THANK YOU!!! I just got to this section of the game, and I immediately recognized the Phil Collins drumming pattern. I couldn't stop laughing afterward, because it was so unexpected. You know what is even weirder? The flying monsters in the sections where this music plays (the ones that throw things) start laughing. Not just any laugh, either. I think that's another Phil Collins reference to the "HAHAHA" sections of the Genesis song "Mama."
David Wise clearly took a lot of inspiration from Phil Collins in many of DKC's tracks, and this track is the most obvious with it borrowing heavy elements from "In The Air Tonight". But you can tell throughout many of the tracks that David Wise really understands Phil Collins' ear for percussion and melody.
that beginning percussion of this song is definitely a dead give away. I was just listening to In the Air Tonight recently and thinking to myself "David must have been inspired by this song for Bayou Boogie"

SNES version or GBA version? You're lucky if you only played the SNES version. The GBA version has an annoying ghostly wail instead. But at least they gave him a cool laugh when he dies!
My friend and I commented on this a long time ago, we both agree the DK games really have impressive music, far better than the Mario games on SNES. I still have all my SNES games and the system since New Year's 1994! Still works like it did from day one.
bro Mario's compositions cannot even come close to DKC's compositions. David Wise was a genius. He understood how to use sounds in ways we could never even imagine. And I'm not talking about how people use sampled sounds these days, they literally just drag and drop, David had only 64kb to work with. I'd like to see some modern day "composers" write a song using only 64kb. Literally takes no skill. Anyway, before I start ranting, these tracks are so magical. David Wise truly is a blessing to our world, the Bob Ross of the SNES soundchip.
Eric Jordan I have noticed that the Super Mario soundtracks beyond the SNES have been very noticeable about the evolution of their music, as evidenced by the Super Mario Galaxy Games, come on, that the merit of Donkey Kong Country earned is not taken away from anyone. I admire many composers, besides David Wise.
