modern Godzilla then his return to more serious metaphorical storytelling is actually from Shin Godzilla, not Minus One. It's just Shin wasn't as well liked in the US, possibly because its a very chaotically paced movie criticizing Japan specific issues and traumas, possibly because they depict the American military as useless and more than willing to repeat Hiroshima. Also Frigibax resembles Chibi Minilla from the Chibi Godzilla series to me. Might be a coincidence but the head shapes are remarkably similar

There's some things wrong in the video: -Concavenator's name doesn't reffer the anatomy of the dinosaur. It's a callback to the province of Cuenca, Spain, where the Las Hoyas formation is located (It was discovered there). -The Excalibur theme isn't the legendary blade, but an old axe tip found in Spain also, that the founders named "Excalibur". Thats the "Blade" on the back. -The komodo aspect can be cut out since the german name os Baxcalibur is "Espinodon", and that is as simple as Spinosaurus and "-Don" (teeth) like Iguanodon, Pteranodon, etc. Every lamguage gives the name that they want but It shouldn't count as aspects of the OG name imo.

Frigibax being so “ugly” is probably a reference to Minya/Minilla, Godzilla’s son from the Showa era. He’s known for being incredibly ugly, but I personally see some charm in the strange design. Articbax reminds me a lot of 1998’s Zilla except smaller, considering how he stands in a more “dinosaur-like” manner compared to the Godzilla we know and love. And besides the ice type of this line countering the heat of Godzilla’s atomic breath, I think it could also be seen as a sneaky reference to 1962’s King Kong vs Godzilla, where Godzilla awakens from an iceberg to terrorize Japan and fight the big ape ^_^

My grandfather was a POW in a Japanese Prison Camp during World War 2, and he told stories about being sent into the cities after the bombs dropped to look for survivors. No one really knew what the bombs were capable of after all. Nothing left of some people but outlines on walls. Other walls that look solid but as soon as they were touched they crumbled to dust. There are only two times my grandfather was ever so terrified by what he saw as a marine. The aftermath of the bombs was one of them.

I think Baxcalibur’s line’s design is specifically based on the Heisei series Godzilla Junior. As the designs look similar to the different forms that Godzilla Jr took in the latter Heisei movies before looking almost exactly like the adult Godzilla by the finale Godzilla vs Destoroyah. His fire absorbing ability could be in reference to how in the finale of Destoroyah, Japan thinks they will be wiped out by the radiation of burning Godzilla when he melts down, only for Jr. to absorb the radiation to become the new Godzilla.

Godzilla returned to his roots with the Heisei era's Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs Biollante Then lost it again only to return again in the millennium era's Godzilla 2000, then the 2014 American one was rather serious before the American movies started emulating the showa era. Then in 2016 Shin Godzilla happened, which is the current era alongside Minus One

I implore you to do more research on the tokusatsu genre next time you want to cover it cause yikes. Near my home in Spain in a place called Sima de Huesos, Atapuerca (basically hole of bones) a biface, an ancient tool that looks like baxcalibur's backplate, was discovered. It is one of the most important archeological discoveries around here, since It was painted with colors and may be one of the first remains of rituals around here. And, what did they name the biface? Exalibur

Okay so three minutes in, and theres some mistakes. Namely in Godzilla's origins. He was not a Marine Iguana. That was the 1998 Godzilla's origins. The original 1954 Gojira was an ancient undiscovered species of marine reptile named by Doctor Yamoné the old scientist of the film; Godzillasaurus. Second mistake; Godzilla as a franchise did indeed grow sillier where it went into hiatus after the more mature and darker 1975 Film; Terror of Mechagodzilla. Until 1984 where the film "The Return of Godzilla" hard rebooted the franchise being a sequel to the Original 1954 film and ignoring all the films between. A dark, political film regarding what it felt like to be Japan during the Cold War where at any moment these behemoths known as the United States, and the Soviet Union could nuke each other at any minute. This would lead into to much more serious second era of Godzilla films which while did lean into the more Sci-Fi aspects of Godzilla, still maintained their overrall darker tone. The heisei era would end in 1995 and put the franchise again on hiatus. But after the complete Diaster that was the 1998 movie, Toho jump started making Godzilla movies in retaliation starting the Millennium series whose tone varies depending on the film. The Millennium series would then end in 2004 after the film Godzilla Final Wars where the franchise would more or less be done. It wouldn't be until the release of 2014's Godzilla and 2016's Shin Gojira that the Godzilla franchise as a whole would again return to the big screen. As well as return to the to the metaphorical tone of the original 1954 film, which is most apparent in Shin Gojira.
