I found the video of great use and somewhat mirrored my experience of the learning curve. There are many people with an engineering background out there who would find this useful in highlighting the many standard industry practises of installing oversizing boilers matched to inefficient control systems. Opentherm and weather compensation is the way to go. Thank you for taking the trouble to share your experience and I hope that you do a follow up once you have installed the Nest and had some winter experience with it.
I now have the OpenTherm Monitor gateway hardware which will be readable over wifi by a WeMos D1 board connected to it. I will be hooking it up in series into the opentherm boiler/nest wiring in the next month or so to have the real time info. I plan on doing a video of the gateway monitoring hardware installation and real time screenshots of the recorded data.
For refrence the EPH CP4I is the only smart stat that runs Baxi opentherm. The newer baxi model ''combi2'' does now have genuine opentherm on the newer pcb for all controls in OT
Mm. I'm an installer and really surprised you had 4 quotes but by sounds your were not given the options. But you can use your dumb stat but still fit weather compensation kit and set your flow temp curve. Also the boiler will modulate with your dumb stat but you are right in saying the ot system is best system.
I think it would be a good a idea to edit this video and split it into 2 videos. The first 75% is a talk on your installation of your system and the final 25% is a technical discussion of why Hive doesn't really work with smart boilers and what does. The two discussions have different audiences.
Hi, I'm looking at a baxi 836, have you found a good smart thermostat that actually works with OT. I have been looking for a couple of hours... Might be limited to the baxi usense or nest, I wanted the wiser but can't find anyone confirmation that it works.
Hi Karl, In the attached link you will a list of OT controls, its a very good website with lots of info the OT technology, boilers and controllers. myboiler.com/opentherm/opentherm-boilers-and-controls/#whatisopentherm
@@TheCADengineer Hi Brain, thanks for the link, I will have a read. Can you please tell me, is possible to control the DHW temp using the nest? Thanks.KArl.
@@sipepguruhi I have just had the 836 combi 2 fitted with Google nest works a dream fully controllable from your phone and can be installed on the old wiring on the dumb 2:25 thermostat u sense... Baxi recommend fresh smaller wiring
