We DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE MAN we know. Beating us over the head with the same comments isn't going to help getting us to see the movie that we both see we was going to watch. If anything its making us not want to go.
Well with 3.85k subscribers, ya'll know how to put the work in. Commendable! But yeah I see some, a small select few that are simply reacting to your reaction in the way you reacted to the trailer. You literally LAUGHED at the producers for the IDEA that they wanted to show Elvis liking black people. I mean... That kind of chatter is going to be taken a certain way by your subscribers whether they are Elvis fans or not. You cheapened the experience which looks bad on the content/product you put up. I actually LIKED your personalities but that line right there just ended your credibility "strange wang". With all this said, I'm looking forward to you both going to the movie for SURE. Why not? Come back and give us your concrete reasons for what you liked (if anything) and what you didnt. The Elvis fan base is very protective of Elvis but there are some GREAT people Ive met along the way. Super cool group of people.
Cmon - it’s ELVIS!!!! his fans are passionate. Me being one! Are you passionate about something?? Would you defend it?? Of course you would. Don’t let the passion put you off…. Maybe go and see it - maybe you will then understand why a whole bunch of people would write such passionate responses??? Or maybe not - but hey - it’s worth a watch! We love him and just can’t help it…. We know the truth but so many don’t…. That’s why the movie is IMPORTANT!
Elvis grew up within the black community, during a time of segregation he had black friends, attended black church and clubs. Yes, he was greatly influenced by the blues and black culture, dress and music. He also blew the racial doors open for black music and exposed it to the whites in mass. He faced attempts of the establishment to cancel him, having his records removed from machines, smashed and even banned, threats of violence to him and threats of arrest, yet he stayed the course. I just want to point out that pre-Covid his home in Memphis known as Graceland was still visited by about 600 thousand people a year from all over the world over 40 years after his death.
As much as I disagree with the dumb responses in this comment section expecting these two guys who are just trying to react to a trailer for a movie that will be largely fabricated, I agree, that guys is absolutely clueless haha
I have seen a lot of the new Elvis trailer reactions and 99% of them, to be honest are clueless and have know idea about the man. Elvis was, is and always will be the greatest singer that ever walked this planet.
My initial humble opinion (and I realize it's just my opinion folks)?: 2023 will be the FIRST TIME I sit down to watch the OSCARS in 30 years. Just to root for Baz and the team he has put together to KICK ASS and win some awards for all their expertise and hard work!!! This is looking like it is going to be a MASTERPIECE work of art.
I will watch the Oscar's also, and I haven't watched them for years. They have become too political, and I don't want to hear that negative stuff, but I believe this movie will win an Oscar!
There are still millions of fans who love and there are new ones every day. Get on you tube and you will see how many people still love him. He was not forgotten by his millions of fans.
Amazing to see how Austin Butler's voice sounds exactly like Elvis' voice... he had a vocal coach during 1 year to get to talk and sing like Elvis, and we can have a glimpse through this trailer how amazing the result is.... I can't wait to see the full result in June. This could be an Oscar-winning role for Austin... Given his vocal and physical performance and transformation here, he would certainly deserve at least a nomination
They guy on the right is not so bad. But the guy in the glasses is completely clueless. Please do some minimal research before talking about historical subjects, please?
"A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man's music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied from Elvis." --- Jackie Wilson
THE GUY they picked for Elvis? I personally think it is a brilliant selection. NOBODY looks like Elvis. Any hiring of an Elvis impersonator would have stigmatized the entire movie as a meme. Have enough of those floating around. But THIS HIRE... AUSTIN BUTLER ... is making a NEW GENERATION of Elvis fans. ... by the MILLIONS already. This was a VERY GOOD IDEA and the Elvis fanbase benefits greatly and Elvis' legacy marches on. WINNER.
Elvis Presley did not steal black music. Legends such as Al Green Bb King James Brown Jackie Wilson Sammy Davis Jr Little Richard roamed the Earth at the same time Elvis did and they all knew Elvis well. They loved Elvis. Elvis grew up merging black and white music to help form Rock and Roll after helping move a youth movement and civil rights movement to the forefront so both could succeed. It’s safe to say the guy in shades knows nothing about Elvis. But maybe you can give his story a chance. Elvis is the best selling music artist in recorded history, all genres combined. I think he did alright.
