It's something about the European commentators that are far superior to the American ones. I think it's because they take the time to explain what we 'the audience' is seeing. All the moves, leaps, jumps, & skills have names. Most are even named after the gymnast who performed them first. Kudos to the bbc commenting team. Thx for this wonderful upload 💯💪🏿
Imo I'd rather American commentary bc they also explain everything but with the proper names. Europeans call some of the moves differently. But American commentators aren't the coaches of certain gymnast like here and they don't cheer on American gymnast like European commentators do. Imo it's rude to cheer on your country when you are commentating on the entire event with many countries. They are biased which makes them not a great choice.
What? I’m pretty sure all commentators give you the play by play. I’ve watched many competitions and they ALL explain the moves, along with the points system. I literally hear no difference between these commentators and all the rest.
LOVE the commentators Christine Still & Craig Heap. I think there’s a 3rd gentleman and they are MARVELOUS! Great 👍 knowledgeable and genuine. Great gymnastics as well!
@@dinkvjrwhat makes the American ones the “proper names”? that’s bias, I could easily say that the European commentators say the “proper names” but sensible enough to realise that different continents/countries just call them differently, doesn’t mean anyone is wrong

Honestly, the gentlemen are great but Christine is incredibly biased and because she coaches Alice Kinsella, she should not be commentating. It seems like a conflict of interest. The worst was when she laughed at Simone Biles mount onto beam during the team finals. Very unprofessional IMO.
Unbiased? Maybe when it comes to TEAM GB, otherwise so biased. If I had to hear 1 more time how Alice Kinsella had only 20 to 30 minutes notice from Christine Still (sp?) Enough already. BTW, I do like Alice Kinsella and she did a great job!
I can’t wait to see team USA and other teams at the swimming and gymnastics and synchronized swimming at the 2024 summer Olympic Games in Paris France 🇫🇷
Honestly just like American commentators the british ones are biased towards their gymnasts as well, but they just give so much more valuble information about the perfomances of the gymnasts, that i will always prefer the BBC broadcast
Is it just me, or is the bounce on the floor more than what I usually see? Lots of the mistakes were gymnasts landing with a lot of power yet bouncing extremely far with the legs almost flailing
While I enjoy the commentators here, there is one thing they lack that the American ones don’t. Actually it’s a combination of 2 things. First, I appreciate positivity as much as the next person, but please stop being positive about a routine that below average. They need to stop congratulating a gymnast on a “good routine,” when from a judge’s point of view, it was not. There was a vault they were rather positive about, because the gymnast simply put her feet down. But there were bent knees, a piked over landing, feet sloppy, aka lots of deductions. It was not a good vault. That’s how you confuse the viewer when they see a low score, because the commentator said it was a good, maybe even a great routine. The American commentators are often seen as negative because they call out bad routines and explain where the deductions come from. I learned so much about what judges actually expect by listening to many different American commentators. BBC is the absolute best in showing us the WHOLE competition though. In America, you’re lucky to lay eyes on more than 8 gymnasts in a meet, whether it’s National or international. They stick with the front runners and that’s it. We never would’ve given camera time to the young lady from Algeria for example. So thank you BBC for that!
To be honest it might be a cultural thing, I'm from the UK and you can ask someone how they are and they will say fine even though someone they know has died ect, a good routine could be a similar thing not saying its actually good but passable
I agree. If only Christine added in her coaching notes, it would make all the difference. She sees the mistakes. I also understand the cultural differences too though. Either way, if I had to choose, I'd go with BBC every time
The commentators didn’t know what they were talking about. Someone would do a turn on the beam, have a big balance check and they would say, “solid!” I was thinking, what in the world were they looking at. This happened throughout the complete telecast. Hopefully, they will get commentators and sweet as these are, but not sugar coat bobbles that can cost you a medal. Just be honest.
My question is can the gymnasts hear what the commentators are saying as they are doing their routines because it just pisses me off that whenever one of them has a misstep or fall they always are bringing it up as they are about to go on or while they are doing their routine, even if it’s not even in this very meet but in the meet before just to remind them…hey remember the last time you were on the beam you took a fall right there…it’s like they are hoping or jinxing them so that it happens again especially if it’s gymnasts that they aren’t routing for, like with the BBC you know they are rooting for the home team which is understandable but even NBC does it and it’s their own gymnasts they are doing it to…drives me crazy.🤯
Did not think the full coverage leotards would make any difference when performing-otherwise why would a gymnast handicap herself if she cannot move as easily?
Rebecca from Brazil did not have the best vault ever seen in that competition. Ellie Black’s was underscored in my opinion. Shilese is physically not in good shape unfortunately but all of that bouncing during her dismount didn’t make her the best. I absolutely adore Eyrhora’s floor routine. Just hope she adds more difficulty in her routine but I loved it. Wish they would quit it with Rebecca though. I watch her coach taking notes every time Simone is on any of the apparatus. Simone has a lot of tricks up her sleeve and will bring them to the Paris Olympics.
Simone wasn’t even doing any of her harder new moves. This is the closest she’ll let someone get to her. So she has many tricks. Rebecca is great on floor! But on any other apparatus she always seems to fight her way in the correct position. Wobbles everywhere and she looks so messy and uncomfortable🤦🏾♀️. (Not just this competition).
It's something about the American commentators that makes them far superior to the European ones, probably because they aren't biased and cheering for Americans while many countries are in attendance. Plus maybe it's bc American ones are Olympic Gold medalist and can give a gymnast perspective. But I'm American so maybe I'm biased like the Europeans.
All commentators are biased towards their home team/country. These announcers are quite upbeat and celebrate every gymnast, but you can hear how delighted they are when Alice Kinsella competes. Nothing wrong with it; everyone has favourites!