I enjoyed your chat - you are the folks this movie is aimed at - I hope you go to see it! I hope you can learn what a special human being he was. He isn’t forgotten.
ELVIS WAS completely filmed in Australia! Tom Hanks looks and sound unrecognizable! Tom Hanks said he would have to sit getting make up on for hours everyday and had is hair shaved bald! The movie preview looks awesome!
There is no such thing as cultural appropriation. No individual group can claim a culture as only their own. All music, stories, etc. contain ideas that have existed since the beginning of time. Who cares about the wrapping-paper? The idea/message inside is all that matters.
A lot of people care about the wrapping paper. Especially when it comes at someone else's expense. And sure, culture is a construct, but everything that is constructed is "real." You're never going to live in a world where that doesn't matter to people, rather it should or not.
Sir in the sunglasses... you are a bit out of touch with the popularity of Mr. Presley. Might ask the 500,000 ppl who visit Graceland each year :D or the fact that they are literally making a movie about him 45 years after his death. The anniversary of his death brings 10's of thousands of visitors to his home... on the 40th anniversary they expected approximately 50,000 people to come. Who else do you know that pulls that power. They come from around the world... not just locals or nationals. If you go sit at the steps of Graceland you will see fans from 8-80 and if you have never been to the Graceland complex, it should be on your bucket list. I've lived in Memphis all my life and what happens at Graceland is nothing short of a miracle. He was heavily influenced by black music. They welcomed that little white boy into their church where he sang to them and with them. He was gifted not only with an amazing voice and sultry good looks but with a kind and compassionate heart. No one was as generous as he was... he gave away more than he kept as evidenced by his worth at his death. It is a fact that women wanted him and men wanted to be him and he was revered by many if not most entertainers of his time.. you can look up quotes. I hope you dig a bit more deeply and learn who the real man was. He was troubled and imperfect and an icon of the ages.
Out of touch? This man hasn't released a song since ive been alive. Now if I didn't know who Drake was out of touch would be a fair statement. We both are going to see the film and hope its great. BASED ON THE TRAILER I DIDNT FEEL THAT WAY. based on the trailer
@@CineTopical Well lets be honest you havent really been alive very long :) Out of touch in the sense you said his fandom was waning and I believe you said his popularity was down and the director was trying to drum up fans lol .. I responded. My point was it is not. You keep mentioning Drake.. is he the only hip hop artist you know :D ?
You guys have no idea, you had to be there. When he came on the scene we never saw anything Like him before. We were told by our parents, school not to watch him. But we did anyway. We adored him. He stole from no one, he was his own man. He was very religious and grew up very poor. He will always be the king
He didn’t steal. If you watch “Elvis and the Black Community” you will see artists such as James Brown, Little Richard, B.B. King, Fats Domino, Sammy Davis Jr, and many others praise and show so much love for Elvis because he’s the reason black music was even put on the air. Someone had to break the ice. Also it was a white owned magazine that pedaled lies that Elvis was a thief and racist to try to get the black community to turn on him. Keep in mind Chuck Berry, Little Richard, James Brown, B.B. King and many others all had their first hits in 1955. Elvis’ first hit was in 1954. He started it all with inspiration from blue grass, gospel, R&B with his illegal dance moves lol and created Rock as we know it
Right, but the one guy even specifically said he felt like it was more societies response that got Elvis all the hate. And obviously it was largely because of the times, but it's still sad that it took a white guy to break that mold, instead of people truly crediting the artists that originated it.
@@alanb6703 ELVIS credited EVERYONE who influenced him. That's why we KNOW so much about who influenced him. Just not right to pigeonhole Elvis into your jaded viewpoints without giving yourself the opportunity to learn the truth before attacking someone who is dead and cannot defend their legacy. " Little Richard, Joe Turner, Ike Turner, Ruth Brown, Big Mama Thornton, Lloyd Price, Junior Parker, Fats Domino and Chuck Berry and so many more Elvis appreciated. Elvis loved to show love to those who influenced him.
I was 15 when Elvis died. You guys have NO clue of the cultural impact he made and still does. The country nearly shut down. Reports of his death were all that was on TV. You need to go to Graceland and tour the trophy room. They call that the conversion chamber. That's where all the young hotshot groups with one or two gold records go when they visit Graceland. Their jaw drops when they see the many awards and gold records. As far as the black community, Elvis grew up in a black neighborhood in Tupelo. Baz interviewed one of his black childhood friends. As far as Elvis stealing black music, every song a black artist wrote that Elvis recorded was paid. They made thousands of dollars because Elvis recorded their songs! I have never heard of any of them returning or refusing the royalty checks because they were offended Elvis sang their music!
Yea, how dare you guys not choose what decade you were born in. How dare you unwillingly be born in a time where Elvis isn't relevant and where the music world is over saturated to the point that not only will no artist ever sell that many records because innovation has grown and evolved to a point, but also where it doesn't matter at all and no one cares! How dare you, sirs, not respect a mans musical career that's popularity is fading out more and more with each decade because society, as it always has, will continue to move on and progress leaving Elvis in the dust. These people out here in the comment section acting like this guy is Bach, Vivaldi, or Beethoven.
@@CineTopical nah... he doesn't need more fans nor would Baz give a hoot about drumming up business for Elvis... he wanted to make a story that was complete and honest :)
@@alanb6703 The fact that today's society has no attention span does not mean that Elvis's contribution to music changed the world. I think he is as relevant as the 3 fellows you mentioned.
The last Elvis movie was about Elvis's twin brother. It was a what if history movie. The movie is about his brother surviving and becoming a singer too.
I am got going to give you a hard time because alot of crap was written about him after his death which has became Truth . It isn't. Watch Elvis and the black community. Real Black Great artists loved him and he helped them out all the time
Hopefully this movie can give you more information on who Elvis really was and how he became that person. I feel like you guys have alot of misinformation
my whole family will be going to this movie; last movie we did was The Northman (first flick I've gone to see in 3-yrs) ~ reason is somewhat nostalgia remembering my mum and auntie who adored Elvis - I remember being 7-yrs with the Hawaii telecast back satellited (world's first ever global telecast) & my mother being mesmerized & me mad because she wouldn't cover my schoolbooks until it was over. I live in the US now, and love anything Americana, and Elvis encapsulates exactly that; my 3 sons in their late 20's to early 30's love music so that's their want to see. What's interesting is Elvis is still revered & huge back in OZ, and celebrated every year at one of the biggest festivals in Australia, the Parkes Elvis Festival held in Jan each year; also, the Bendigo Museum in the Australian State of Victoria has an Elvis exhibit until July 17th that received national news coverage & apparently doing great guns in media & attendance.
23 million? Really? I only see almost 7 million on one WB trailer vid and the other foreign country ones have hundreds of thousands. I hope it gets that many views
I don’t think Elvis came out and made music popular for the white people because he was trying to take a black sound and make it white if that’s what you’re saying. I believe the Elvis took his own sound and his own soul and made it his own and then white people saw it and came to love more soulful music or.
Research?!?!?! This is RU-vid I'm not doing homework for a video. I listen to Drake and Kanye West the biggest artists out so, I don't think we're outta touch.
I give this a 10. It will break all records for attendance. Baz Luhrman is going to make a record amount of money on this movie. I am an Elvis fan. He was the greatest performer ever! I cried when he died! Austin has his movements down, and he sounds like Elvis. I can't wait to see it.
no way It will break all records for attendance. The reason why the superhero movies with the same plot makes so much money is because of the fast pace action. Its easy to watch for anyone. This movie in still a covid 19 world isn't going to boom all over the world like a big budget CGI movie does. I don't like it because those movies aren't the reason I love films but its just the facts of life. no matter how good a film this could be, it won't perform worldwide.
Well, I absolutely love the trailer. And I think Austin Butler is incredible (so far). I always cringe at Elvis impersonators but Austin is different, playing it his own way, instead of trying to copy Elvis exactly. I do have a concern about the way Tom Hanks is playing Col. Parker but I'll wait to see the movie to make a better opinion. Elvis was "the greatest show on earth" and this trailer really gets me excited⚡almost like we get to see one more performance by the king himself.
Hi Scott, I agree I love this trailer as well. its going to be brilliant. my opinion on Hanks from what I see right now...I think TH might be down playing this role to let Austins performance shine through. I could be wrong but It just seems likes there's no reason for Hanks to prove anything, just simply play the part and let this new kid possibly play the role of his life time. (I know this...that Austin guy has balls of steel) and he has 1 shot to get this right. im pulling for him. I dont know much of anything about Austin but from what i see from the trailer he did his homework. anyway just my thoughts on the tom hanks thing. like you said who knows...to early to tell
Please don't go to the movie because your mind is already made up, but know this Elvis changed music and culture. Maybe it would be educational for you to research the man's music & history it might give you a better insight to how important he was to the development of modern music.
NO ONE SAID IT WAS BAD OR WILL IT BE BAD. Dude's music just isn't the same for 25 year olds in the year 2022. this is a movie channel and not a elvis channel. We are both going and both want every movie to be good because we love cinema...
@@CineTopical You stated you didn't know much about Elvis and seemed irritated that fans wanted to share their appreciation for the man, and because of this you said "if anything it's making us not want to go". Your opinion is that most 25 year olds don't know his music music, fair enough and you review cinemas not music this is also fair, all I suggest is that you educate yourself about the man, if you did you might enjoy the movie much more.
Alas in our current age amongst a younger age range, Elvis mistruths and nonsense has become passed on, ingrained and believed by some so, not going to castigate these reactors anymore as seems already had lot of that. But would say is I can understand why cause of the magnitude Elvis's impact on this world had and his legacy that does - still continue to emotionally affect people. So would just say guys genuinely hope you 2 do go to see the movie and just least give it a chance before automatically writing it off as from the power of the trailer alone plus have heard the director of this literally consumed all of himself into this in the process doing over a years worth of research aided by access to the Presley archives/ also that Hanks who plays Colonel Parker met with Priscilla and during this meeting at dinner she even told Hanks some stories of how Parker was towards them, in a good way describing him in 1 way as a genius but also using the term scoundrel. So perhaps of Hanks Parker portrayal we will see/ learn some things never been depicted before as - it is common belief held by many Parker as his promoter pushed Elvis too much and in part ultimately led to his physical decline and premature death. But just perhaps, of Parker there was some even tiny bit of good, who knows. But that is beauty of this new movie it undoubtedly has great cast, it has lead who director has chosen cause this guy can no doubt portray the many - multi facets of Elvis the person and it has potential to be Elvis biopic will do him and his life story justice. So guys please just don't take as given whole Elvis baseless mistruths, do your own proper learning of him and you will realise he didn't steal black peoples music or anyone's music no matter what colour it was - Elvis didn't see it as colour that mattered he just sang from the heart of conviction whether it be slow ballad song, rich gospel type/ country, your classical rock and roll. Elvis didn't see colour, race he saw people as people no matter what and demanded his backing singers who were black, got fair and equal treatment otherwise he refused to perform at the venue. This at a time and era when sadly by far not all had this attitude. Black performers were actually glad of his success as for them, he advanced their own potential to finally get crossover appeal with white audiences in so many ways. Elvis was loved by many so please don't believe the nonsense.
It was a fantastic movie. He grew up in a black community. He was very poor. You guys need to watch the 50's Elvis clips out there. Watch Elvis and the Black Community. Quit just taking info you've heard and do research
Your ignorance is Blatant. Elvis's music career consists of 23 years and over 600 recorded songs, the most genre diverse catalog of music than any artist in history; with sells of over a billion units. (Real sells, not download clicks like modern counts). Only a musically ignorant person would ramble off with the nonsense that you spouted. Elvis's Top 40 resume is impressive. He had over 100 Top 40 songs; including 18 number one songs and almost 40 Top 10 songs. you should stick to man fashion reviews.
Who cares. It's just a reaction to a movie trailer. And Elvis' popularity and interest in his music will die out a little more and more each generation until absolutely no one cares about any of that anymore. Why on earth would you suggest someone do research for a reaction to a movie trailer? His record sales have nothing to do with rather or not the movie will be good, and they're obviously just curious if the controversy surrounding Elvis (which exists rather you, me, or anyone else thinks it should or not) will impact the cultural reception of the film.
All these old Elvis stans in the comments (who probably don't even know what that means) have me geeking. You guys didnt even say anything negative about the man himself, who by the way, has plenty of negative things that could be said. Just because black artists were fine with Elvis using their songs and were compensated, doesn't mean it isn't appropriation, especially since most of the black artists, being uneducated and under represented (legally) were paid pennies on the dollar for the rights to songs and were absolutely taken advantage of. It blows my mind that just because you didn't overly praise Elvis people react so negatively. Why the hell would you need to do research, you're reacting to a trailer for a movie, not writing the guys biography. I think your reaction was genuine, and I agree, as far as the film goes its definitely a "wait and see" on how good it will be. Good job, keep plugging along through all these BS comments!
thanks and we are both going to go see the film. Our generation biggest sound was/is hiphop. Look at the Super Bowl half time show. Generational gap is real. There is a lot of old music that was pasted down to us by our folks but Elvis just missed us I guess
I agree with what you said but Elvis did make sure any songwriter did get paid well if he sang there songs . Now it wasn't his fault if DJs didn't play black artists songs but played elvis songs of the same artist . Segregation was terrible but also part of History
cultural appropriation is the newest catch phrase made up by goofy young kids... you clearly don't know what you are talking about. You act as if you can hide the fact that E was hooked on drugs or died in the bathroom.. everyone knows all the negative... oh and stans is a new word made up word by those same people who made up cultural appropriation... can you honestly believe the term cultural appropriation has never in the history of this earth been used up until prob the last 5-10 years.... and we've been around thousands of years :D ... there is a difference between being influenced .. almost unwittingly influenced ... and suddenly waking up one morning and deciding you want to wear Mexican style dresses for the rest of your life. If you bother to look at what the overwhelming majority of famous black musicians said about him or felt about him... you would find they held him in high esteem as he did them. Stop using those goofy a z z words lol
@@vintagehouliganc8997 I mean, every word in existence is "made up." Oxford, Cambridge, and Merriam-Webster add new words to the dictionary every year, including things like "googling", "dad bod", "otaku" and "adulting," which all stem from Millennial/Gen-Z internet culture. So as much as you would like for these "goffy a z z words" to not matter, spoilers, they do. Society, as it always has, continues to evolve, which includes our understanding of culture, what is and isn't morally and ethically correct, and also our language. This is how it has always been, this is how it will always be. "Civil Rights" was a "made up" catch phrase at one point too. So I (and many others) find your point of view narrow, antiquated, and uneducated. You don't have to like it, and you can choose not to accept it if you wish, but this is very much so the real world you now live in. So you can accept it, or spend your life being upset about it. Either way, it will continue forward. Also, out of curiosity I checked "cultural appropriation" and "stan" and they're both in the Oxford dictionary and the Marriam-Webster dictionary respectively. So unless you want to right an angry email to the people with Doctorates who decide what words are actual words, don't tell people they don't know what they're talking about.
The only thing thats too late is you guys increasing your audience you will nevet grow no talent or charisma between the two of you theres a reason why some reactors have hundred thousands of followers you 2 will never have that
WeLl ACtUaLLy, based on time since the channel was created we’re slightly ahead of average growth for predominantly reaction channels and average 100+ new subs per month, which is average for a channel out size, according to RU-vids published data. So you couldn’t be more wrong, and it’s really unfortunate that you feel the need to spend your time putting other people down on the internet. I hope you manage to find what you’re looking for in life and get better.
